Description
You are standing outside the Edson Building, a fire-damaged concrete building flanked by trees.
Located in the North-West corner of Lukinswood, the Edson Building is the direct gateway to three other suburbs: East Becktown to the North, West Becktown to the North-West and Molebank to the West.
The building has been redesigned to accommodate living quarters for a few survivors after the Malton Incident. Freerunning allows a limited amount of safe access (barring any ruined buildings) to the three neighbouring suburbs.
The premises have proven to be a valuable safehouse, seeing as it's a designated Extremely Heavy Barricaded building, surrounded by several resource buildings: weaponry and ammo can be found in the Jensen Boulevard Police Department, fire axes and radios in the Montgomery Avenue Fire Station and generators and fuel in the Cross Auto Repair Shop. The nearest NecroTech Building is the Barstow Building, only two blocks away.
History
Pre-Malton Incident
The site was home to a park up until the early 20th century, when it became a parking space for the Cross Auto Repair Shop in East Becktown. Somewhere in the first half of the 1930s, the lot was sold to a real estate broker, just before the auto repair shop was sold to Abe Goldstein. Plans were made to build a contemporary, but affordable building, but they were delayed by the Second World War.
In 1946, construction started and in 1948, the four story Edson Building was open to its first inhabitant. A local newspaper was on the scene that day:

Mr. Forran, employee of Malton's very own City Council has officially opened the Edson Building, which has been in the works since 1946, during his visit to Western Lukinswood last thursday. A small crowd had gathered, and the atmosphere was vibrant, with people looking for an occasion to celebrate, as the cheers of the victories on the Continent haven't died down even slightly. Among those present, we recognize Mr. Goldstein, of the wellknown automobile repair shop, and his son. Neither of them was very talkative, in stark contrast to Mr. Boreman, Chief Constable of the Jensen Bvd Police Department, who was more than willing to share his opinion with our reporter. "It's good to see people smiling again", he said just before the opening,"we've spent enough time muttering about the shadows cast by the effects of war."
The next 50 years saw little change in the Western part of Lukinswood, apart from some decay as the lack of innovation began to show.
In 1968, a new shadow was cast over the Edson building, albeit only during the evening hours: the Gibbins Towers in West Becktown were finished, and the 12 story high buildings rose high above the area.
Mr. Matt L. Foreman, an elderly man who rented appartment number 12, located on the second floor of the Edson Building in the Seventies, described the neigborhood as follows in a letter to his niece, Ms. Joanne Perry, of Richmond Hills:
"It's a quiet living, here in Edson's except for, and Ms. Hathaway of the third floor agrees with me on this point and fully supports my saying so, those longhaired kids hanging around Goldstein's shop. He recently even called the police to get rid of them, but the officers of Jensen told him they can't do anything, since they're supposedly "not doing any harm". A nuissance, and we wouldn't have any of that in our time!"
At the time of the outbreak, the building was occupied by no less than 30 people, among which were 10 women and 5 children. As Lukinswood is quite close to the western border of the city, it is believed that most of the inhabitants escaped. It is, however, quite certain that Patrick Foreman, the son of the above mentioned Mr. Matt L. Foreman, was within the city limits when the quarantine came into effect.
Post Malton Incident
After the outbreak, the Edson Building was abandoned and quickly fell to the undead hordes. All records of the time between 2005 and 2008 are now lost, but it seems that by the end of that year, the building had been partially restored and was inhabited from time to time. After the DHPD was formed, the Edson Building fell just beyond the Dunell hills Military Zone. As a consequence, it was frequently visited survivors retreating from the carnage whenever zombie hordes had the upper hand. After 2008, The Dead had claimed Dunell Hills as their permanent home, which caused an increase in people visiting the Edson Building. By 2012, MPD patrols reported the area to have calmed down, and while occasional intrusions were noted, it's been a mostly safe neighborhood ever since.
Timeline
- December 19, 2009 - Became the Home of one Lt. Potter.
- December 30, 2009 -- LT Potter is throwing an end of the year party. All DHPD are invited! (the success of this party is unknown, no credible sources have been found on the matter -- Johnny Twotoes 14:06, 14 July 2012 (BST) )
- Jan 20, 2010 - Lt Potter moved out to find a safer home.
- July 20, 2012 - The MPD reports some heightened zed activity after stragglers from both side made contact in nearby Molebank.
- July 14, 2012 - MPD patrolls report the building to be safe, but abandoned.
- September 21, 2012 - The building is reported clear of any danger by MPD officers.
- March 2, 2013 - An MFD official declares the building to be safe.
- September, 2013 - Big Bash 4 passes and leaves the entire building in ruins.
- November 13, 2013 - The Edson is declared safe again, although it remains unpowered.
- December, 2015 - After a long period of no news, the MDU reports that it is a safe location.
