Official Record

Tarumigan Gistarai is a soldier and police officer, or at least he was before this entire city descended into madness. He's been here since the beginning, dodging murderers and zombies and carving out an existence for himself in the tortured, crumbling streets of Malton. He fought for a very long time by himself until his footsteps carried him to the barricaded doors of Ackland Mall in the company of one Dr. Jennifer Carreira, a former Necrotech scientist who has told him much about the origins of the outbreak. The extent of his knowledge about Necrotech's activities in Malton is uncertain, but he clearly knows more than he speaks of.

History

Exile From Ackland Mall Security

Important Note! This section is written by Tarumigan, and thus represents Tarumigan's point of view.

'I first wish to note something very, very clearly. I know that my evacuation of Ackland Mall during the Second LUE Siege angered many, as did the subsequent split in the AMS hierarchy. It was never my intention to do so. It was also not my intention to flee indefinitely, nor was I being a coward. I withdrew from Ackland and tried to bring the whole Mall with me. I wanted to make a stand at Brennand NT and defy LUE's power. When that plan failed, I did what I could to save those who had come with me, and had some success.

I have fought long and hard for the Acklanders. They may have disliked my methods, but they should never have questioned my resolve or dedication. It was I who marched to Hildebrand to fight the LUE there. It was I who led the strike team to Caiger to resist LUE's attack on it. I must have done something right, for I enjoy the paradox of respect amongst my enemies. For those of you who dislike me because of what I did, I ask for understanding. Not forgiveness, for there is nothing to forgive. But I did what I had to, and I saved thirty lives because of it. For that, I paid with my career in the only organization that mattered to me, an organization I still reflect on fondly.

After a long term of service with Ackland Mall Security, Tarumigan was ousted in what might be described as a power struggle between the AMS old guard and the newer faces of Tarumigan's bloc. The struggle revolved around Tarumigan's authority within the group in general, but it was touched off by an acute incident...the Second Siege of Ackland Mall by the LUE horde.

Prior to the siege, Tarumigan became aware of the approach of the horde and, realizing that the Mall's population was insufficient to withstand the attack, he ordered Ackland Mall's evacuation unilaterally without consulting the rest of AMS. In his defense, the evacuation order was issued less than 24 hours prior to the assault on the Mall...it is questionable if there was sufficient time for a broad-ranging discussion of policy amongst AMS Command. AMS officials subsequently countermanded his order, leading to general confusion amongst the civilian population. Ultimately, about 30 of those who fled with Tarumigan survived the Mall's collapse. This event touched off a running argument between Tarumigan and other AMS officers as they disagreed on the strategy to retake the Mall. Ultimately, Tarumigan was fired as Strike Team Commander. He protested this decision and was re-instated by popular vote. Two weeks after the vote, he was again fired...this time in defiance of the vote. He was subsequently kicked out of AMS and banned from their forums. This led to a temporary exile from Havercroft, a permanent exile from AMS, and the general dissolution of AMS as considerable numbers of officers resigned in protest over the actions of AMS Administration.

He has since signed on with AMS ally "The Crimson Clan" to continue his service in the Havercroft region. The longer term impact of the firing has been devastating for AMS. AMS lost some of its' most visible members in the ensuing exodus. In addition, the alliance with the Crimson Clan was shaken, and the alliance with the Malton Bounty Emo Killers group was altogether severed. Whether AMS will survive this turbulence remains to be seen.
