#'''Kill''' - don't get me wrong cos I like the idea in general, but I really do think this should be a default survivor ability that comes at extra AP cost per shout rather than a skill you have to earn through experience. Unlike zombies, humans don't have to 'learn' how to communicate, it just comes naturally. Of course, zombies should be able to hear it too, as others have already suggested. {{User:Chief Seagull/Sig}} 11:13, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion description

Preamble:
This suggestion is meant help the survivor cause by including an in-game mechanic which would allow a non-meta gaming method of gaining barricade level information of surrounding buildings. The skill differs from the use of Flare Guns in that very specific information can be delivered via flavor text where as flares can be fired to signify practically anything, or nothing at all. Signaling via flare must also be done from outdoors and so is not a value added option in many scenarios.

Description:
Shout is the survivor equivalent to the Zombie skill Feeding Groan. When a building's barricade level reaches Lightly or below, survivors are able to shout into the streets, beckoning survivors up to 4 blocks in any direction to aid with building defense.

Skill Tree and Cost: Shout is a subset of the Civilian skill Construction and costs 100XP for all survivors.

Flavor:

To those shouting:

  • You have no reason to shout. (There there is no immediate threat to this building.) (Barricades above Lightly Barricaded)
  • You shout in astonishment. (Lightly Barricaded) - 2 block radius
  • You shout loudly into the streets. (Loosely Barricaded) - 3 block radius
  • You shout alarmingly into the streets. (Doors secured or wide open) - 4 block radius

Shouting as heard by others:

  • You heard a loud commotion from inside the building. (If the shout comes from your current location)
  • You heard loud shouting X blocks to the <direction>.

Additional flavor text will be added to signify if the shout is "familiar" (originating from a member of your group)

To keep Shout consistent with the Feeding Groan skill, only humans would be aware of shouting. It is assumed that Zombies either cannot here them or just choose to ignore them.

Keep Votes

  1. Author Vote --~Vsig.png 16:27, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  2. Keep/Change - Although I'm keeping because this would help zombies/DCs. I'd like to see zombies able to hear it, because that makes sense, and it would help zombies know when cades were low.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature3 17:57, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  3. Keep/Change - Make it work below VSB, so starting at QSB instead of LB. Makes more sense, as any building bar Rotter Revives and certain RP's should be at atleast VSB.--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 18:06, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  4. Keeep/Change - if zombies could hear it I'd be for it. I see the difference being that humans lump all zombie noises together as essentially meaningless, so groans are "white noise", whilst zombies will still react to any stimulus. Nothing to be done! 00:13, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  5. Keep - I like it. --Zamins 02:14, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  6. Keep/Change - As Misanthropy, let zombies hear those as well. Noise should draw them. ~m T! 02:49, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Seems like it could be useful. ~~14px‎ AngelKitson 12:12, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
  8. Keep - Could be useful especially if there is no Transmitter. User:BenjoDeath/BenjoDeath

Kill Votes

  1. I don't think there needs to be any more survivor communication than we already have. If we don't count any form of meta-communication, there's already the radio, mobile phones, graffiti, and talking (for a total of four), compared to the zombie's Death Rattle, Feeding Groans, and Flailing Gestures (for a total of three). Not to mention that in order for zombies to communicate, they need to have the skills first, while survivors don't need any skills to communicate. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 18:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Re This suggestion isn't about buffing survivors or giving them an advantage over zombies as much as it is about suggesting something that I strongly believe will present situations in which survivors will get off their kiesters and do something more productive than sit in their safehouses waiting for death or ruin. Sadly, I feel that is the state of things with many survivors now. ~Vsig.png 05:18, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  2. Kill - How often is it that there are people in the streets, apart from newbs, Feeding Drag victims and the odd hiding PKer? It would very, very rarely come up to have an effect at all. Also, denying zambahz to hear a shout makes no sense flavour-wise. -- Spiderzed 19:12, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  3. Kill If I'm in a building with no cades and I have Ap, I would barricade.--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  4. Kill "To keep Shout consistent with the Feeding Groan skill, only humans would be aware of shouting. It is assumed that Zombies either cannot here them or just choose to ignore them." That's not consistent- its straight up an excuse. Survivor can hear feeding groans just fine- if they happen to be outside when the noise is made. If the zombie is inside a building, they can't hear any feeding groans. If you want it to be "consistent", make shout work the same way. Of course, that would make it pretty useless.
So, to be consistent, if survivors can hear shouts from inside buildings, zombies should be able to hear groans from inside buildings. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 22:13, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
ReIt isn't an excuse. I honestly didn't think a survivor could hear feeding groans. Reading further into it, I see that they can. I'll likely rewrite the suggestion because of this. As I said it should be consistant with Feeding Groan. ~Vsig.png 05:18, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Survivor communication is supposed to be easy to produce and spread (though partially reliant on searching), yet not always trustworthy or important. --VVV RPGMBCWS 22:28, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
  6. Kill - As Trips. I might suggest a reworking of Flare mechanics instead to make them more meaningful than they are now. Aichon 05:04, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
  7. 'Kill- Id rather it be screams herd when someone is dragged outside via feeding drag that are herd for 4-5 blocks. Granted something like a mall being busted into would produce alot of spam. Either way my kill stands, survivors have radios, phones, etc. all of which are very effective forms of communication as others have stated.        00:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Barricades do not need a boost and this suggestion is not an equivalent to Feeding Groan at all. If you want something that is then it needs to be based upon break-ins, not barricade levels. So, it should require a minimum of one zombie in the building and grow louder as the horde grows. Plus, zombies should hear it: that adds the risk element of calling for help. --Papa Moloch 08:50, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Unnecessary, thats what Radio Transmitters are for Red Eyes-Dezonus-Red Eyes (talk) 10:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
