Having arrived in Malton via unknown and mysterious means Oppenheimer has set about familiarizing himself with the city and its current state. Despite his ability to grasp complex scientific principles and theories, being deposited with little fanfare in the midst of a zombie outbreak has left him a little at a loss. Luckily he was quickly able to procure a fire axe from a storeroom in the ruined building he has taken shelter in. That should at least provide some protection from the dark shapes shambling about through the empty streets that he has spied through the boarded up windows. </TD></TR> | Having arrived in Malton via unknown and mysterious means Oppenheimer has set about familiarizing himself with the city and its current state. As the days passed and survival became a less pressing concern Rob's mind turned back to the task of deciphering the intricacies of the world around him. He had witnesses with his own two eyes the living torn asunder only to rise again with an insatiable hunger to repeat the acts that led them to their own undead state. Then those who mere moments before had been rotting yet still ambulatory where turned back to a state of being indiscernible from one who had never died with a simple prick of a needle and the application of what can only be described as a miracle formula.
Truly this was hell as the impermanence of death, when analyzed and extrapolated to its logical conclusion could only be described as a modern example of the Sisyphean myth brought to horrifying reality. But with that simple realization of the uselessness of this existence Oppenheimer instead chose to see what it truly meant...Freedom.
Freedom. Freedom from the moral constraints that lead others to label him one of history's greatest monsters. Freedom from concern for the well being of his fellow man...at least on a micro level. No the time was ripe for the Macro! The great cause could now be pursued like never before. Malton provided the greatest maze, populated with immortal rats and the knowledge that could be acquired was limitless! The goal of course was the greater good but unlike the world at large here the ends truly justified the means as the means meant literally nothing. A man could be flayed alive and simply brought back to life as though nothing had happened...behavior could be studied...limits pushed.
This newfound enthusiasm send quivers down Oppenheimer's spine which were only magnified as he came across others who shared his enthusiasm as well as his lack of empathy. The Flowers of Decay indeed exemplified the pursuits that Rob himself was devoted wholly to.
