This page is for users to request System Operator status. The act of user promotion is restricted to those with bureaucrat status, and as such users will need to request user promotion here. System Operators and Bureaucrats cannot assign promotions unless the request has gone through this page.

Guidelines for System Operator Requests

Users who wish to request System Operator status (and users who wish to nominate other users for System Operator status) should note that before they can be considered the following guidelines should be met by the candidate:

  • Significant time within the community.
We define this as at least 6 months since the candidate's first edit.
Note: looking in a User's User contributions might give false results for this criterion, as the edit history is periodically purged on this wiki.
  • Significant activity within the community.
We define this as at least 250 edits in the past six months under the candidate's name.
Note: looking in a User's User contributions might give false results for this criterion, as the edit history is periodically purged on this wiki.
  • Prior interest in maintaining the community.
We define this as clear evidence that the candidate is already performing maintenance tasks and taking leadership roles on the wiki.
  • Desire to become a System Operator.
We define this simply as indicating in the candidate's request their desire for the position (Note that if a person is nominated by another user, the candidate in question should note their acceptance of the nomination).

If a user is highly exemplary in one criterion, a certain amount of leeway may be given with the other criteria.

Once the candidate satisfies these guidelines, the user is then subject to a community discussion. All users are asked to comment on the candidate in question, ask questions of the candidate, and discuss the candidate's suitability for becoming a System Operator. This is not a vote. It is instead merely a request for comments from the wiki community. This will continue for two weeks to allow all users an opportunity to voice their opinion regarding a candidate's qualifications for promotion. After two weeks, the Bureaucrats are responsible for announcing their decision within a reasonably short period of time. Users may continue to add their thoughts until the Bureaucrats announce their decision. The current amount of System Operators running should not influence your decisions when voicing your opinion.

Once the two weeks are up, the Bureaucrats will review the community discussion and make a decision based upon it. The user will be notified of the status of their request, and will be promoted should it appear that the community is willing to accept them as a System Operator.

Example Application

Example User

I've been around 3 months, and I've made to date 550 edits. As you can see [link here] and [link here], I've been in the leadership role attempting to create a new format for this page. I'd very much like to become a System Operator.

  • Against - Example User, I haven't seen any evidence of your work on the wiki. --Some user 19:01, 25 July 2006 (BST)
  • Vouch - Example User is the most active guy here. --Another user 19:01, 25 July 2006 (BST)
  • Abstain - I'm just not sure, but I don't want to say why for some reason. --Some other user 19:01, 25 July 2006 (BST)
  • Question - I just want to know what you think about this subject? --Yet another user 21:26, 4 April 2013 (BST)

Candidates Currently Under Community Discussion

Bob Moncrief

Hey guys. I'm re-applying for sophood. I was a sysop (and crat) back in 2013, before vanishing suddenly in February 2014 due to RL goings-on. I showed up a few weeks ago, and would like the buttons back, mostly so I can cycle some old stuff accumulating on admin pages (e.g. the A/PMs below) and update the relevant templates, which are protected to non-sysops.

If you'd like info on me, you can see my userpage, sysop archives (including my last promotion, which lists some of my pre-2014 accomplishments), and definitely ask me questions below. Thanks! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 17:17, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

  • Strong Vouch - The guy disappears for a year and a half, then suddenly picks right back up where he left off, which is to say, resuming his work in being one of the best users this site has ever had. I'm convinced he's another user in disguise (Yonn? Maps? An alternate personality of mine that I'm unaware of?), since I don't know how he could do it otherwise, but, frankly, I don't care, because he's low on drama, doesn't need coddling, keeps a cool head, somehow doesn't burn out, and is super high on the sheer amount of work he can put out. Chain him to sysop-hood before he changes his mind or disappears to Greece again. Aichon 17:57, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
He's me. Also you. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:41, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
    And we're Maps. Aichon 17:46, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Vouch - He's so active you'd think working on the wiki was his job -- Doublepong Talk 20:18, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Against - Suddenly vanishing as a bureaucrat is no small deal, and you've only been back for two weeks. I'd like to see you remain consistently active before I'm confident you're here for the long haul. A ZOMBIE ANT 00:54, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • This place needs more sysops - it's not sustainable for the wiki to have four five sysops. Bob's done the job well in the past, and if having another sysop around means that janitorial stuff gets done quicker, that's good. And if he disappears next week, considering how quiet this place is, it's not the end of the world. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:41, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Vouch Either stay this time or totally wreck this place on the way out. Either is acceptable to me. --KCLZA 16:11, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • FUCKYES i don't care that he disappeared. shit happens and this place is really not that important. the fact the when he is here; does great work as a user and sysop, and has never pissed me off over anything!?!? says a lot. chain him to the mother fucking job.--User:Sexualharrison17:44, 3 September 2015
  • VOUCHARINO I like this guy, he turned up missing and as soon as he gets back to UD hes updating long forgotten building status pages left and right, and a lot of the ones i was too lazy to do, Robert Jebediah James Moncrief the Fifth for cratitude or at least sysopTired of this evil bitch sitting next to me08:30, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Jerrel Yokotory

I have a lot of edits on this wiki. I've been on this site since 2008ish. Actulley, most of my Danger Reports from back then were pretty legit, I was a huge Danger Report Editor. I also made some great In-Game suggestions over the years, And I was one out of 6 or so commanders of my formally uninactive group of 50 people. So I know how to lead. I haven't been active since roughly 2010, but hey niether has Kevan am I right? Granted, I'll probabley go inactive again after about the next week or so, but hey, I made a great contribution to the suggestions (In-game) page earlier. I feel I should be granted Sysop status so that I may better the Wiki for a week or so before I inevitably get bored or banned or both. Jerrel tlk (82nd!) (Project Unwelcome!). 02:53, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

  • Nope - You didn't make an edit for four years, and this is the best you've got when you came back? We expect better of candidates aiming to fill the role of "inactive sysop". Aichon 06:19, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
  • Against - Three bids; six years apart, and in every single one you fail crit 2. even if crit 2 was "5 edits in the last 6 months", you would still fail crit 2.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:32, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
All ops would fail crit 2 today. The promotion guidelines do not really reflect the wiki of today. -- Spiderzed 10:20, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
    It's a reference to his previous bids. Lern2wikiInJoke.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 12:28, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
I may not be the best formatting guy, heck, I basically have to copy and paste other formatting and change the name around, but hey that's better than nothing. Yes, I only show up to comment on random A/VB rulings and hopeless hilarious promotion bids like this. But if elected, I can guarantee I will personally edit up to 250 Danger Reports just to prove a point. Maybe throw in a few real suggestions on how to fix a few of the godawful navigation systems to different pages to archives (I swear, trying to find my old A/VB rulings and batshit crazy suggestions (No Swearing? Haha I was such a kid.) was literally an hour process) I'll probably do that anyways, seeings as how I'm kinda active now, and the Danger Reports on buildings could use a little update. But, if elected, it will be a guarantee (Not just an, eh, maybe) I will edit as much as I can. (Just to prove a point)(Well, until I get bored and go inactive for months.) Again. I'm definantley not the right person for the job. I don't even know how long I will be active. Days? Weeks? If you want a horribly inaccurate representation of what a sysop should be, and you want an wildly unpredictable inactive sysop, then vote me. Again, I'm not the right person for the job. You don't need me, and I don't need you. Vote me as UD wiki Sysop.-- Jerrel tlk (82nd!) (Project Unwelcome!). 20:23, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
Also, I went ahead and changed the text at the top, because it did not properly reflect me running. There is 1 candidate running.-- Jerrel tlk (82nd!) (Project Unwelcome!). 20:40, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

That's just the thing. I'm not the right person for the job. I definantley don't deserve it. I've never done anything beside a few hundred Danger Reports. I'm wildly inactive. I shouldn't even be posting this promotion bid. Vote me UD wiki sysop.-- Jerrel tlk (82nd!) (Project Unwelcome!). 04:21, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
