UDWiki:Administration/Policy Discussion/English Administration

From The Urban Dead Wiki

"Official Language" article on Wikipedia:
Typically a nation's official language will be the one used in that nation's courts, parliament and administration.

Simple proposal: English (American/British dialects notwithstanding) is the only language to be used on UDWiki:Administration and its subpages. (e.g. A/D/S, where the inspiration for this policy came from.)

Non-English votes (e.g. some of the current ones on A/D/S) are to be struck and remain uncounted in tallies until rectified.

This policy has absolutely no bearing outside of UDWiki:Administration and its subpages, save for official sysop actions, such as deletion log comments and warnings - these must also be in English.

Voting Section

Voting Rules
Votes must be numbered, signed, and timestamped. They can take one of two forms:
  • # comments ~~~~
    or
  • # ~~~~

Votes that do not conform to the above will be struck by a sysop.

The only valid voting sections are For and Against. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

For

  1. For - --Michalesonbadge.pngTCAPD(╯°□°)╯ ┻━┻ 20:50, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  2. For - Yes, please. --sannok(talk)(kilts) 20:54, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  3. For I like how so many people below stated how important a bolded word should be, and yet, how many of them don't have one. Not to mention that we're not barring english, just making it standard in the voting process.... if I understand correctly. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 05:01, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Bolded words aren't necessary on this page if you check the rules to the right, and considering it says that non-English votes will be struck, I'd say it's barring non-English, effectively. Aichon 05:09, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually it doesn't say that. It says the only valid 'sections' are For and Against, which says nothing of their content. I am not enjoined by the voting rule to even say For or Against, but just to put my numbered signed timestamp in the appropriate section if I so wish to vote. English isn't even required. -Wulfenbach 22:31, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
He was talking about the policy, as was I, rather than the content that is currently allowed. I switched from talking about the rules to the right to the policy part of the way through my comment, since I was responding to two different aspects of his comment. Sorry for the confusion. I agree with what you said, but was talking about something else entirely. Aichon 01:07, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
One would think you were clever enough to realise we were demonstrating a point. -- 09:19, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
  4. For - I'll go down on this sinking ship. If the klingons want to vote and author policy in their own language, let them make their own urban dead wiki. naDevvo' peghoS!--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 02:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
This. What I don't understand is why, unless trying to make a point purely because they can, one would chose to say something that will not be understood by a portion of the relevant audience because it is in a language that clearly isn't as universal as the more common one. Also, I am a narrow-minded bigoted American (who is capable of understanding at least two other languages).--sannok(talk)(kilts) 09:23, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Against

  1. Tegen Against! Man, leave it as it was, there is no harm done, and wherever it is done, A/VB can handle it. Also until this passes, zal ik nog graag mij uitte in mijn moedertaal zolang het nog kan. Jullie zeurpieten kunnen me wat, en die Doos al helemaal. Oh ja, Eerste.--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 20:31, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  2. Against - Only the bolded vote should conform to a standard. The language of anything else after the vote should be fair game for anything. Nothing to be done! 21:00, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  3. Against, and as Misanthropy. - User:Whitehouse 21:05, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  4. Against - I support the idea, just not as presented. As others said during discussion, this may work better as a guideline, rather than as a policy. Also, the wording is hazy on whether just votes or all commentary must be in English. Do votes that are in English with non-English commentary get struck? Aichon 21:09, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
  5. Do you see that box to the right, that dictates what is and what is not a valid vote, not this idiotic policy. I could have put this entire entry in Klingon and there's nothing that makes it an invalid vote. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem!
