Description

You are standing outside the Butterell Arms, a four-storey red-brick pub which has partially collapsed.

History

The original Butterel Arms was built in the early years of the 20th century as a 'social club' for the off duty Firemen of the neighouring Rut Square and Attrell Road Fire Stations.

During a bombing raid in World War II the social club was destroyed with no loss of lives. In 1956 it was bought by a property developer, and rebuilt as a pub.
