Description

The Owsley Museum is a Stuffed Animal Museum located at [97,88] in Fryerbank.

Inside this museum you can SEARCH and find, Stuffed Alligator, Bear, Crocodile, Eagle, Fish, Lion, Monkey, Moose, Tiger.

The museum is a red-brick 2 story building with more than a few dozen 15ft tall bronzed animal statues around the front. The main entry has a vaulted ceiling that passes through the entire center of the museum, blocking off bother upper floor sides from one another. The upper areas are packed floor to ceiling with stuffed Lion, Crocodile, and Fish. Even with all the looting after the outbreak, the collection is still largely intact. Because of the strange nature of the Animals on the main floor people have seemed to leave them alone. Maybe because seeing an animal do something human-like makes them feel good about humanity. That or Alligator family having a backyard BBQ, with daddy gator at the grill with a beer in his hand, wife gator carrying a tray of iced lemonade, kid gators sitting at the picnic table waiting for hamburgers and hotdogs to be ready, is amusing to look at. Whenever a zombie works it's way to this museum, they too stare blankly at the animals here. As if wondering to themselves, WHY? But if you knew the history to this museum... Then you would know why...  :)

History

Where do we begin on the madness that is the Owsley Museum? I suppose the story should start with Mr. Theodore Owsley himself. A fat little bugger at 11 lbs 9 oz, in 1919, he was born as Theodore Whittenside Owsley III. Ted was a strange boy to say the least. He grew up into a very odd young man with a very strange passion. To preserve the memory of all the things he once loved. It all started when he was 12 years old and his pet canary, Tango, died. He dissected, preserved, stuffed, then displayed his beloved bird. People complimented and said the bird while dead, looked as if it had more life. That got Ted obsessed with taxidermy. He started preserving small animals and placing them in human-like scenarios for fun. One of his first works was that of about 20 kittens all dressed up as if attending a wedding with a bride and groom kitten, and yes even an ordained minister kitten. His next work was two squirrels playing cards, while smoking and drinking. Later works went on to include, Guinea Pigs playing brass instruments, the Owl Gravedigger, Kitten Family at Tea, Rabbits in School (with 2 rabbits cheating on a test too), and Squirrel House Party.

Around his mid-40's, Theo (as he liked to be called then) was into big game hunting. He would frequent trips to Africa to hunt large animals. Lions were his favorite land animal with Crocodiles being his favorite water one. Unless of course Theo was deep sea fishing. That is why if you search the Owsley museum today, you will more than likely walk away with one of Ole Theo's prized Stuffed Lion, Croc, or Fish. Among other animals in his collection are Stuffed Alligator, Bear, Eagle, Monkey, Moose, and Tiger. But not in quantities as plentiful as the previous few. Croc's at Cards is quite amusing. There is also a display of the inside of a submarine, but it is all being run by 400+lb tuna fish. All in uniforms, with the largest tuna with admiral stripes ordering around the other smaller tuna making them load torpedo tubes and such. Then there are the lions which are all at home. The house is well kept because they are in a "PRIDE". There is a lioness folding laundry, another lioness in the kitchen in an apron making browines, with the largest lion sitting on the toilet and reading a newspaper. There are the two younger cubs fighting over the remote in the living room. Then there is also the older lions in the backyard playing shuffleboard wearing sun visors.

When Theo died he had no wife nor children. He left his entire estate to charity. They auctioned away most of his work but kept the major pieces for display at the museum which was later named after him. During the beginning of the outbreak, 3 museum employees were working that dreadful day. Unaware of the outbreak, one worker was bitten by a zombie and he escaped an ran inside. He told the others what happened and they barricaded themselves inside the museum from the growing horde outside. Little did they know the curator was passed out in his basement office from doing paperwork from the night before. The curator wakes to a familiar person's scream and a large crash... He quickly grabs his revolver from his desk drawer and heads up the step to the main floor. He pushes against the door... Nothing. He pushes harder and it starts opening. Someone's blocked all the doors he notices. "Strange" he thinks to himself... Another loud crash from the lobby. He starts running to the front doors. After making his way through all the displays of Lions and Crocodiles performing various human activities he recognizes his 3 uniformed colleagues standing facing an Extremely Heavily Barricaded door. "Boy am I glad to see you", the curator said exhaustedly. The 3 turn around to face him at the same time. All have glassed over eyes, blood covering their clothes, and instantly start lurching in his direction. "ummm, guys?", squeaks the curator. The worker who was first bit outside lets out a loud feeding groan! "Crap", grunts the curator. The zombies are closing in on him so he starts walking backwards slowly and shooting at the 3 zeds. POW, first zed shot to the chest, POW, second zed shot to the shoulder, POW, shot to the chest again, POW, POW, leg shot and knee shot the third zed. It falls forward quickly and is now just a few feet from the curator. "One bullet left" thinks the curator. He turns to run, immediately ankle grabbed by the crawling zombie... The curator is now flat on his face holding his revolver. He quickly rolls over but cant break the ankle grab. He looks up and sees hes under a Large Panther that has been dyed pink. It is watching a black and white TV episode of a panther of it's likeness. "All my life has led to this?" he says, then he puts the gun to his head and pulls the trigger. As he does, the other 2 zombies fall upon him and start eating him.

      • For images of the crazy taxidermy stated above, search "Walter Potter"/ The above story is fictional but the taxidermy was from a collection I once saw long ago***
      • I also would like to thank the original mystery person for putting some history. I enjoyed building upon your story about the panther and the people inside.***

-Original Entry- When the infection began, four employees were in the Museum. Upon the first documented entering since the infection, Three zombies were found and killed. The last employees body was found next to a large panther, bullet in the skull. Seemed like a suicide, which sometimes is better.
