Description

The Standfast Arms is a historical British pub and listed building in the NW of Danversbank. The pub was originally constructed during the early Victorian era and provided the working-class community with a central focus. Danversbank legend tells of extensive cellars beneath the Standfast that connect to the catacombs below the cemetery, the two churches and the three hospitals in the suburb. During the 19th century these tunnels were allegedly used by body-snatchers to transport corpses and by smugglers evading Customs men.

During the 20th century the suburb was heavily developed and remodelled as a residential area. By late 2002 the Standfast Arms and surrounding area was scheduled to be cleared to make way for luxury accommodation. An organized campaign led by pub regulars (including bikers, firefighters, doctors and the local priest) resulted in a public outcry and ultimately led to the Standfast Arms being declared a listed building. The Standfast and surrounding buildings were saved from the bulldozers and the developers shifted their focus to NE Danversbank.

The Standfast Arms was a popular destination for public service workers from the nearby fire stations and hospitals as it served good food and hosted live music (usually heavy rock) during the evenings. At the time of the zombie outbreak the pub was hosting a private party (and subsequent lock-in) for newly-promoted firefighters and a group of nurses. Consequently the pub was exceptionally well defended during the initial outbreak and sustained minimal damage. Careful and loving maintenance has kept the Standfast Arms in excellent condition.

History

The Standfast Arms is the spiritual home of the Danversbank Relief and Reconstruction Project. Members of the DRRP are often found in the pub, searching for additional alcohol supplies to help fuel their nightly zombie hunts. The DRRP consider alcohol to be a critical resource and treat the Standfast Arms accordingly.

Barricade Policy

According to the Provisional Danversbank Barricade Plan, this building should be kept at Extremely Heavily Barricaded (EHB) at all times. It is maintained by the DRRP in accordance with the Provisional Danversbank Barricade Plan in order to provide a hardened safe house for survivors with the Free Running ability. The nearest VSB entry points are Twill Alley School (2E), Athay Crescent Fire Station (1N) and Servatius General Hospital (1NE 1N).

The door policy for the Standfast Arms forbids entry to the undead. The DRRP discourage violence in the Standfast as precious bottles of alcohol can break easily. Anyone foolish enough to interrupt a drinking session by destroying the portable generator (for example) will be mercilessly persecuted. Those with a need to get physical are encouraged to take it elsewhere.

Current Status

The Lesbian Pirates have just finished their presentation of Hamlet and normal service of bad jokes, paint-stripping homebrew and poor gun control should resume shortly. Currently EHB and unpowered. -- R33F3RM4N 14:57, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
