Basic Info:

  • A monument is a city block containing a statue or similar piece of public art, without a building in it. It is functionally equivalent to a street, except that players with the Tagging skill can gain 2 XP for writing graffiti on a monument.
  • This is, game-play wise, an empty block, and cannot be barricaded.
  • After the July 3, 2009 update, some monuments became tall and can be seen from a distance with binoculars

Description

Humans and zombies alike will see the following (permanent) description when standing in front of the monument:

"You are at the Passant Monument, a metal obelisk engraved with memorial dates."

The Passant Monument is one of the more recent pieces of public art to be commissioned in Malton. In fact it was unveiled by the local council just days before the outbreak. In keeping with publicly funded art everywhere it was ill conceived, came in way over budget and left the local residents fuming about the misappropriation of their council tax. So much so that the inhabitants of Tapton have been know to walk diagonally between blocks because otherwise they just couldn't take it.

The monument itself is constructed from recycled tyres moulded into the figure of a queen. The artist responsible claims it is a demonstration of the metamorphosis and power of a journey's end, when against the odds the ordinary man rises to crush the oppressor.

Most Taptonians suspect this to be just more of the same pretentious crap as Stacey Ermine's "Gnome clothed in all the tents I have ever slept in" and Domino Cyst's "Formaldehyde in Shark". The Council has defended the structure claiming "Look at Picasso, people thought his work was a bit shit too when he first started".

Rumours that the monument is to be renamed following a sponsorship deal between Tapton Borough Council and VW are denied by the Council. However as one source put it "If they want to bung us a wedge of cash to drop the 'n' from Passant, well, we wouldn't say no".
