Userpage help

Thank you I can do with all the advice I can gather, your name sounds familiar something to do with Red Rum possibly? I copied Aphelions page to give me an idea of the general setup. It a little more complicated than I imagined. Eventually I thought it might even lead to setting up a group on here. My concentration isn't too flash I received a beating and now have some major problems so this is going to be quite an effort.

Thanks PastyGeeky --PastyGeeky 10:50, 21 May 2009 (BST)

Rabit Hole and DHPD Testemonials

AS far as the Rabit Hole goes I doubt anyone else in the DHPD even know about it since it dates back to 2006 and was part of a Massive arby's case that ended up getting Maxwell Hammer/Reetoric permabans. The Testimonials I'm sure just didn't get moved when people decided that everything had to be in the DHPD Namespace. Though it is pretty obvious by its title who it belongs to. "there will always be users like Honestmistake and SirArgo who justify his antagonism and fuel him further"

I would appreciate it if you would strike my name from that comment, I know you already apologized and I do appreciate that but; since the linked comments were moved; it still reads as if I had something to do with Izzy's attitude. I have decided after some consideration that it is not in my capacity to join your group. As well as the fact that I am overcommitted on this wiki, I have three main characters being used in Malton and adding another to that would simply go over the IP hit limit. After reviewing your groups intentions, I also can't say I am interested in going next to Dunnel Hills and trying to reclaim a ghost town with a group of low-level roleplaying survivors. Perhaps in the future. Sorry, and good luck with your group. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 02:52, 17 June 2009 (BST)

I created the channel as per Bob's decision. He has been requesting that sysops get ^ops of the channel #udwiki, but animesucks and sonny did not yield, apparently. As such, sonny occasionally kicks/bans users when we disagree with him (light-heartedly, of course) but it was what made Bob choose to make a new channel. Essentially, it was your choice of who to leave the channel to that Bob disagrees with. And if you go there once a month, why should you give a shit what happens to it? About the spaz attack at A/MR. Big internal changes. We need a new wiki editor. Is it possible to edit so much you want to barf? --Haliman - Talk 06:05, 27 June 2009 (BST)

The images that just won't die.

On one of your pages somewhere you keep a small history of those three images that refuse to be removed from the lists despite being deleted. Well on Special:Unusedimages all three obviously show up (near the top), but better yet all three original files are on there and still recoverable. Mayhaps reuploading those original files, triggering a few updates in the job queue then nuking the images will do the job? Dunno, just thinking aloud here. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 21:01, 29 June 2009 (BST)

We have tried uploading the original files, and according to the revision history, Karek tried restoring a revision back in 2008, and by the looks of it, it didn't work :( I was always interested in just uploading my own images over it, but Link already tried that and apparently it doesn't work either. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 01:44, 30 June 2009 (BST)
Wait, what did you mean by updating the 'job queue'? DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 11:56, 1 July 2009 (BST)
Wait a second, I've found out why they don't die, at leased. Check the actual code of the images, [3],[4] and [5]. For some reason, there are extra codes on the filenames, eg. %E2%80%8EPDA_Badge.jpg, which ties these images in the same group as the pages that similarly won't die ([eg. 7th Fallschirmjger Div.) Now, if we find a way to de-code the sections (%E2%80%8E), upload an image with those symbols, then maybe it would upload it over what the Wiki thinks the images are? I got some help via #batshit, they led me here, but only the first character is à but the others are undefined. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 12:26, 1 July 2009 (BST)
...It's the hex code for "0xE2 0x80 0x8E (e2808e)". More info at [6] and [7]. Moonshine and Zbahnz tell me it may mean the uploader was from a country where the language is right-to-left and the code was automatically included into the upload? DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 12:32, 1 July 2009 (BST)
Agreed, after doing some investigation on php's function to encode URL's, it seems that is indeed the code for a left to right mark. The html code is ‎ so we can easily link to the right images.

The upload thing appears to lose the code in transition though, might need a bit more thinking before we get there yet... -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 16:32, 1 July 2009 (BST)

Uploaded the original PDA badge for another try. It appears as a separate listing on the unused files, so that's proof the the nicely named image which I uploaded is a different file from the crap one. All the old deletions are just deleting the nice file. The problem is all the links to the crap one are redirected by the wiki to the nice one. So some meddling around with the upload destination or some URL fiddling when deleting the image is in order. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 17:20, 1 July 2009 (BST)

Just tried fiddling around with the URL when uploading: and then attempting to upload yields:

  • File name has been changed to "PDA_Badge.jpg".
  • A file with this name exists already, please check Image:PDA Badge.jpg if you are not sure if you want to change it.

So it removes the mark, and then of course the filename matches the nice one. How did the image ever make it in the first place if it removes the stupid code? -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 17:32, 1 July 2009 (BST)

... Maybe an older version of Wiki software didn't change the filename, then Kevan updated the software (after these images were uploaded), and the new software had a feature which did not allow this type of symbol use when uploading files? DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 03:41, 2 July 2009 (BST)
Probably, Bugzilla turns up lots of entries for inaccessible/undeletable stuff. They patched it but the devs had to manually run scripts to fix the pages that were already bad. So we're probably stuck with them. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 13:12, 2 July 2009 (BST)

Any pitiful group with Umbrella in it's name is a retarded attempt at copying a legitimate antagonist faction from a well-respected videogame franchise. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 05:01, 1 July 2009 (BST)

Judging a group you have never been into, now that is pitiful. --Thadeous Oakley 10:22, 1 July 2009 (BST)
Your opinion of pitiful does not sway me, Mistergame. Avoiding an arbitration case which you previously accepted, by spurting bits of Dutch is pitiful to me, but I don't run in and whinge about it. If you were the exact same group but called the Parasol Biohazard Containment Service, then perhaps I wouldn't be against your group, however tryhard and irritating it looks (Grand Marshal? General? Please...) But I don't approve of groups taking the name of Umbrella and making it into the own group. Furthermore, when two groups who plagiarised the name go on a massive drama/vandal spree because both the groups were unoriginal enough to make their own group name, then it tips the boat for me. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 10:30, 1 July 2009 (BST)
I accepted that arbitration as much as a post-order bride accepts her marriage. The case would have gone through without me so a choice, no I hadn't. And be happy about Umbrella. Both groups are well organized, structured, nice wiki and have been or are successful to a good extent. If we would disband UC and UBCS then you can count on one hand how long it would take for a trenchcoater to turn Umbrella into the laughingstock that probably won't even hit the statspage. You can't create a zombie apocalypse without Umbrella turning up sooner or later. At least now its something good. --Thadeous Oakley 11:08, 1 July 2009 (BST)
It's a terrible and embarrassingly unoriginal concept for a group, but as long as we get in there before some noob trenchcoater, it'll be okay is a very poor mentality to have. You had no interest in talking to suicidalangel, as you don't now, so you should have just refused the case and have someone else represent you, it would at leased be the mature, productive thing to do. My talk page has had enough petty junk on it for one day, as you'd notice above, and I have no interest in furthering this argument about the Umbrellas or your arbitration woes. Maybe just get rid of the bureaucracy and unnecessary self-titling, if people wanted to find out the founder of the group, they would look at the group page, if they wanted to see the Wiki Editor, they would check the history. Putting it in your signature appeals to them, but the other 96% of the wiki probably find the titling a little redundant. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 05:14, 2 July 2009 (BST)

Of course I wouldn't stoop to that. A couple of members of CAPD and the SWA do already actively maintain wiki accounts and contribute to the wiki. == Your Sig ==--xoxo 16:10, 11 July 2009 (BST)

The timestamp starts on a new line, which makes the page a bit longer, and less visually attractive. I'll try and find a fix now (and post back here if I do,) so here's you're notification :P. It's probably just a rouge line break.

(User_talk:WanYao - example.) Linkthewindow  Talk  16:06, 11 July 2009 (BST)

That didn't fix it. Since it's not a wiki-breaking issue, I'll leave it up to you to revert back to the last working version or not. Linkthewindow  Talk  16:09, 11 July 2009 (BST)

Yeha stop fucking our wiki up yuo retard i'm sick of your shit.--xoxo 16:10, 11 July 2009 (BST)

Yeah I copied and pasted new + old code together without giving it any checkthrough. Noticed just before I hopped into bed. I'll fix now. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 16:11, 11 July 2009 (BST)
Rev got it. Linkthewindow  Talk  16:12, 11 July 2009 (BST)

It worked on your talk page a couple of minutes ago -- boxy talkteh rulz 02:59 12 July 2009 (BST)
I closed the <font> tags and got rid of the redundant noinclude tags, it should work fine now. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 04:17, 12 July 2009 (BST)

Thanks i owe you one lol. i love my new sig--Suff-TMS- <-- Killin' zombies! 05:32, 12 July 2009 (BST)

I finally broke down and jacked some of the code from your epically setup sig to create a new, revised one for myself. I hope my selfish act of wiki-code-stealing swells your pride. :D -- THELORDGUNSLINGER 03:49, 13 July 2009 (BST)

Thanks, I like it. It's a worthy fraud :D DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 06:49, 13 July 2009 (BST)

I've been archiving a few suburb News posts, and I've arrived at a conundrum. I've archived the whole month of June for most suburbs, but not deleted posts under a month old. Is this correct? Or should I be deleting the whole month?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 17:56, 14 July 2009 (BST)

While we're at it, what do I do if the last post on a page is more than a month old? Do I leave it, or put some snazzy line saying "There is no recent news for this suburb. Go to the archive, indicated here." --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 18:00, 14 July 2009 (BST)
There isn't a rule of thumb, but for the first problem, generally you just archive the whole month regardless of whether it's over a month old or not. Especially at this time of month, where it usually doesn't matter. For the second problem, just get rid of all the old news and add that notice, probably saying There is no recent news for this suburb. News older than 1st July 2009 can be found in the archive. The given month in a notice like this won't need an update because anyone who adds to the news will delete it anyway, but otherwise people will know just when the last news post was. And while you're here, thanks, I like users who dedicate themselves to under-maintained tasks in the wiki. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 18:08, 14 July 2009 (BST)
Actually, I don't know why I did it. It's like some weird force came over me. Anyway, as I'm nearly done, I'll come back to the pages where June remains, and I'll take it away, but for now I'll stop. I might end up doing it tomorrow.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 18:10, 14 July 2009 (BST)
Good luck. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 18:12, 14 July 2009 (BST)

Thanks for the welcome back - I don't know how long I'm going to be back, but being on the outside of the drama looking in makes it a whole lot easier to stomach and get back to work. It's good to see people step up and put in some effort on the wiki. I like your status stuff in your sig - nice coding. --Darth Sensitive Talk W! 18:42, 14 July 2009 (BST)
