At a young age her mother vanished into the dead of night, abandoning their family. Her father, a humble and hardworking fisherman, did the best that he could to raise a young girl on his own. Attached at the hip, father and daughter were inseperable, living the most joyous life they could. At the dawn of each day Umiko would send off her father, as he would voyage beyond the harbor to harvest the coastal schools of fish. Her simple life, of which she loved so dearly, was shattered one day when a rogue squall hit Japan's coast. Her father didnt' return to the safety of the harbor that evening. Local fisherman took to combing the waters along their coast, but to no avail. Heartbroken and alone, she could no longer take the days of mourning her father.
