should we open up voting on which awards to use?
How many categories should we cap at? 5? 10?
and when voting we should have them provide a link? or can that be added in later?

Your panel should probably pick which awards to use, rather than having a public vote. I don't see why there should only be 5 awards, just do as many as you can think of.
