Select Which Fifty

Timestamp: 02:08, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
Type: Improvement
Scope: Survivors
Description: Right now a survivor has no way of talking to anyone but the first fifty people in a crowded building. This can be a problem if there is a person or people you specifically want to reach beyond the 50, or if you have information everyone in the building needs to know. Originally survivors could talk to everyone in a building, this was changed to the first fifty system in order to cut down on server load. Here's an idea that would preserve the server and help this problem with communications:

Next to the dialogue box for speech have a drop down button. It'd have these selections: "First Fifty", "Second Fifty", "Third Fifty", etc, going up until however many are needed. You'd be able to speak to different groups of fifty with each selection. If there was a number not divisible by 50, like 239, the last fifty would just contact everyone at the end (in this case "Fifth Fifty" would reach 39 people). It would not increase server load because there's no difference between talking in 5 buildings full of 50 people and talking 5 times in one building to reach 5 groups of 50 people. It'd cost the same AP to talk and be no more difficult for the server to handle.

Votes

  1. Keep Author vote. Not that it's important but it makes sense flavor wise too, your character would be going to different parts of the building to reach the people in each room. --Jon Pyre 02:14, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  2. Keep The dropdown should be something like "First Fifty (NecroBob - ZombieJesus)" "Second Fifty (SomeGuy - RobertDuvall)" etc. so the player doesn't have to count --Mikm 02:20, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  3. Keep- USeful for getting 1 message out to everyone crowded together wiht you Drogmir 02:35, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  4. Kill - I'll change my vote to keep if you can tell me something I'm not getting. If a person talks/attack, then he is changed to the front. So that means that if I talk, I would be throwned to the first 50, and then do not know what the heck you are talking... In fact I think it'll be better if you just change your view from first 50 to second 50 etc. so you could see/heal/shoot/or w/e to each specific person. --No sig --Jon Pyre 05:29, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re It's just pretty unlikely to miss the person your're trying to talk to. You're talking to groups of fifty at once. If they're active currently or even recently just talk to the first fifty. Otherwise it's unlike their position will move in the time it takes to type your message and click. --Jon Pyre 05:31, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  5. Keep --Lord Evans 06:53, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  6. Keep - The ability to 'whisper' to people would be nice; but the AP cost should be significant to keep it from being over used. --MorthBabid 08:00, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  7. Keep - The only "50 person limit" communication suggestion worth keeping to date. --Jack Swithun (Sermons ? Church of the Resurrection) 09:17, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Abstain -the 50 person limit was put into place to prevent the server from overheating. I have no idea what this will do to the server, and therefore I am not qualified to vote on this. but it seems the best suggestion yet to my untrained eyes.--Vista 11:58, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re I think the problem was that if you had 1000 people in a room and all of them said 1 thing a message would be received about 1,000,000 times. The fifty change thing I believe was to prevent 1 AP from reaching an unlimited number of people and cause lag because of that. I doubt the server would have more difficulty selecting the last fifty people instead of the first fifty people, it isn't as if being first on the list makes them any different or easier to contact. I think it'd be ok. --Jon Pyre 14:30, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  8. Keep/Change - It would probably be both easier to code, and cost less AP-wise, to have spraypaint actions added to an 'always report to everybody' as if they were spoken, but still anonymously. I mean, your goal is total communication, eh? - Serpico 13:40, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  9. Kill - This would kill the server, having to group people by fiftys. --Mr NoName 15:51, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re It already does that! --Jon Pyre 15:58, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  10. Keep - Good idea - allows you to speak to everyone, yet save the server by counting each ip hit. --Reverend Loki 17:33, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  11. Keep What Loki said. MaulMachine 17:34, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  12. Keep - As said, but I think the last fifty should really be the last fifty. There's nothing wrong with overlap. --C tiger 19:07, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re True, it would work both ways. --Jon Pyre 19:13, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  13. Keep Great idea. No downside. --User: Robert Floyd23:37, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  14. Keep - Sounds as if you might have come up with a way to solve the 50 problem ("but my friend is #51...") --Blahblahblah 03:39, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Final Tally - 12 Keep, 1 Kill, 0 Spam - 18:43, 24 May 2006 (BST)

Dispose of bodies in the sewers

Spaminated with three votes for corpse dragging and causing random corpse movement. --Mikm 02:28, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Discussion moved to talk page. --Mikm 03:17, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Guard (James suggestion)

Spaminated. 3 spams, one kill. Vastly overpowered. Had some Zerging problems too. --Grim s 03:06, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

This suggestion had zero Spam votes and was improperly removed. --S Kruger

I beg to differ. Now are you done trolling? --Grim s 03:16, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Sorry to chipin but the timestamp says it was up for 30 minutes before being removed and since the skill was restricted to level 15 + it could not be considered a zerging issue unless you don't know that zerging refers to mass's of low level characters being used to overwhelm an opponent, not high level characters using a skill. -- James

The meaning of the term Zerging with relation to Urban Dead has been expanded to encompass all alt abuse. Its easier to type. --Grim s 09:48, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Throw Pistol

This suggestion has been Spaminated. Four Spam votes, seven kill votes, and no keeps. Generally agreed that it is utterly worthless. --Grim s 12:49, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Psychic Rampage v.2 (At least this time it's not overpowered)

Spaminated. 4 spams, one kill, and an Author Keep. --Grim s 12:49, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Secrete acid

Timestamp: 15:06, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
Type: Skill
Scope: Zombie
Description: Why do Zombies eat? We all know zombies don't need food to live, yet they can eventually get the glands to process the food. So, after being able to digest meat, why couldn't they also learn to use this digested meat offensively. Since zombies can already infect people, it's not such a stretch that thay can turn meat into acid. It would work like that:as soon as Secrete acid is bought, one HP is deducted from each digestion recovers but, for every 30 HP absorbed (not 1 HP by bite, the "normal" number of HP per bite), the zombie can spit one load of acid. Acid does 5 damage and infects (if you have infectious bite), has a base 35% hit (only skills that make bite attacks more accurate boosts this one) and, more importantly, has double chance of breaking a layer of barricade as well as a low chance of breaking TWO barricade layers since the acid secreted is can be corrosive, but it's no good if you miss the barricade. The numbers are suggestion and not absolutes. I'm aware it looks like the bile skill, but mine is different since it affects barricades and is related to digestion itself. I guess it could be merged with Bile, though, like making Bile break barricades or something

Note: Zombies cannot "store" multiple loads of acid, after the zombie uses the acid and ONLY after will the bite attacks start counting towards the next acid load. in other words you can only have one acid load at a time, no ammo needed, you simply bite people and then spit acid. until you have spit your acid, the meat you eat is simply dissolved by the acid and odes not build a second load. if zombies could have multiple load, then zombies would melt everywhere because they'd have acid reflu overload or something and explode and no one likes exploding.

Votes

  1. Kill - This is actually better than most "Acid" suggestions I've seen around, but if the acid is so strong, how comes it doesn't burn/melt/disintegrate the mouth of the zombie as it's spit out? Any acid powerful enough to melt through barricade material would be too powerful to be produced by a living (or dead, in this case) being. Besides, the acid produced is mostly spent digesting the meat instead of stocking up to be splashed on other people. So, I'm sorry, but that's a no go. (I can feel people voting Spam... and even a few Dupes for those who care to search for it) --Omega2 15:15, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re: - How is it realistic that dead bodies can rise and walk without needing food? Where does the zombie get the energy to walk? Zombies are unrealistic. And it could be a slow-acting acid of some sort...--gabeMorris 15:37, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  2. Kill You were so close to making a balanced suggestion with the word "acid" in the title, I was almost proud. Don't feel too bad though, it would have been unprecedented. --Zaruthustra 15:32, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • what's so unballanced? I could improve it... maybe... --gabeMorris 15:37, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  3. Keep - A good idea, the zombies could be regenerative enough to hold it in. I like the idea of spraying people with rancid human flesh and acid. --Mr NoName 15:47, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  4. Kill - I don't really get all these acid and bile suggestions, I think zombies need more interesting skills to help them out, there are already some good ideas for new attacks in the peer reviewed. Still, I like this one a bit better than the bile suggestion, slightly more realistic than chomping on corpses and the like. --Blue Wild Angel 16.47, 30 Jan 2006 GMT
  5. Kill Gabe, your idea doesn't contain a thread of logic. If zombies can carry acid this powerful, won't it melt itself? I mean hydrochloric acid normally secreted by glands in the stomach can only cause skin irritation if it goes on someone else's skin, and would be flushed out of the stomach after digesting food to prevent any damage to the stomach lining. Your acid is strong enough to melt through wood and metal barricades, which zombies need little help in breaking, and burn human skin, but can be somehow contained by the zombie itself? AllStarZ 16:55, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re: - Zombies, according to the Zombie Survival Guide, are literally and naturally "embalmed" because of the virus. That means they rot VERY slowly. I don't think it's such a stretch if the zombie can somehow develop glands that use the flesh it eats and transform it in acid, why wouldn't it change the salivary glands to secrete a base that coats the inside of the mouth or something. I mean, I don't understand why you say it's not realistic enough, come on! Where do zombies get the energy to move if they can't digest normally? Zombies aren't scientifically "plausible" yet, they can be explained by pseudo-science. I don't understand how pseudo-scientific beings can't have pseudo-scientific abilities. -GabeMorris 18:06, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
      • And according to the Zombie Survival Guide, it says that the virus doesn't give the victim any other abnormal effects other than reincarnation from the dead. There. Quoting from your unreliable source. AllStarZ 01:34, 2 Feb 2006 (GMT)
  6. Kill - Zombies are unrealistic, but in a zombie genre game, they are believable. Acid is not totaly unbelieveable, but it does strecth the limits. This is also pretty powerful: Most zombies would store up on it for sieges. This stuff hurts more than a handgun, and you "search" by biting people (thus infecting and gaining xp). The two barricades layers thing doesn't look too overpowered to me, but it does really stretch the limits of the possible. It would require a big quantity of acid for that. That said, such a quantity coudn't be stored up in infinite doses that fit in a stomach. --McArrowni 18:01, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
    • Re: - The Zombie can only store one load at a time. I think i should have clearly mentioned it. -GabeMorris 18:06, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  7. Kill - I've seen worse suggestions, but this just doesn't fit well with technical details (the game has to track how much "ammo" you have built up by biting people) or gameplay mechanics (all that biting for a very weak attack). Zombies need new and exciting ways of doing things, not just more powerful attacks. Bentley Foss 18:15, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  8. Keep - You've got an interesting idea; Not very elegant, but I like the core idea, using absorbed health as a counter for an ability. We might see more developed suggestions using this idea later on. --MorthBabid 20:30, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  9. Kill - "The numbers are suggestion and not absolutes." that + the fact in can get through cades that fast bugs me, no cades thing, adn I would vote keep. - --ramby 22:00, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  10. Keep - It needs some balancing on the percentages, but I like the idea. People, you can only have one shot at a time! So no stocking up. --Pinpoint 01:02, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  11. Kill - I'm not a fan of acid or bile attacks. Zombies in movies in most cases dont use them. Also multiply it by a million and barricades wouldnt be a problem for anybody. --Uncle Willy 02:50, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  12. Kill - I'm not a fan of acid, vomit, or bile attacks either. however - this is certainly the best one I've seen on the suggestion page. a little bit of work (certainly shouldn't go through barricades IMHO), and you might be able to get this idea through. --Blahblahblah 03:45, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)
  13. Kill - You're a zombie, not a hydralisk. Rhialto 10:31, 1 Feb 2006 (GMT)

Hiding

You can't hide a can of SPAM from me!! 3 Spams, 4 Kills, 0 Keeps.--RAF Lt.G Deathnut 18:15, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Psychic Rampage

6 spam votes (7 if you count mine), 2 kill votes, and 1 author keep. That's spaminated. Reasons cited include the ideas being even more overpowered versions of skills that had already been killed for being overpowered. Rhialto 14:42, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Note: this thing was spaminated two times, but someone ended up restoring it. --Omega2 14:59, 30 Jan 2006 (GMT)
