The Journal

18 April, 2007

• Ezekiel Jones III of the Quartly Study Group proposes to catalogue all museum exhibits of Malton. xryanx1, gimbo, Lilandyrl and yours truly join the quest. I am assigned the Malton Southwest-- a quadrant extending from Griggs Heights east to Shore Hills, south to Williamsville, west to New Arkham and north again to Griggs Heights. We agree to collect specimens from each museum, when possible. Dr. Kimba will remain in the Quartly Library in order to keep cell phone contact. In preparation for the dangerous journey, I stock up on first-aid kits and discard all other items save a mobile phone, GPS unit, and of course my notebook.
• If killed, I plan to continue the expedition, without collecting specimens.
• The journey shall begin tomorrow evening, when I shall make the crossing from Roftwood to Shore Hills. I will overnight in The Spurway Hotel, and on the the 20th of April will visit Shore Hills' sole museum-- the Thornhill. After the Thornhill I will continue to Brooksville and visit its five famed museums: Bridge, Uzzell, Harrold, Burrows, and Hewlet. That evening, I will sleep in North Blytheville's seedy Patterson Hotel.

• Sleeping in the Library, gathering strength for the crossing to Shore Hills. Gimbo reports finding African glassware in Pimbank's Pretty Museum. I'm thinking about altering my original plan so as to spend more time (25AP?) searching each museum for as long as I am alive.
• Voyage has begun. In Stanbury Village I observe ninety zombies outside the southwest corner of the Nichols Mall. No samples taken. Other than that horde, the Village seems to be a quiet, well-barricaded suburb.
• Galbraith Hills is gray and desolate. The Rhoden Museum is the only lit building I've seen in the whole suburb.
• Arrived in Shore Hills, also a grey and foreboding suburb. Having miscalculated the amount of effort it would take to make the crossing, I lack sufficient AP to get to The Spurway Hotel. Instead, I'm overnighting in Wadham Cinema, an extremely heavily barricaded and almost-empty building on the suburb's edge. Next door, The Hardinge Arms have three zombies sleeping with survivors. Here in Wadham I share the dark auditorium with The Swan and Iluliaq. Swan is a Warrior and Iluliaq a Black Beret. I suspect Iluliaq may be Finnish or Estonian. I greet Swan and Iluliaq, tell them of my mission, and invite them to the Talent Show. Iluliaq informs me that she's a harpoon sharpshooter:

• From the Burrows I travel northwest to The Harrold Museum, its unusual exhibition of impressionist puppets now thick with dust. The Museum appears to be a safehouse for the Bandit Queens. I introduce myself, invite them to the Talent Show, and collapse on the floor, exhausted.

• Having met Whiskey Dick, I search the Harrold. Diligent looting, however, reveals no artifacts.
• On to The Uzzell Museum, its collection of conceptual sculpture now thick with dust. I find three conceptual sculptures and go to sleep. Tomorrow I will search thirteen more times.

23 April, 2007

• In the Uzzell I find two more conceptual sculptures.
• I move next door to The Bridge Museum, its exhibition of tapestries ransacked by looters. I find a Mouldering Tapestry, two mediaeval tapestries, a Faded Tapestry and a Torn Tapestry. I am greeted by a friendly zombie, and tomorrow shall search ten more times.

• I travel on to Greentown and The Deed Museum, its exhibition of tapestries ransacked by looters. Two survivors greet me here, and I invite them to the Talent Show. I find a Torn Tapestry and fall asleep. Tomorrow I will search sixteen more times.

• In the Deed I find a Greek Tapestry.
• I journey on to The Maudslay Museum, its extensive collection of stuffed animals now thick with dust. I find three Stuffed Alligators, two Stuffed Tiger Heads, a Stuffed Bear, two Stuffed Monkeys and a Stuffed Moose Head.

• I travel on to The Cornelius Museum, its collection of work by conceptual artists now thick with dust. A young zombie guards the museum rubble, so I am unable to search. I ask the zombie politely to leave temporarily, and then go sleep in a nearby building.
