Encumberance

In my experience, not all museum items have the same encumbrance value. I just picked up a skull and it only raised my encumbrance 6%. Does anyone happen to have a list? --Artuur 10:36, 4 June 2007 (BST)

Installing decorative items

I haven't been able to install the decorative items from museums, only to carry them and drop them. How do you do? --Uncas 01:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

That's what I tried but nothing happened. I don't remeber what it said, but it was something negative. I'll try it again and come back. --Uncas 16:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Now I've tried again. I've picked up a piece of African art at the Bratte Museum in Pegton [83,53] and when I click on it in my inventory (I have the UDToolbar) I get the message "You can't see any use for that here." and I loose 1 AP. I still have it in my inventory (no picture, no description). I tried it in Cowing Way Police Dept. [85,52] which already has three pieces of artwork. Now I've figured it out! It's the UDToolbars fault. When I uninstall it, I only press the decorative item and it installs itself, it's simply not possible with the Toolbar. --Uncas 00:11, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
You gotta go to "Toolbar Preferences", and "deactivate extension". Then "refresh". You place your decorative item. Then you reactiveate it and you can play further. Since the UDtoolbar has been made by a lone guy on HIS time, you can't blame it. He could have had so many sex stuff using that time. --GoLookAndKill THCCFT 19:15, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Different Museums hold different items?

In the Batson Museum in Stanbury Village, I can only find tapestries. Is it possible that the museums in Malton are assigned a specific type of item? (Tapestries, sculptures, etc.) --Antipathy 07:46, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that's true. In the Nuttall Museum (Pimbank) only stuffed animals can be found. Note the description of this museum: You are inside the Nuttall Museum, its extensive collection of stuffed animals now thick with dust.--Duke Garland 12:48, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

The obvious place for such info is on the location page for that museum - I always shceck those for nearby museums when seeking specific items. Sadly, even most of the ones that ARE written up (and many are not, or are in assorted formats) neglect to include this sole bit of game-relevant information, or bury it under mounds of flavor text. I've begun visiting many museums (searching for gothic club decorations) and am updating the descriptions of all those I visit.
An alternate / additional method to deal with this would be via the location block template for museums, by inserting a variable in it that reflects what the museum displays. This would still require manual updating, but would perhaps make the info more widely available. --S.WiersctdpNTmapx:oo 20:25, 15 April 2007 (BST)
The other thing to bear in mind is that museum items are probably sorted in a different way to how they are in this article - I don't think that there're only a couple of statues, for example, is the glass vase a glass item, a vase or both, and where does that mirror fit in? - by sorting museums into these types, we could work out which was which in which. I think that we should alter the museum template after raising it in the suitable place to see if there are any objections, raising the reasons and benefits.--xensyriaT 15:17, 18 April 2007 (BST)
The Quartly Study Group has a team of five archaelogists currently cataloguing every museum in Malton, both by type and by the items that can be found. See our talk page here. I'd like to modify the Decorative Items page to indicate in which museum type each item can be found. It might also be good to start pages for each museum type; such as Conceptual Art Museum in which one could find the description of such a museum, what items are findable, and the name of each such museum. No, i'm pretty sure the number of museum types would be small and separate pages aren't reasonable. however more intel of connection between museum description and what is found there to catagolize better this page would be excellent. i was going to do this myself, but am mostly occupied with actions inside my group. Ok, my own opinion is that the museum types, if they don't get an individual page (and I'm not too fussed either way on that issue) should get sub sections on a Museum Types page (if only Museum had its own page rather than a section in locations) as this collection of Museum type articles would need at least a category and maybe an article to link them anyway. The information such as 'examples of...' should be put there and the things that you mention (a list of museums of that type, decorations found, search probabilities etc.) should also be put there as well, and the examples removed from this page, as they aren't about the items really! A better informed decision can be made once it has been discovered what the types of museum are, and then (if the items are exclusive to one type) decorations can be sorted into the museum type, and links given to the relevant subsection for details under "locations" for the decoration type. Please can you also tell me where you discuss the museum search things - as I'm interested, although I can't really help right now (except list the description of museums that I pass through). Destroying decorative items

The decorative items don't appear in the list of possible targets to attack - does this mean survivors can't destroy them? Looks like we're going to be seeing buildings (especially those that stay in survivor hands a long time) full of junk. Can zeds destroy the decorative items? I happen to have been involved in the (ongoing) decimation of Nichols Mall. Although a few days ago I saw the ransack option next to smash, today there were loads of decorations present, and no ransack button; just "Smash decorations" which caused me to destroy them one by one. I ran out of AP, but I assume the ransack button came back after all the decor was gone. So it looks like decorations now serve a practical purpose: the more decorations, the more AP it takes a zombie to actually ransack the room. my zombie still had the option to ransack even with an earthenware vase present, so i dont think they act as "anti ransack items". can anyone else conferm this?.Blood Panther 05:19, 31 March 2007 (BST)

Limits on total decorations

I was in a building (an NT, specifically) with the following description:

A portable generator has been set up here. It is out of fuel, and connected to a powered-down radio transmitter. The building has been decorated with 11 conceptual paintings, a human skeleton and a cracked sculpture.

and when I tried to place a stuffed lion head I got the message

There's enough decoration here already, the stuffed lion head would be lost among the other objects.

Has anyone else found a limit to the number of decorations a building will hold? Does it depend on the type of building? Does the number of different types or sub-types of decorative items in the building matter? By types I mean things like paintings and statues; by sub-types I mean conceptual paintings versus abstract paintings etc. - Crisco Inferno 02:23, 30 March 2007 (BST)

Ahh, gawd. In a school with four impressionist sculptures and a host of other art pieces, I was unable to add another impressionist sculpture, but was able to add a torn painting. I had assumed that there was a per-art-type limit in force, but your experience seems to disprove that theory. --Kenny Matthews W! 02:20, 3 April 2007 (BST)


Greek Tapestry
