::::::I thought about adding the suburb dangerreport to the Location page, but it has aesthetic and functional issues that make me think it'd be clutter to the majority of Bashers, which is why I didn't add it. If we were able to edit individual blocks by clicking on them, then it might be more functional. And if we could specify custom colors (similar to what I did with the MOB Locator and the custom barricade plans we have, except without having to do the c/p work we do there), we could make it work, I think. Hmm...that may be something to look into... 17:24, 30 May 2013 (BST)

Thanks, but the good stuff isn't even here yet. Check back in a few hours. ;) Aichon 23:47, 24 May 2013 (BST)
Ok, now everything is up. Aichon 02:29, 25 May 2013 (BST)

Some very smexy pages you've got here. :P -- †  talk ? f.u. 16:37, 27 May 2013 (BST)

I do my best. And hey, make sure you tell all your friends how nice the wiki pages are! After all, we want to get them into the Bash too. ;) Aichon 20:16, 27 May 2013 (BST)

Unf (and a bit of a question.)

These pages are looking rather sexy, I must say. Cheers on the Big Bash coming back into action. Even if I've had more experience playing as a survivor thus far, I really enjoy it when zombies eating brains do fun stuff as well, like rattle from time to time. Most of the hordes I've been seeing are too much of "srs bsnz", and it'd be great to see a shift in the current ratios, while everyone's having fun.

Why did you choose southern Malton in this case, though? Judging from how a character I just made a little over a month ago has not died, or even gone into peril even after more than 24 hours of standing in the streets, most of the suburbs around northern Malton that I've seen seem like they have a disproportionately lower amount of zeds.

Nonetheless, I'm sure this will be fun for players of all play styles. It's been a while since something of a scale as huge as all of the Big Bashes happened in-game. (Arguably, 2010's Escape, but even that is nothing.)

(Not meant to induce drama, by the way. I'm just genuinely curious as to what spurred this choice.) -- Chirurgien  (talk 07:42, 25 May 2013 (BST)

Southern Malton is merely the starting point, but we'll be hitting areas outside of it in no time at all. As for why the south, part of it's tradition, since the Bash has always started in southern Malton, and part of it came out of coordinating with other hordes and zombie groups to make sure we aren't cutting each other off. In the end though, we'll be going wherever the brains lead us, since that's where we'll find the most people to party with, and we simply MUST get up to the northern half so that we can party with Giddings Mall at some point, since I know that they always look forward to joining us! Aichon 14:17, 25 May 2013 (BST)
Ah, that clears it all up! I'm rather interested in partying along, and I'm definitely looking forward to the start of BB4. Thankfully UD is a game you can play with just a few minutes, as work has been crunching on my "online time". Giddings will probably be a lot more fun than it was during the previous Big Bashes, with those YETIs and whatnot. Thank you for the explanation! -- Chirurgien  (talk 15:40, 25 May 2013 (BST)
Damn Achion, this is the best looking event page on the wiki o.O PB&J 12:31, 28 May 2013 (BST)
Thanks! And that was the goal. ;) Aichon 14:09, 28 May 2013 (BST)
If this event is even slightly succesfull, I demand this page to be nominated for FA. I'm thinking about some ways to properly record the progress of the BB4 for generations to come, too bad C4NT isn't around anymore. PB&J 14:47, 28 May 2013 (BST)
You may want to check out our social pages. Facebook and Twitter pages are linked on the main page. We're also utilizing YouTube and Imugr (I think there may have been talk of Instagram and Pinterest). As far as I am aware, no UD event has ever had such a social footprint. It should be a pretty unique way of documenting the event. ~Vsig.png 17:00, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

DangerMap stuff

Following on Facebook and Twitter :) Anyone making daily screenshots of the Dangercenter and the overall Map? PB&J 19:38, 28 May 2013 (BST)

I know Vapor has been talking about doing something along those lines for the 3-4 months we'll be active. He might be able to provide more details. Aichon 20:14, 28 May 2013 (BST)
Yes, I will be taking daily screenshots. I had not thought to do the Danger Center map but that's a good idea. Its too bad so much of it is out of date. ~Vsig.png 20:50, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
It's not that out of date, most of the updates are under half a year old as far as I came across them (and a good part of those outdated ones don't really need updates, since half the damned city is safe) PB&J 20:59, 28 May 2013 (BST)
Is it possible (Aichon or someone else) to encourage those participating in BB4 to also update the statuses of the buildings they encounter? Might help in de-graying the map. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 22:38, 28 May 2013 (BST)
I can look into pointing people towards it (probably once I update the Location page with an actual starting point), but beyond that, I'd suggest hitting people up on IRC and asking them to update as they go along. That said, we'd probably be just as accurate if we simply opened the danger reports for every building in the suburb we're going to and just marked them as ruined. Of course, marking it as ruined gives survivors a reason to update later on with some new information, so that's a nice benefit. Aichon 23:05, 28 May 2013 (BST)
I've been trying to update as many building status as I encounter; I'll admit I've been a bit lazier with doing that for some places, as my primary priority is giving building status updates for those places marked as "unknown" for a few months up to roughly 2 years. On another note, is the suburb danger map automagically updated based on the EMRPs? --Accipere quam facere praestat injuriam. [ talk ] [ KT ] [ BB4 ] 23:09, 28 May 2013 (BST)
Afraid it isn't. The game and wiki aren't connected. The only way the EMRPs get into the danger system is because Bob and others update them accordingly based on the EMRPs. Aichon 03:37, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Ever since we got the Danger Center running last summer, I've been brooding on a way to make the overall suburb map update according to the status of the buildings. There are one or two ways I think can work, but they take a lot of work and I'm not even sure the wiki would endure such contraptions... PB&J 08:43, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Did you say there's a possibility that suburb danger levels can be updated from individual building data? If so, that would be amazing, but I figure that it might take a lot of work on the backend. For whatever reason, I thought that updating the EMRP resulted in a corresponding update in the suburb danger map. --Accipere quam facere praestat injuriam. [ talk ] [ KT ] [ BB4 ] 10:39, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Basicly, what I have in mind is some kind of calculator, with a ton of "switch" tags behind them, but I'm afraid that'll increase the lag updating danger reports causes. PB&J 10:54, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Considering I've already heard a few different people complain about the lag spikes from updating danger reports (twice this week, in fact, independently of each other and without any prompting), I'm loathe to add anything else that's as complicated as the DangerCenter, and what you're talking about would indeed be more complicated. In fact, if there were some way to update the DangerCenter to make it lighter, I'd do it in a heartbeat, since the wiki lags for everyone whenever someone updates it, and it's super annoying at times when I'm doing a series of edits and need to wait for 30 seconds in the middle of them because someone chose right then to update a building's status. Aichon 15:54, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Whoa, I didn't know that the lag was occurring as well for other people; I was under the impression that my connection just refuses to cooperate with the wiki at times (then again, my "mobile broadband" is already slow, but it is more sluggish when I am updating danger reports in succession.) I'll try to space out my edits a bit more, next time. Is there currently a workaround/fix for this, though (especially that mechanism where apparently 5,000 something templates get a callback whenever even just ONE of them is updated.) --Accipere quam facere praestat injuriam. [ talk ] [ KT ] [ BB4 ] 16:13, 29 May 2013 (BST)
Afraid there's no workaround, unless we outright remove the Danger Center, and it's one of those things where it's super-useful and only a handful of people are really bothered by the drawbacks of it. Aichon 16:28, 29 May 2013 (BST)

Location double-check

Just want someone else to confirm RenegadeRomero's edits that the Bash is starting in Buttonville, before I move my alt to the area. Thanks! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 00:44, 30 May 2013 (BST)

Hi, I'm one of the players organising this, and I can confirm that the Big Bash is indeed starting in Buttonville! Come on down! --BOSCH 01:04, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Aye, Renegade Romero is an organizer. Aichon has done a lot of the wiki work since we went public but the three of us (and perhaps some select others) will be doing official updates. ~Vsig.png 01:26, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Alright, I'll be there! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 02:02, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Awesome! Also, yup, I can confirm he's legit (in fact, he's the one leading it, so anything he says is the Bash's official stance). He's actually been mentioned a few times on these pages, though not in obvious places. For instance, he's listed as one of the leaders on the Contact page, and we worked his name into one of our first pieces of art in the Gallery. Aichon 02:39, 30 May 2013 (BST)
On my way! BARHAH! PB&J 08:17, 30 May 2013 (BST)

Really nice work here guys...

This is some sharp stuff right here. Well done.

See you round buttonville.  :)--  Seekandyeshallfind    * 01:31, 30 May 2013 (BST)

Thanks! We tried to make sure we put some solid effort into the prep work, and we're definitely glad that folks are getting something out of it. We'll be seeing you there! Aichon 02:41, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Nice indeed, maybe link the location at the top of the map (currently Buttonville) to the suburb itself? :) PB&J 09:13, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Good idea. I've made all of the references to our current suburb a link now, including the one at the top of the map. Aichon 14:22, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Thanks, really helps me out since I've never really traveled in the south :) Maybe we can implement the Dangermap from the suburb as well? (it'd encourage people to update the statuses and we'd see the whole suburb slowly turn red ^^ ) PB&J 15:08, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Slowly? Wink ~Vsig.png 16:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
I thought about adding the suburb dangerreport to the Location page, but it has aesthetic and functional issues that make me think it'd be clutter to the majority of Bashers, which is why I didn't add it. Aichon 17:24, 30 May 2013 (BST)

It has begun

The first building has fallen victim to the Big Bash 4, and if I'm not mistaken it's Ranson Boulevard Police Department with at least 10 zombies gathering around :)

The first Danger Center screenshot:

May 30, 2013 - 16:29h

Can we get a gallery or something for these? Pretty please Mr. Vapor and Mr. Aichon and Mr. bisfan and Mr. Bosch? PB&J 15:33, 30 May 2013 (BST)

Barhah! A gallery may not be a bad idea. I took screenshots of all three maps (Danger Center, Suburb and BB4 Map) yesterday right after the announcement and just saved them to my HDD. I have a project in mind for the screenshots after the Bash is over. I'm not opposed to keepinga separate gallery here on the wiki, though. ~Vsig.png 16:28, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
I've added a new section to the Gallery for posting Danger Center and Danger Map secreenshots. Baraga, feel free to update the Danger Center section on a daily basis. I made the code simpler to add new screenshots, and you have the wiki-fu anyway. Aichon 17:03, 30 May 2013 (BST)
Could we get those images kept on a separate page in someone's userspace for now, please? Great idea, Baraga, the kind of thing I love to see people propose and that the initiative on, and could be very interesting to see how we've progressed, but not something I want to make 'official'. --BOSCH 17:16, 30 May 2013 (BST)
