Description

Brewpub.jpg Bar Tour Stop
This location is an official stop on the Scenic Malton Bar Tour.

A German bier stube, fallen into decay since the Malton Incident.

History

Founded in 1908 by Karl Lägers, a German immigrant, this bar is one of the oldest foreign bars in town and it quickly became succesfull in early 20th century.

Unfortunately for Herr Lägers, he had to abandon Malton for his homeland in 1914, after World War I broke out. The bier stube was then taken over by the brothers Stefenson, from Swedish descent. Despite their own heritage, they decided to keep the German-themed decoration and stock, moved by their adoration of the German beer culture.

They succeeded in keeping the bar open during two world war, a respectable feat, considering the theme of their entreprise, and left the bar to their respective sons. The cousins Stefenson held the bar open and kept expanding the amount of German beers offered, up to the Malton Incident. Lucky for them, they were visiting their family in Sweden when the quarantine was instated and since they didn't have any personell, the bar remained untouched for quite a while during the first months of the zombie outbreak.

Now, the bar is left in shambles, although a rare bottle of German stout can still be found here and there...
