Description

Townsend Bank is a small branch bank located in the suburb of Dulston. The bank was built in 1969 as part of a initiative by the Malton Bank Financial Group (MBFG) to provided client banking services in Dulston. The small branch was staffed by 11 bank personnel and rarely witnessed large sums deposited or withdrawn during the years that followed. This was in no small part due to the fact that most major businesses in the suburb already had accounts opened with the more well-established Oatley Bank and while the MBFG attempted several advertising campaigns aimed at luring in these businesses they were for the most part unsuccessful.

In 1985 the bank earned some degree of notoriety when it appeared in local Channel 4 News coverage after 3 bank robbers armed with shotguns killed the bank's security guard and stole over $1.1 million from the vault. The robbery was later solved in 1987 when convicted criminal, Chase Manuel, was arrested while attempting to rob Harnap Bank in South Blythville. During the investigation officers found evidence at Chase's apartment that connected him to the Townsend Bank robbery. When confronted with this evidence Chase made a plea-bargain, providing the names of the other two bank robbers and a statement as to who was the trigger-man involved in the bank guard's murder (as Chase adamantly insisted he was not the one). This led to arrest warrants being issued for Mark Hoswell, the alleged murderer, and Samuel Baker. In the end Hoswell was found, arrested, and convicted for his crimes, but to this day Baker was never caught. Investigators believe he may have departed from the United States soon after the crime was committed and has not returned since. At least not as Samuel Baker.

Historically it's believed the MBFG named Townsend Bank after Washington Townsend (1813–1894), a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. His perhaps tentative connection to the bank's name comes from his long history within the banking community. Initially employed as a bank teller from 1828 to 1844 and a cashier for the Bank of Chester County from 1849 to 1857 these jobs would serve as a means to an end as Townsend worked towards public recognition. During this period Townsend was elected as a Republican to the 41st and the three succeeding Congresses. Later he served as chairman of the United States House Committee on Public Lands during the 43rd Congress. After departing Congress he once again resumed working in the banking industry by serving as president of the Bank of Chester County from 1879 to 1894 (the year he died).

Barricade Policy

Barricades should be kept at Extremely Heavily at all times. The true purpose of this building is to serve as a heavily fortified shelter for Malton's veteran survivors. This ruling was set forth by the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram and is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance.
