Danger Updater!

I am volunteering my alt  •Clover Field • talk •MDU to the cause of the Danger updater! I'm working through Judgewood at the moment. I have to stay away from Grigg Heights but my original account can handle that burb.

I'm setting Clover's group as "Danger Updater" to hopefully keep from getting PK'd. Sound good?

-- •Evelyn Emrys•  •[talk]•  19:27, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Awesome and thanks! I've got my alt DangerUpdater listed with the same group tag. That alt mostly wanders the city as a zombie, but I've gotten combat revived quite a few times in green suburbs anyway. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 21:13, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
Sounds good then. I'm not usually too concerned other than it impedes tracking zombie/survivor presence at times. Oh! I also made a UDWIki Page outline: Malton Danger Updaters . Once I've got time I can input more design and stuff. -- •Evelyn Emrys•  •[talk]•  18:09, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
I saw that, thanks! I'm also on a time crunch this month (being an adult is hard...) but will hopefully be able to work on it in the next week or two. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 23:59, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

A/DE transclusions

I guess it must have been used as a transclusion system to mimic how A/VB used to be done when there was more traffic. At the time there were lots of 'career vandals' who would want de-escalations so I guess it made sense for the time. No need now though I would say. A ZOMBIE ANT 23:02, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Ehh, no harm's being done. I'll change it over at next year's cycling. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 09:21, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
Good work. Yeah you're right, no harm done, though it is a comical look into how different things seem to be to how they were 5 years ago! A ZOMBIE ANT 23:09, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
5 years ago there would have been a 3 week long heated discussion, with one Misconduct case against Bob for transcluding it, one for not transcluding it, one against the whole sys-op team but Bob for not stepping in, three semi-related Arbitrations over non-issues during the heated discussions, Woots monthly sys-op bid, another fruitless civility policy discussion because some mean words would be used, and some vandal b&ing against Mis for replacing the template with a duck pic. -- Spiderzed 23:23, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

What in the actual-?

Dude are we getting spambots again what the hell is this an ad for a real place?? [[1]] Commandant Romero (talk) 11:48, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Spamoboto uses Spam Attack on UDWiki. It's not very effective. Done. -- Spiderzed 15:57, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks SZ. Yeah, one got through about a week ago too — forgot to list it on the Bots page. I'm unused to them creating a separate page, rather than just their own userpage. Maybe they think it'll get by us better. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:12, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Most spambots tend to edit their own userpages by default because most wikis are locked down sufficiently that brand-new, unconfirmed accounts can’t create new pages in any other namespace. The occasional spammer/bot will be ever-so-slightly smarter and will actually try, hence what you were seeing. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ You rated this wiki '1'! Signature

Hey, I was wondering, and sorry about the unsigned updates, how do you do the multiple signatures, do you just swap it out in the preferences or is there an easier way? :) Bonersmith (talk) 18:21, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

I assume you mean like Bob Moncrief EBDW! and Danger Updater MDUDC? I only use the latter when doing bulk updates, so I actually copy-paste it, then type five tildes (~~~~~) which just adds a timestamp rather than a full signature. The former is just a regular templated sig. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 19:55, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Groups

Hey Bob another player and I recently brought Coram back online ingame, and he hasn't played in awhile. He is a member of Coram News Network, and used to be apart of CORAM. At the occasion of the EBS back up we were wanting to restart both of those groups seeing as I think they're inactive. He doesn't know how to use the wiki, I barely can, and even then I don't know the rules that well. I was wondering if we could recombine the two groups back together into CORAM News Network within the game, and the wiki since neither of them have been active. Thanks in advance. --__/Storm\___ «^^^» 22:53, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Thank you very much for reaching out! I am very glad new players are being welcomed. UD seems pretty dead or at least lacks coordination.

Still not sure exactly how active I will be, but about to put a call out to my friends in my gaming group to join me. We did a little initial playthroughs and think we might take up some residency there.

I am still very new to the wiki and how to make it work, so please if you don't mind, can you direct me to some clear-cut user-friendly tutorials on how to use the wiki? I tried to find simplistic guides and was unable to do so.

Thank you for your help!

Recruitment

Hey Bob I just recently finished a recruitment page for CORAM, and I was wondering whether or not you could look it over to see if it's good. I'm not that sure if I formatted it correctly. __/Storm\___ «^^^» 22:13, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

It looks fine to me! You have a lot of flexibility with your recruitment ad, as long as it 1) has no internal headers or other code which breaks the page and 2) is properly labeled, ordered and boxed on the Recruitment page itself. My one recommendation would be you might wand another line or two of text explaining who/what/where CORAM is. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 22:28, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Re: the comment on this edit

So, I wanted to poke you regarding the comment on that edit, since to the best of my recollection, groups aren't required to pass historical voting before being added to that spot. We've talked about reconciling historic voting with the suburb group listings, but as far as I can recall, we haven't actually done so yet. We typically let the locals decide what belongs and what doesn't, and only exclude stuff if they're obviously non-noteworthy (e.g. Joe Schmo's group that can't claim much beyond simply existing for a few months). Did I forgot about a policy changes where we linked Historic Group voting with the historic listings? Aichon 19:20, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

There's a precedent here, I think you might be right. Disputes between parties over what's historical fall under arbitration as you'd expect. I think. A ZOMBIE ANT 00:14, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Hmm, ok, my bad! I could have sworn there was a vote for that, but I can't find it so I've restored the edit.
One thing that makes this a little more complicated, though: this status update implies it's not historic (contrary to what the actual group page says) but that there are members currently active in the Shackleville area. I'll leave a comment on the editor's page asking if it should instead be in active groups rather than historic. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:58, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
I probably would have left it off too, but it's not pressing for now. Good call just asking and hashing it out. A ZOMBIE ANT 04:35, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

--SarahSig.png 15:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

"Still at it" — well, kind of vanished for a year plus in there, but these goobers voted me back in anyway.
And I'm pondering a proposal to split the "ghost town" status into two ("ghost town — ruined" and "low-population intact"). But yeah, gray is still the color in vogue this season. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 16:30, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Would it make sense to reduce the entire size of Malton by half? --SarahSig.png 17:05, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Oh, totally! But that would require Kevanic intervention (fingers crossed we still get something out of Survey 2015!). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 17:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Every time this idea was brought up in Developing Suggestions (and it happened at least a dozen times) there was a huge cry among players fearing to lose their favourite burb or the hangout of their own group. Now it could get through though, as there are no active players and groups left. Only us cemetery gardeners on the wiki, making sure the grass is in a nice shade of green, and full-moon night singing to the dead ancient tales of witches and wenches and kings and mall sieges... -- Spiderzed 22:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
My vote is to knock out the outermost ring of suburbs (down to 8x8) or two rings (to 6x6). I wouldn't mind a borderside view for the Temple. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:07, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Such a shame in my mind that there was never any attempt to co-market with the Walking Dead. There is absolute beauty in the surface simplicity and underlying complexity of this game that transcends any technological advance. I think the reduction would have to be more deliberate - to make sure the proportion of resources remains (malls, etc.) remains more or less the same after the territory shrinkage. Which probably makes it all the more likely. Really, we're people hanging around the party after the keg is long kicked - but I just can't quit you people!! Though it's exceedingly difficult to find people worth killing.--SarahSig.png 13:25, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

I never mind....

anyone updating danger reports. Besides, you always write more than I do. Its just over 100 danger reports at a time. :) RosslessnessWant to complete a dangerous mission? 19:23, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

what exactly is a ghost town anyway

i know there's been quite a bit of people talking about it years and years ago, but people never really seemed to come to a conclusion and let's be honest the wiki's definition is pretty bad

so seeing as how you are the most active suburb danger updater by a wide margin what is gray really to you - Novi (talk) 04:40, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

If you want a statistical/definitional answer for what I use, I've made a chart over at MDU which I use when DangerUpdating. Generally that means a D or F lights rating (occasionally C) with fewer than 20 zombies around.
More philosophically, a ghost town to me is a suburb that a) isn't seeing a particular uptick on zombie activity, i.e. no more than 1-2 zombies outside a few buildings, and b) isn't in a state properly maintained by survivors — either because it's in ruins, or because it's improperly lit/caded/has awkward (should be easily-repairable) ruins. A good example of the latter at the moment is Rhodenbank — despite being mostly "safe" at the building level, it only has one lit building, very inconsistent cades, and ruins at key free-running chokepoints.
Others — have comments on what a Ghost Town means to you? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 09:46, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Bobs is a good definition. I would also add that when defining it I also look at wiki activity. If the only people updating any information about a suburb is Bob (or a handful of other brave souls who care little about dying) Its more than safe to assume its exactly what it looks like. --RosslessnessWant to complete a dangerous mission? 11:32, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
I tend not to use wiki activity so much, mostly because I know it's not balanced around the city — there's a surprising concentration of Northwesterners (e.g. greater Caiger area, Grigg Heights, etc) as opposed to other parts of the city, and of course more concentration on border/active areas (generally yellow/orange suburbs) because players are attracted to where the action is. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 12:01, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Agreed, its only good as a secondary source. As for survivor behaviour influencing reporting I will have to defer to bob. Theres are some lovely suburbs out there with no one in. RosslessnessWant to complete a dangerous mission? 12:49, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
ooh, so much activity going on here, not what i expected.. well, i asked because i had been sticking around in crowbank for the last week, and very promptly bailed after witnessing the insanity the suburb has to offer.. now, going by the EM reports there's almost nothing going on there, but that's because everything important is happening indoors (most zoms these days seem to prefer hanging out in any ruins instead of outdoors if possible), and i personally witnessed something like 4 PKs/3 parachutes/6ish EHB++++ breakins + ruins in the span of 12 hours the very day it was downgraded to gray.. the place is an absolute fuckfest of death cultists and zerg-zoms, i've never seen such a violent area in my entire time playing, sans the hundreds vs hundreds mall sieges of old.. so i'm not sure if gray is really accurate, and in reality its danger level may be something beyond red: there is absolutely no sanity in crowbank right now, i hope those few crazy bastards on that one lit NT reviving people manage, somehow - Novi (talk) 04:52, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
I'd say definitely change Crowbank's status, then! I try not to overrule on-site reports with EMR-based information, but much of the city is so consistent/underreported that EMR is most of what's available. EMRs are always intended to be only a supplement to on-site reporting, though. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 05:02, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
i suppose i will then, though since i've left that hellhole i wonder if it would actually qualify as a ghost town after what occurred the last few days.. i've noticed when trying to band together with people to reclaim grays we usually get wiped out within 8h, so one really has to wonder about the actual activity levels of suburbs (and i think it's why the current definitions could use some work, especially with the low population), buuut who knows - Novi (talk) 06:14, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, Bob's is a decent one. More or less, I view a ghost town as any suburb that simply feels empty. Walking around the streets would generally be relatively safe for survivors since there would be few or no zombies, and likewise free running through the buildings (were it possible) would show few to no survivors present. That said, even in "populated" suburbs, I've found that it's generally quite possible to sleep outdoors in plain sight for days at a time, so long as you don't do so in immediate sight of zombies who happen to be nearby. When the SoC was hosting a for-fun PK competition for its members a year or two back, I started sleeping outdoors since it actually ended up being safer than sleeping indoors where someone hunting for you would be looking. And that was in Darvall Heights and the surrounding area. Aichon 15:18, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
In my MDU work I've been really surprised by how many survivors sleep outside. Although when I check profiles, most of them are very low level and probably haven't learned the game's customs yet. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 19:57, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Back in town

Hi

Just got back to the game after an eternity of absence, glad to see the Danger Center is still up and running (and hasn't broken the entire wiki at some point as I half expected to happen...).

Where's the action currently at? Both in game and on the wiki?

PB&J 18:25, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Hey Johnny! So glad to see you're back! What've you been up to these past few years?
The DangerCenter is still so active there's actually a group dedicated to keeping it updated! So your legacy definitely lives on ^_^
On-wiki, not much is up. You may want to know that there was a big reform of the bureaucrat and re-eval procedures — both are coming up in June/July. I spend a lot of time now on NecroConnect, a forum about a year old created in response to the 10th-anniversary survey in 2015.
In-game things are definitely hopping in Darvall Heights and the surrounding area, with Caiger having just fallen and zombie-survivor battles ongoing. Things are quieter in most of the rest of the city, although rumor has it there's been a PK surge in the greater Crowbank area.
Cheers! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:20, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Wow, that's pretty awesome, never thought it would last so long :)
I'll have to take a look at that new forum one of these days.
I joined up with the DEM again for now, and my zed is with the RRF, but they seem to have winded down quite a bit :( The ravages of time I guess... PB&J 07:40, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
The latest big event in the city was the Fifth of November 2015, which saw quite the siege (~150 players all told) and other battles in Ridleybank. Things have been very quiet since then. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:01, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
150 players in total and it's quite the siege. We're finally reaching the realistic zombie survival point :p PB&J 18:15, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Quick Question

Is it possible to make a scroll box and if so, how?

I'm updating several locations with local lore and history, based on past danger reports, but this can become quite big (eg. Blockwood Auto Repair (Molebank) and I think a scroll box would be a clean fix :)

Thanks in advance!

PB&J 10:04, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

It is possible. Just add a CSS style with overflow: scroll to a page element that would otherwise contain too much content for the size you've set (i.e. you need to set a height and width for it to be able to overflow its bounds). For instance:

In hac habitasse platea dictumst. Phasellus tellus felis, eleifend sed velit at, fringilla cursus ligula.

Integer quis gravida orci. Donec luctus pulvinar sapien eu mollis. Sed at tincidunt mi.

You can see some examples of this sort of stuff over at Yonn's user page if you look through the older versions of his page, since he made heavy use of scrollboxes. Aichon 14:42, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Aah, just like the old days. I ask idiotic questions and Aichon patiently gives the obvious answer ;)
Thanks! PB&J 14:52, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Nothing idiotic about that question at all! And it was an easy answer. Took me about as long to find a lorem ipsum generator as it did to remember the CSS as it did to type up my response. ;) Aichon 15:47, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks again: I've been implementing this in several location's 'Current Status'-feed: it creates a much cleaner way to present the course of events at, for instance, the Blackmore Building. PB&J 11:15, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Aichon! Not a problem I've encountered before. But for these kinds of questions I often point people your way anyway ^^ Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:07, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
The one word of caution I'd advise is that not everyone has the same screen resolution, so be sure that it looks good at both larger and smaller screen sizes. Stuff like this tends to look good at one screen size, but not others. Aichon 14:11, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Help with a recruitment ad

Hey, I'm having trouble getting an ad up for MCM. I can get the group name to link, but the actual ad won't show. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, as I pretty much copied what the other groups edited in and changed the names to Malton College Of Medicine. I also tried MCM, but neither seem to work. This is the ad I created:http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Malton_College_of_Medicine/Recruit. Did I do something wrong with the actual ad page? I didn't think it would be this hard to get an ad up! stelar (talk) 02:16, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Ok, I think I've gotten it working. You were missing a template closure tag (|}) which was messing things up. Should look ok now. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 05:16, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Rebuilding?

Whatever happened to the Rebuilding tag for danger reports?

I mean, they seem useful in cases like the Mechel Museum, as can be seen here. PB&J 08:26, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

I still use it. It (and "in zombie hands", a couple others) are only on the Mall listings, but can be used for any building. If you want a breakdown of which status I use when, check out this list at MDU — I use "rebuilding" if a building is a) between loosely & QS barricaded; b) doesn't have zombies outside. I could see using it if a building is totally uncaded with lights on and no zeds, too. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I must have done something wrong when I tried using it for a couple buildings. PB&J 18:08, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Until there's a "I suicided a building in the middle of a zerg infested wasteland and now I'm on -158ap" status I'd just stick with rebuilding. --Rosslessness ; the shambling custodian of UD's past... 19:19, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Me again

Yup, me again, with another wiki-issue :) We've been putting the TRP statuses in a horizontal table in stead of the unpractical vertical one, and in our test environment it looks like this. When I implement it on the page of East Beck however, it looks like this... Any ideas? The table has a fixed width and everything, but for reasons I don't see the East Beck page couldn't care less about it. Thanks in advance! PB&J 19:38, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

The glitch isn't with the TRP statuses — it's with the featured location cycler! It seems to be trying to call a cycle 00 — do you not have a case for that? edit: you just need to create a page at User:Peralta/EBLocCycle00 with one of the locations.
As for the wide TRP status display, it looks fine on my computer, but you may want to implement a maximum width. If someone's on a small screen or has zoomed in to a large font, the TRP boxes get too wide and bump down below the right-hand bar. It's ironic...

...that it is the Malton Taoist op who gets to remove the Feng Shui house spam. -- Spiderzed 17:46, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Yep. But even spam about Feng Shui clutters the Feng Shui of the wiki. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 19:33, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello!

Thanks for the message. I had a quick question - does me changing the Danger Reports mess with your bot at all? Distran (talk) 20:01, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

I assume by my bot you mean my DangerReport updating? (It's not a bot, just me using an alternate signature.) And definitely feel free to update any and all statuses you like! My goal as part of the Malton Danger Updaters is to keep the DangerReport system as updated as possible. If you have any questions on how to update statuses or similar, just let me know. HELP!

Some jackoff named uberlegen deleted the Autobots group page in Pashenton. There is no contact information either for uberlegen. This guy has been PKing the Autobots since he appeared in Pashenton, and now he's destroyed our wiki page. Please fix this. Optimus Primus (talk) 04:27, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

I don't know if I was allowed to do it,but I have undone what uberlagen has done.If he does this again, just go to your pages history and click on "undo" next to his revision summary...I expect this guy will be given a warning or banning for what he's done...--PayneTrain(FU) 05:03, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Why may I ask is he resorting to such acts of idiocy?lol--PayneTrain(FU) 05:09, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi guys. Thanks Payne for undoing the edit. I'm watching the user and have left a message explaining their blanking action isn't a good idea. If it happens again make sure to report the user to A/VB. Thanks. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 10:59, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
He didn't just blank those two pages. He also specifically erased the Autobots as a group offering revives at a particular location, removed mention of their radio frequency, and replaced the current news for a location that they had posted with the news that the suburb was now a zone for criminals. I left the last one alone, since other than being a minor NPOV violation and part of a larger pattern of activity, it isn't worth mentioning, but I rolled back the other two. Seems to me like he both knowingly posted false information to the wiki and vandalized group-owned pages in an attempt to malign his opposition.
Honestly, I was inclined to just file the A/VB case myself and slap an immediate warning on his page since this is an open-and-shut case of someone making their bad intent perfectly clear, but because you've already talked to him, I'll leave it up to Optimus to decide if he wants to pursue an A/VB case or leave things as they are. The damage has been undone and we can easily undo anything further, but this was not an innocent mistake on the part of a newbie, so I have no qualms in letting them know that such behavior will not be tolerated. Aichon 15:14, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Aichon. I missed the NT edit; the others I thought were good faith, particularly because the user is a new editor and we allow the community to generally maintain & update the radio list on suburb pages. If, post a nudge message, a new user continues to make bad faith edits, it's straight to A/VB with him. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:35, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the fixes, guys. If you think an A/VB case is warranted I would be more than happy to pursue that. Uberlegen and his alts (uberlegen1, etc) have been consistently PKing us for months now, and apparently has listed the Autobots on the Bounty Hunter lists, wherever those are, and now Pashenton is being flooded with them. This all started with the player BottleCap112, who had originally been an Autobot until he refused to abide by truces made with other legitimate groups. He was kicked out of the group and for a long time would PK the Autobots all by himself. Then suddenly uberlegen appeared sending us regards from BottleCap. We have the distinct conclusion that BottleCap is now zerging, but we can't verify it other than the fact several of the creation dates for these names are within hours of each other. Optimus Primus (talk) 02:17, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Certainly! An A/VB case officially gave him a warning; if he returns to the wiki and vandalizes again, we'll A/VB him again. The wiki A/VB and similar systems intentionally don't deal with in-game zerging, so there's not much to do about that (but if you visit NecroConnect I know they're starting to document ongoing zerg cases). A/RE and crats

Crats have never undergone A/RE, as their election is regarded as enough proof that the community wants to keep them around some more. I only know that Ross underwent voluntary A/RE a few years ago while he was a crat. -- Spiderzed 11:04, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Ehh, I think it's much more fair now that A/REs are less frequent to have everyone, including crats, undergo them. But whatever, I've removed Ross; consider mine voluntary. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 13:00, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

We are very unlikely to see any op stripped by A/RE anytime soon anyway, unless they become inactive over a long stretch of time (like Mis currently does) or suddenly go rogue Grim_s style (which I consider way out of character for anyone on the current roster). -- Spiderzed 18:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Wiki tables

Guess who's being crap at wiki-editting again? This guy!

Me and Stelar are working on a new EBD page, drafts can be found here (Stelar's), here (my WIKI code one) and here (my HTML code one. They all suffer from the same problem: no matter how we set the width of a cell, if you fill it with enough text, it will stretch out and ruin your entire lay-out. I've tried quite a few things, including clean builds, help pages and working HTML in stead of WIKI. Nothing seems to help.... Suggestions? PB&J 15:26, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Nvm, I think I got it. PB&J 15:46, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Glad you've got it. I normally just <br/> things, but that's a brute-force method where finesse would probably do better. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:31, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Old Danger Report

Just letting you know, but this danger report was two years old. Is a categorie or something missing on the page? I thought we updated all of Malton since then? PB&J 09:19, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

The prior update was to "unknown". Once a report is marked "unknown", it doesn't get updated again in sweeps — it would say the exact same thing ("Last updated November 2013"). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:33, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
Wait, I think I understand what you're saying — not that its "unknown" wasn't updated, but that nobody bothered to fill in the info. Club Colridge (alongside North Library) is actually pretty distant from the rest of Darvall Heights by free-running lanes, so if someone (e.g. me) decides to update "all" of Darvall with a survivor alt, they might leave those two buildings out. And Darvall actually hasn't been surveyed by any prior MDU assignments (it's as yet unclaimed in the ongoing Summer Suburb TLC assignment). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:36, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
I've seen a few really old 'marked unknown' buildings (usually, "last updated in 2013") while I've been updating suburbs. I just figured they were just missed. stelar (talk) 21:03, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Template Calls

Looks like I set myself the challenge: how to make things not work in the least amount of lines possible: http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Template:EBD/SafeHospitalCounter2

Any ideas why the second switch doesn't give me the same output as the first?

PB&J 10:28, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Tried fiddling for a minute, honestly no idea. Maybe User:Aichon can help? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:14, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Well, the most obvious thing I saw was that the inputs aren't the same. The first switch is being given "1 1" (without the quotes), but the second switch is actually being given "1 1 " (again, without the quotes, but with the extra space), which you'll see if you toss quotation marks around the data on the last line of the page. I don't know that that would be sufficient to mess things up, but the space seems to be coming from the fact that the <noinclude> in the actual danger reports is on a separate line from the rest of the code that is actually being included. Erasing that line break causes the extra spaces to go away. At that point, you could make your inputs look like "11" instead, which should work as intended without any problems. Aichon 15:03, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
I’d say you’re running up against the limits of what the standard template system was designed to handle. Without Parser Functions available, there’s only so much can be done. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ You rated this wiki '1'! Great job, go hog wild!|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 11:40, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
It's alive! It's alliiiiiive! Thank you. We will now proceed with making horrible amounts of template calls for very little use :) PB&J 16:03, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Special:RecentchangesLinked/East Becktown

If I call {{Special:RecentchangesLinked/East Becktown}}, I get a list of recent changes related to East Beck. If call {{Special:Recentchanges/3}}, I get the last three edits on the entire wiki. How do I get the last three edits of a specific subject? :) PB&J 12:10, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

You mean within a category? e.g. {{Special:RecentChangesLinked/Category:Barrville_Danger_Levels}}? Or do you mean subject as in person, in which case you can just navigate to their contributions? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 12:16, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it tracks the categories or searches for the words "East Becktown" in Special:RecentchangesLinked/East Becktown, but the problem I'm having is the number of outputs. With Special:Recentchanges/3, it's limited to the last 3 of the entire wiki, but I want the x number of most recent outputs for Special:RecentchangesLinked/East Becktown. PB&J 12:18, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
If you go to the RCL/East Becktown page, there's an area at the top to sort among them. Just click "Show Last (number)" of your choice. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:36, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Welcoming thingy & other questions

Hi bob thanks for the welcome, you said you had a character in grigg heights? If you still do maybe we could help each other out. Also do you know any active groups in grigg heights? Thanks in advance.

I think that in the grigg heights area their main base was at the Edmund general hospital but it has fallen to a couple of zombies which I am currently attacking whenever I get enough energy but as far as I could see it looked like nobody was there. P.s. I will join anyways because you are probably right. Fonty16 (talk) 21:08, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

I am currently in wriford museum (my safehouse) with a couple other survivors. It is VSB and I put 2 impressionist statues in it. Do you have any suggestions as to whether I should stay there or move to somewhere else? Thanks in advance. Fonty16 (talk) 21:12, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Sorry for the trouble bob but I don't know how to join Edmund general hospital let alone any group, sorry I'm still new to this stuff but I have so far tried going onto necroconnect but got confused, went onto their ad and went to Evelyn Emerys profile but couldn't get to her talk page and I also added her to my contacts list in-game. Necroconnect

I went in created an account and went to look at the EDU forum but couldn't get on, couldn't find a way after around half an hour of searching and it's probably because I have no idea how it works so if you could maybe give me some help with that or something else along the lines of that it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the welcome :)

Thank you for teaching me how to do the signatures the easy way :) I struggled with the Necronet upload for a minute there today. In the end, I figured out that the different pages refresh at different rates. I am enjoying the wiki and having fun making up stories for the buildings that have no history. I will try to make them as fun as I can. Going to test out my creative writing / short story skills :) Stay awesome! --Johnny Colorado (talk) 05:44, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I'm happy to be of assistance. And I'm glad there's another person working on filling in the location pages with fun content. I particularly like what you did with The Voules Museum. Have a great day! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 12:37, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

The Voules Museum was my least favorite. As I put in the description, there are no searchable items but I still tell you to waste AP searching at the end of the story, lol. My personal favorite was The Hazeldine Museum, searching and being able to something from a story. The Owsley Museum was one that I wrote after a taxidermy show I once saw. The man was absolutely nutters, and well, you can pretty much get the story from the history... Someone had also left me a little nugget of history and I spun that into the last paragraph of the history. UrbanDead is fun on so many levels. Buildings that lack a story I will focus first. I am trying to link a few of them together and eventually get an overall suburb going. Thank you for your patience with me, I'm not too forum/wiki savvy but I'm slowly learning. If there is ever any way that I can help you or a certain area you want me to work on first, just let me know :) --Johnny Colorado (talk) 03:46, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Halp

I did it again: this and this should do the exact same thing for different buildings. Why does the first one give me spaces I didn't ask for and the second one doesn't? PB&J 11:18, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Tried something but the template won't refresh (or it didn't work). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:22, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

I appreciate your hospitality, Bob. I have been a long time player over the years, back from a long hiatus. I only re-registered to ask if the Toolbox drop rate and/or locations have been changed since I've been away. I've spent 200-300 AP looking for toolboxes in lit factories and auto repair shops to no avail! NeilTabor (talk) 18:46, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Welcome back! I replied to your message on Talk:Useful Items#Toolboxes, but in short, I don't think they've been changed. There is a high-ish survivor population right now, so overall search rates aren't the highest I've seen. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 19:52, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see--thanks for the response and sorry for the duplication. I didn't anticipate such a quick response! I guess I'll keep searchin'! Thanks, again. NeilTabor (talk) 17:24, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Regarding the Nazification of SoC's channel

Hopefully it's gone down quite a bit for you. I suspect the issue was a Nazi zerger we were dealing with in eastern Malton during a recent visit to that side of the city, since the messages seemed to stop around the time that we left there. I too found it quite annoying, and was glad to see it stop. Aichon 14:30, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

I don't know, it brought a certain je ne sais quoi to the radio traffic :P PB&J 14:32, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
I've had no radio on the SoC channel for a while, as I'm using the radio I normally use for the radio sweeps I'm doing, and my other is permanently on the EMR channel. Glad to know it's calmed down; I'll tune back in a week or so. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:34, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
The broadcasts this past week or two have actually been extraordinarily informative. Lots of people sharing intel regarding the zergers currently accumulating in Preston Arms. Aichon 19:00, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

I just made an account so I could start updating the Statuses of Suburbs! Is that okay for me to go ahead and do?

Namely changing my Suburb, Chudleyton to Green - and after having spent two days travelling to Grigg Heights, with two of my Allies, to find it was closer to Green, than Orange, I'm going to do the same for that Burb. (change to Yellow)
