20100908 Death by Dropped Museum Object

Aeon17x 14:42, 8 September 2010 (BST)

Suggestion type
New item use

Suggestion scope
Museum pieces, survivors inside tall buildings, survivors/zombies outside tall buildings

Suggestion description
When you drop a museum piece in a tall building (hotels/motels, towers, _______ buildings including NTs), there should be a random chance of your dropped museum piece hitting someone on its way down.

Why? Because of gravity. Tall building + falling heavy thing = a potential hazard for anyone standing immediately outside.

The details are as follows:

  • Every time a survivor drops a museum piece from inside a tall building, there is a 20% chance it will hit a target on the top of the stack.
    • Skulls are not included as they are only 6% encumbrance and are unlikely to cause any real damage, unlike the other museum pieces which are 20% encumbrance and would hurt like heck if they drop on you.
  • If the museum piece hits, it will deal 20 damage. This does not earn XP for the survivor who dropped the museum piece.
  • A dropped museum piece can kill a target. This again does not earn XP for the survivor who dropped the museum piece.

While this is not something I imagine anyone would actively use for defense, it gives museums one other purpose other than providing decorative items that are nice to look at, and that is providing decorative items that can (indirectly) kill. Overall it might seem like more of a flavor change than anything, but it's something the physics and arts types would subtly appreciate.

Keep Votes

  1. ONLY IF PIANOS ARE IMPLEMENTED INTO UD -- LEMON #1 15:02, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  2. I was initially planning to shoot it down, but on thinking about it some more, it violates none of the usual reasons for shooting down X-Ray and "shooting from behind barricade" suggestions, and it'll actually end up just being a flavor suggestion, since the mechanics of it most certainly do not work out in survivor favor (you have to search for a museum piece in order to even do this, which is a waste of time). So, yeah, I like it. Could be fun, and would definitely be something to talk about as a zombie (e.g. "I just got hit by a what?"). Aichon 15:11, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  3. Yes. It makes sense. -- SDN 15:27, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  4. Keep - Heavy objects landing on people's heads. What's not to like? --AORDMOPRI ! T 21:44, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  5. Keep/Change - Make it able to kill zombies, else it'll be ridiculously overpowered. Apart from that, as Yon. --VVV RPGMBCWS 23:34, 8 September 2010 (BST)
Re - I didn't change it from what I posted in developing suggestions, it will still kill zombies or for that matter anyone else. --Aeon17x 00:52, 9 September 2010 (BST)
Right, thought there was a n't somewhere in there. --VVV RPGMBCWS 04:06, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  6. Keep - Author vote. --Aeon17x 00:52, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  7. Keep - Good God yes. But only if the kill message is 'Th-th-th-that's all folks' ~ Kempy “YaketyYak” | ◆◆◆ | CAPD | 01:03, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  8. Keep - One of my favourite ever suggestions. Hilarious stuff! --Karloth Vois ¯\(°_o)/¯ 11:37, 10 September 2010 (BST)
  9. Keep - This does seem like something survivors would do if they were desperate, so we should have it here. William Burns 23:00, 10 September 2010 (BST)
  10. Minor Keep I like the idea, but I'm not big on it since it could lead to the hoarding of musueums. Gat 18:02, 11 September 2010 (BST)
keep - why not? this does not unbalance and would be funny --Improperly signed-Yonnua Koponen T G P ^^^ 18:38, 12 September 2010 (BST)
  11. Keep - I look forward to dropping stuffed crocodiles on zombies.--V darkstar 19:23, 16 September 2010 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. I dunno, I just don't like it. Even though I do love Tom and Jerry. Nothing to be done! 14:45, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  2. So, I'm inside a building. My friend's spent a couple of hours outside, and he could die soon. Too bad that I'm overencumbered. I know, I'll drop this museum piece so that I can grab a FAK for him. Wait, what's this? I killed him? Wait, who are you? You're a Bounty Hunter who hunts those responsible for manslaughter? But- But I didn't mean to! You can't! N- No! Noooooooooo!--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature2 22:02, 8 September 2010 (BST)
  3. Kill - You are misunderstanding the meaning behind the Drop button. It doesn't mean you drop it out the window, it means you drop it on the ground where you stand. Also, exnay on the auto-hithey. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 22:29, 8 September 2010 (BST)
Re - If I were in the shoes of the survivor in game, I'm inside a tall building and there are zombies knocking outside... then when I drop a museum piece I'd make it worth it and drop it through the window on the chance that it hits one of them. On the other hand I admit I didn't see it could qualify as an auto-hit, although I reckon not too many people would carry five museum pieces at a time just to offset the 20% chance to hit. --Aeon17x 02:33, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  4. Oh hey a Mob of zeds has assambled outside my safe house, Hmm, Lets drop some art on them. No. TheWritingWriter 01:33, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  5. Kill Pointless for experienced alts of either side, but potentially frustrating for babah zambahs who will have to stand up again for 10AP. -- Spiderzed 17:59, 9 September 2010 (BST)
  6. This is kinda Shooting through Barricades, no? --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:27, 9 September 2010 (BST)
Re - Yeah, it is. But nevermind the vote. Do you like the idea? --Aeon17x 02:00, 10 September 2010 (BST)
    If I'm voting kill, then what do you think? Also, be happy I didn't decide on the Humourous vote. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 19:11, 12 September 2010 (BST)
More discussion on the talk page. --Aeon17x 01:47, 13 September 2010 (BST)
  7. Kill - Its pointless without a report on whether you injured a zombie, and with such a report it's a (admittedly very poor) form of x-ray vision. In either form, it just doesn't seem like it would add much. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 04:46, 17 September 2010 (BST)
  8. Kill Don't you think this is kind of ludicrous...? And besides, will NEVER EVER (EVAAAAR) be implemented? EvaAA44r!!11!, right? There's tons of nice and neat peer reviewed suggestions but they aren't implemented either. This one is not one. So it won't be implemented! --DiSm ~ T 21:07, 19 September 2010 (BST)
  9. Kill Silly, possibly implement around holidays that would make it interesting? (Mel Blanc's Birthday Month?) --Damien falcon 03:28, 20 September 2010 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe Been suggested 8 times now by myself. And spamminated pretty much every time. Couldn't find the most recent one, but here's the 7th edition: User_talk:Mattiator#For_Dupe_suggestion_proof. Mattiator 22:07, 9 September 2010 (BST)
Spam How is this significantly different from shooting out from a barricaded building? Now, instead of having to look for ammunition, you just need to find any object and drop it. Damien falcon 01:49, 15 September 2010 (BST)
Re - I don't know which is more sad: that you clearly misread the suggestion and thought it applies to any object when in fact it only works for museum pieces, or that you are not the first person who thought this could be an effective means of survivor defense. --Aeon17x 07:58, 15 September 2010 (BST)
RE - The sad thing is I'm sure that someone would use it as a legitimate defense, especially new players trying to survive a siege. It is still attacking through barricades, which has been killed numerous times. --Damien falcon 03:20, 20 September 2010 (BST)
  2. Spam - attacking through barricades, and uber-HP hit to zombies -- boxy talkteh rulz 11:13 18 September 2010 (BST)
