History

The Giffard Arms Public House is a formerly abandoned pub on the western fringe of Richmond Hills where the suburb meets neighboring East Becktown.

It has been acquired by retired zombie hunter Matson Jade, who is the current owner and Licensee, having settled in Malton after recovering use of his legs. Jade's business partner, retired MFD Engineer Stefin "Griff" Grifflik also works toward the upkeep and maintenance of the pub. The other stakeholders in the pub are TexWiller, latter-day cowboy and zombie hunter (missing presumed undead); self-confessed "nerdy-looking goth girl" doctor and scientist Summermae; and newcomer Maul Rat, who may or may not be a railway porter. Idril and Paul Tagg are also on the payroll, tending bar, and BriAnna Blackmore has carved out a niche in the kitchen.

The Giffard Arms is the first of two pubs in Richmond Hills to be restored and re-opened by the business partners, the second being The Splain Arms in the South-central section of the suburb. These pubs are known as rendezvous points for the DEM.

Constructed in the 1920's, this "period house" is a remarkably accurate reproduction of a tudor-style stone building. Carved heraldic shields in the central panels between the windows bear three white lions on a red field. The lion motif is repeated on the carved wooden sign hanging in front of the pub. The bar occupies the first floor, with an assembly room above it. The third floor offers a small gallery (usually displaying several works of art) and a selection of private rooms available to guests.

A large bulletin board has been placed on a wall near the first floor bar for use by the pub's patrons. A jukebox filled with an eclectic collection of music selections is available in the pub area, as is a pool table and dart board.

Serving decent pub fare and a variety of beers and wines (specific types depending upon availability), the Giffard Arms offers a secure haven for the discriminating survivor. It is noted, in particular, for its vast cellar, possibly the largest in Malton, and enjoys a priceless collection of vintage wines and malt whiskeys.

Barricade Policy

In keeping with the Richmond Hills Barricade Plan, the management requests that patrons assist in maintaining the barricades at Extremely Heavily Barricaded (EHB) at all times. Entry to the Public House is available via free-running from the Giffard's North and South "porches", conveniently located within the adjacent North and South junkyards, both of which are typically maintained at Very Strongly Barricaded (VSB+2).
