Couldn't remember if suggestions get protected after the voting is done or not, and looking through some old ones is inconclusive, since some are protected and others aren't. Aichon 08:18, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Well i have no idea if you're being sarcastic, I'm vain like that but i'll take it as a compliment anyway. Yeah, I've been a bit of a bastard lately. On an issue related to my stressed out demeanor, I guess I might explain where I've been; I've been kicked out of home so I don't know when it will be than I can consistently edit again. For clarification, lately I have had minimal internet access but have chosen not to come back extensively because the occasional stress of UDWiki isn't what I need in my situation, but even despite these events I still plan on attending all Crat duties as they roll in, eg. SA's bid. As for a sig, just do something annoying and blue, should suffice. Unless you're passed plugging that ALiM garbage, but should I even hope? ;D -- 13:34, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Advice

I'm thinking of making a very public show of the fact I believe a group is systematically zerging on a large scale. I plan to list all the allegations on a page in my usespace. Now thats in no way vandalism is it? Im assuming as its my own page I can protect it myself as well? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:21, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Having an opinion isn't vandalism, and there's no control that the admins can exercise over a user's comments (barring stuff that goes against the TOU.) And sysop sub-pages aren't a scheduled protection, but I don't think anyone would care if you protected it. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:24, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
All of those things are fine by this wiki's guidelines, userpages can have any POV material and you won't be misconducted for protecting it yourself. -- 12:40, 14 January 2010 (UTC) -- 12:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

What the fuck is this tou and where did it come from? Its too long to bother reading but it seems to me to be some sort of sysop conspiracy. I've never been vandalismised for breaking it before...what the fuck is happening! !xoxo 08:51, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

The TOU page has been around for at leased a year i'm pretty sure, made as a project by SA to sort of add a codified list of things that could/couldn't be done on the wiki lest it jeopardise Kevan's ownership of the site and to make sure nothing we do takes it down. Conndraka used to be pretty big on it. -- 09:11, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
I'll add by saying that most of the stuff against the TOU was considered vandalism/misconduct before it was even created into a page, so you never really had much of an excuse anyway ;D -- 09:12, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

hey on the topic of de-escalations

just had an idea which might stop people like jed abusing the system forever while appeasing the people who think de-escalations have value: only allowing people a limited number of de-escalations (thinking between 3-5). y/n? Cyberbob  Talk  06:36, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

That's a good idea. I have a few ideas relating to that now so I'll give it some thought and add some more ideas later tonight. -- 06:39, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Personally, I'd just lengthen the time that they have to wait between de-escalations. Instead of 1 months (plus a certain number of edits), I'd bump it up to 6 months. Career vandals wouldn't be able to exist if they only got two de-escalations a year, but for people genuinely trying to reform, it'd give them a way to work it off over time. If you only allow a fixed number of de-escalations, eventually you'll start losing contributing members who get a warning every now and then (e.g. based on A/VD, we'd be close to or would have already lost both you and SA had the fixed-number system been in place from the start). Aichon 07:12, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
What makes you think that SA and I would have allowed ourselves to rack up so many escalations in the first place if we were only allowed a limited number of de-escalations? As for the people "genuinely trying to reform", that was the whole point of having warnings come before bans in the first place. I don't have much sympathy for people that would need more than 3-5 de-escalations (not to mention all the various degrees of bannage before the perma) to "genuinely reform". Cyberbob  Talk  08:43, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for showing your faith in me ich. Thanks a lot.-- ¯\(°_o)/¯ 11:10, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
I think he's going by pure numbers of escalations under the current system, which is dumb. Cyberbob  Talk  12:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
^+1-- ¯\(°_o)/¯ 12:24, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, well, clearly the point I was trying to make did not get communicated. Whatever. SA is dumb, and that point isn't important (if you really want to argue it, hit me up on IRC). In any case, if users could average, at most, one escalation every six months without getting banned, that means that unless they stuck around for a few years, it'd actually be more strict than using a fixed number, while also being more forgiving in the long-term. To me, that seems like a win-win, since it keeps reform while eliminating the possibility of career vandals. Aichon 12:52, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Or they could get the fucking message after however many chances we give them. You know, either-or. Cyberbob  Talk  13:13, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, they could, but then we'd call it a win-lose instead. I just don't see the need to throw the baby out with the bath water here. I mean, if your solution was the only way, I would definitely support it since it's an improvement over what we have. But from what I can see, there are other ways to curb vandalism, and not all of them sacrifice reform in the process. Aichon 13:29, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Who here actually needs more than 3 de-escalations? Misconduct ones don't count as an escalation for this purpose.-- ¯\(°_o)/¯ 13:32, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Sometimes I miss the simple things when I get caught up in the concept. I think SA just pointed out a simple thing that changes my mind. He's right. There really aren't people that would need that many, and reform should've taken place well before that if it was going to happen at all. As silly as it sounds after all that, I'm convinced. Aichon 12:08, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

And suddenly the power of sysops triples...xoxo 07:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

This is 2010 buddy, the "go against the sysops for the sake of it" culture went out in 2008 with Wan and Grim and the goons. -- 10:51, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
You don't think a policy such a this overpowers sysops by making vandalism that much worse? The current system works because if you are targeted by sysops or whatever a warning isn't really an issue coz you can work it off. Have you noticed how shoddy most vandalism decisions are? If something like this was brought in you'd want to make damn sure every ruling of vandalism was 100% deserved and maybe actually start bringing about some serious punishment for sysops who have no idea what they're doing and flippyflop around making rulings based on whos dick they're sucking at the time. Just a thought. xoxo 09:44, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
u mad? Cyberbob  Talk  10:20, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh my, having a talking to about bias in the sysop position by J3D really boggles my mind. Take Aichon's A/VD example and tell me how many users will have been disadvantaged by this, who didn't deserve it in the first place. -- 15:19, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
And it is an idiotic stance to back up anyway, sysops are put in the position under the assumption they can handle such buttons in a responsible way. Whether or not such users should have gained the position in the past is a totally different matter- but what you have is a case of a pretty unmerited persecution complex, which just tries to turn the aim of the policy away from stopping career vandals onto the topic of how the already working A/VB system can be misused by an overzealous sysop. It's a different issue entirely and, if it were even true, will have been a problem for years, not something to just bring up in this instance. -- 15:29, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Quick Question...

Could I get this page reverted back to its earliest form? I could probably do it myself, but seeing that you've put it up for A/SD, I thought I'd ask first... it could be expanded on, in it's original form anyway. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 00:48, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that's fine. I just stuck the A/SD tag up on it to categorise it, but I wasn't going to actually put it forward for a few days since he only wiped it half an hour ago. I fixed up his errors and reverted it for you. -- 00:53, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't realize that was what was happening.... you want a category for it? I'd be willing to adopt it to our groups category for a while... I just thought it was nice the way it was in the begining. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 01:00, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, nevermind, I was just trying to kill two birds with one stone because in either state (wiped or reverted) it was likely to be deleted within the month. Either way, the template wasn't necessary and I'm happy to keep it up if people are willing to expand on it a bit. -- 01:02, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

whoa, lrn2joke much :/ and besides what you just said means near nothing to me, because my point is if you have the time to bitch via talk pages of policy discussions you have time to go to A/VB first and help with week-old cases (which I never cycled cause I was the only dude to rule on them in the first place). I don't mind you not being here, I mind it more when you come here after 6 days and stir the few users editing seriously. If you have nothing to actually respond in relation to that, I don't actually care what you have to say. In fact, since the admin queues have been eliminated, I don't actually care about what you say regardless. Old(ish) convo is old(ish), but how well-received would a policy be stating that user talk pages can be governed by additional rules set by the owning user, which are treated with the same weight as any other rules, provided they don't contravene pre-existing rules? Hmm. Talk pages are just for communication and anything beyond what the wiki offers as a template for talk page communication (I'm talking about the "+") is a luxury in my opinion. It depends exactly what you want out of the policy, Mis, if it's regarding blatant annoying behaviour like Imthatguy above then it could have a chance but my immediate fear would be making a policy that is abusable by troublemakers. -- 14:32, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking myself. It'd probably need more clauses than would really be worthwhile in order to not make it work. Though I have an idea for something else similar that I just need to figure out how to phrase and I'll bring it to one of the discussion pages. Eyewitness

Hi DanceDanceRevolution,

I saw you were in the Krinks Power Station for a few days, before it fell earlier today. I was wondering what your impression was of what was going on in and outside the plant. My summary would be that it was a whole jelling about pretty much nothing. Both sides in the conflict are pretty small. I however do think it is sad the PhiloKnights felt the need to clear out the place.

--zyckde 18:44, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. I left seemingly moments before an apparent PK wipe-out and visited soon after, unfortunately. However in the days I spent there, it didn't seem like a particularly stressful conflict. I only saw one PKing by the PK while I was there. Althought it seems like I missed an important event there, too :( I don't blame the Philosophe Knights for doing what they did, because of a dry spell plenty of players in UD has been itching to join a 'battle' or a 'war' for at leased two years now, it's just a shame they more or less ruined the main point of the battle. -- 20:55, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Deletions

I'm sure there's not, but is there any way to recover deleted wiki pages? I ask because the Team Survivor pages which were recently deleted are cited in a zerg case and I rather suspect that that was why they wanted them deleted. --Papa Moloch 21:31, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

We can "undelete" pages, although undeleting pages that are requested by the author is probably more trouble than it's worth, although I could just copy the contents into a user subpage and note that it's just an unaltered copy of Team Survivor for reference purposes if that's fine? By the way, the page hasn't been deleted yet if you need to salvage the data. -- 22:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
Looks like it's been done already. Good luck with the case, etc. -- 22:12, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I already suggested he copy the data in case the pages are re-deleted, which the probably will be. Though remember, there was never a deletion request, just a vague sort of crit 7 scenario. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 22:17, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I still think the data will need to be copied over to another secure place sooner rather than later (I'll be happy to do it if you like) as it will most likely be deleted again. -- 22:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Drunk

So how do you think the next months going to play out, crat's wise? Boxys up for vote first, yes? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:22, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I am up for first vote, but Boxy has expressed (rather admirably) that he wants out too since he's been inactive. Although, as a big (and not secret) gay-for-boxy fan, I dislike he's going back down the ladder but it's the right thing to do so it makes me love him even more. Honestly? Probably Misanthropy and Aichon (as a surprise oooooh controversy tip) or you (if you go for it) tip too. But then again, if it ain't you three I'm tipping, who else is there in the comp? Krazy Monkey, SA, Karek and Nubis already proved that the "obligatory A/PM just before the A/BP election" works like a charm for sentimental popularity/respect which is why I'd shove Aichon on a high pedestal in the A/BP race, although that's assuming two spots are up. One spot for A/BP's election would leave me voting for Misanthropy, because he's been around here the most in the last month or so and that's always something I respect.
To be honest, a week ago I wanted to elect Yonnua for Op, so I'd have the pleasure of cycling his bid (assuming it went jolly) and then we'd have another good user in the race for op. That'd make things more fun for everyone, of course. -- 13:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
You're talking to the man who regularly voted for swiers for no real reason. My money's on Iscariot. But fresh blood, man. No doubt Giles will bid in a month or so, even the scary prospect of Poodle is on the horizon. I could always email Grim? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:40, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
I know this sounds like a egotistical/douchbaggy thing to say, but the day Boxy and I step down from Crat, Iscariot will have his best chance at asyaop yet, he knows it too. Not that that's bad, of course. If he gets in op then he can, I'll most likely always be against it but i'm more than happy to voice myself as a regular user in relation to him when the time comes. Giles? Perhaps, as a guy who has too many issues with him in personal opinion (I generally disagree with almost everything he's done since his meatpuppeting saga about Civility) I wouldn't support him but that doens't mean he couldn't get the job, though I think there's beter out there. Poodle's a no=no for me. He's a simple guy which is good, but he makes simple mistakes whichs hows he isn't in the wiki for the buttons/responsibility yet. A heap of his work on the wiki is for his group which is good, but it means he isn't in the wiki for the buttons/responsibility yet. Atm, I'm loving Aichon and Yonnua, Haliman always did alright stuff when he went on his short "become sysop!" streaks but they are infrequent and almost invisible. By the way, is ZPWiki back up at all? Every time I uploaded a new batch of images I fear I crashed it again... -- 13:47, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and I tried emailing grim to troll him about me getting crat (just to give him a brick wall to bash his head against about concernign the difrection of this wikis userbase) but he doesn't have a proper email address set up to it anymore, to avoid that exact thing, methinks =[ -- 13:52, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
ZPwiki was massively downgraded as a result of its move to a central forum/blog/wiki hub. I've stopped working on it until they fix it. 2 new areas about to be opened up though! --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:50, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh man, I promised to come back for that, can't wait! -- 18:38, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
If you ask me, if there's only one spot available, Ross has the 'crat position, hands down. SA is the only other 'op who would naturally pull in a lot of people, but he's been in-and-out and inactive enough recently that I doubt he'd get the support he has in the past. As you mentioned, I guess you could say I'm kinda the "darling" of the moment, and I suspect Iscariot nominated me with this exact timing for just that reason, so I might have a better shot right now than I normally would. That said, as with the sysop position, I'm not really looking for the 'crat position, so I'll be throwing my vote behind someone else, which will surely split some of the votes that would have otherwise gone to me. Plus, I'm new at this, and all it'll take is one newbie sysop mistake between now and the next BP for my image to be tarnished, which is not a problem in the long-run, but hurts my odds at a promotion in the short-term. Misanthropy is popular, and he's active and doing good work, so I could see him making it a good competition with Ross, and if there were two spots open, the second one certainly would be his, I think. Aichon 19:27, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

So much talk about me. Let's clear some things up, many moons ago I stated that I would only accept nominations from three users and I'm sticking to that. Goo luck getting any of them to nominate me :P Aichon was nominated to boost the numbers of active sysops and to prevent an unsuitable candidate getting the nod just because it may be perceived that we were low on ops, we're stuck with RedHawkOne due to a situation like that. Next crat? That's easy, it'll be Ross. After that if Boxy steps down in the next month or so I can almost guarantee Mis getting the second slot, longer than a month and it breaks into a three horse race depending on activity levels. Location Categorization

While demerging locations, I really can't help but notice that the location categories are a real mess (good luck trying to find what you're looking for here, for example). I'm thinking of possibly sub-categorizing these into suburb/district location pages, but at the same time worry it might defeat the point of demerging. Feedback?--~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 02:18, 29 March 2010 (BST)

Demerging creates individual pages, subcategories leave those pages intact but with easier divisions to follow. It's not defeating the point so much as following on pretty logically. It's a good idea, I think. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 02:23, 29 March 2010 (BST)
Yeah, I figured that it would be nice to have an individual page for each location, but at the same time have an easily cataloged way of finding it. Now the problem is creating and sorting 2400 or so new specific categories...

It made me inconsistent and subject to huge mood swings, all in all, I don't think any criticism of my work as an op went undeserved. Hey, could I ask for some help?

Everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood neonazi, cornholioo got pissed when I provided a plethora of facts proving his points on white supremacy (racist children say the danrdest things!) wrong, and when he told me off, I gave him some advice on how he could strengthen his points so that next time he presented them in an argument, he could appear more professional and less childish. He then proceeded to delete our conversation, which was a good half a page long.
I can understand his embarassment, but that doesn't mean he should hide a good half hour's debating work so that no one can review our professional, inteligent conversation and provide commentary just because he's afraid people will agree with me.
I know you happen to be a SysOp, and I'm wondering if you can help me out or give me advice on what to do. --Sean Connolly 04:19, 10 April 2010 (BST) Have a good one.

I be lurking. I took a look, and from what I see, your conversation occured on Cornholioo's talk page - which is his own property here, giving him final say in whether he wants to delete comments from it or not. Deleting comments from your own talk pages is not an act of vandalism. However, should you wish to preserve the comments, you can fish them out of the page history and copy-paste them on your own talk page to keep a record of them. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 04:24, 10 April 2010 (BST)
Misanthropy offered the same tips I was going to offer- unfortunately, Cornholioo has the right to delete anything he doesn't want, if it's on his talk page. Yes, it's immature, but it's his right, so naturally you have every right to copy and paste that exact conversation into your own talk page, with a notice saying it was taken from Cornholioo's page, and naturally there will be nothing he can do about it. -- 04:48, 10 April 2010 (BST)

It's to do with the wiki software. The "a" in that Kevan isn't really an "a", it's got a squiggly line over it, I think. It doesn't work with the software, so when you click the link, it takes you to User:Kevan instead.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:09, 25 April 2010 (BST)

It could be for the reason mentioned above but I'm not sure it is. Like Yonnua, I read about this beforehand on a talk page archive and I don't think it's the case of a wikighost, rather vandals manipulating wiki bugs in order to impersonate. I can't remember how this guy did it, it was long ago. When you make an account User:kevan, it automatically capitalises the first letter to User:Kevan, perhaps he did it that way via a bug, no idea. Same thing happened to A Helpful Little Gnome once, someone made a clone account and would vandalise pages with edit summaries that mimicked Protection summaries (since protections appear in the page history). It actually fooled some people for a bit and the vandalism didn't go changed :D Either way, The ops put it on the username black list so no one can make an account with kevan in it again >=) --

I was going to suggest that it was a result of unicode trickery (there were a number of those before Xoid and Kevan put the character whitelist into effect) but I'd forgotten about the capitalisation trick DDR mentioned. Cyberbob  Talk  01:32, 26 April 2010 (BST)

No. Because people don't know the alt it is of, obviously. Not only was it probably before Checkuser was on the wiki, it is obviously an alt because the achievement itself requires knowledge that a wiki user would need to have, not a newbie. That's the basis for it. -- 02:30, 27 April 2010 (BST)

Kevans Mistake

Ruin. Huge Mistake. Why? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:31, 7 May 2010 (BST)

Not ruin as much, it was a step in a good direction, however, cade blocking was the final nail in the coffin for actual battles, and lets face it, we'll always remember pre-2007 for the glory and the battles. Nothing since then has really happened, mostly because, imo, the game has become much more individualised and focussed on the smaller conflicts and grinds inside the game: it isn't about defending the survivor stronghold mall. It wasn't just cade blocking that did this, FAK-nerfing also did a bit. But in the end the main thing I'll always remember about UD is that within hours of the cade blocking being introduced, the 3 week long battle of pitneybank was lost and the game was never the same again. Dark buildings was great, but in a holistic way it only strengthened an "alternative" side of the game, PKing, which would only ever be spurred on en masse by two things: rules that sanction/buff PKing, and general boredom with the status quo of the game (which is what turned me to PKing). Kevan did the first bit deliberately with dark buildings, and is inadvertently encouraging the second motive by not forcing big changes in UD.
The facts are: the numbers are dwindling. No iconic battles or conflicts are happening besides the incredibly mediocre Battle of Krinks, which, since it was the only interesting roleplaying battle established via wiki in over two years, everyone, more famously PK dropped any moral about decent combat initiative and just barged into the battle to join in the fun as much as possible. Kevan hasn't made a proper change to the game since, I don't know, cade blocking (imo?) and it's needed a few big changes since... It needs updates, it needs more fun (not just totally fair) balance for both sides but mainly zombies. Back on track (slightly drunk, :|), when I say he changed the game (and imo I mean for the worse) was when he added things like cade-blocking, where a) it became impossible for a band of unco-ordinated survivors to take on a horde the same size as them (I mean battle-wise), so they all spread out. Since any large zombie horde could annihilate anything within 48 hours, they were forced to spread out into smalled sub-groups too, and in turn the entire game became about survival tactics rather than "one for all" sticking into a square/mall for the best, and knowing there was a good chance that the sleiged mall would still be up (and you still alive) by the time you logged in the same time next day. I think the changes have eliminated mid-way points between a battle. It used to be "break in! cade! kill! dump! and repeat!" until the zombies eventually got in and killed, or moved on. Now it's either Survivors are definitely at a win from the start because of numbers, or Zombies definitely win within a 30 minute strike, conflict over. Nothing that could ever amount to a battle, because it's less about tactics and more about sheer numbers.
Personally, the changes are good, given the right game balance, and I can't remember having any more fun than the break-neck survival we had to engage in when the March of the Dead thing happened but that was anomaly in an otherwise unfair and boring game because the numbers just aren't right. It's the same as Face of Mankind. Once there is no balance in the game and the (non-meta gaming) survivors are perpetually in control of a majority of the map, the game gets boring for the regular guy. Going to a hot-zone as an individual ends up in certain fail, everywhere other than that is boring, and the only fun you have is PKing random people who you know will always retaliate no matter what. A majority of zombie groups can't cut it because even a group of 30 can't affect a well-established suburb in the slightest so it's just a pain in the dick. Please not that I've been drinking so about all of this won't make sense. sorry.
long story short this time I promise: no meta, no battles= bad. we haven't had a battle since cade blocking which was established by Kevan when he was a zombie in the 3 week long battle Battle of Pitneybank. That's the correlation which sticks with me. -- 14:04, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Wow. Power drunk! I agree entirely about the march of the dead. Running an independent character, dying 3 days out of every 4, following even the rumour of a powered NT, sharing intel from scores of groups like a massive game of chinese whispers was the zombpocalypse. Even their idiot playing style was perfectly in genre. As for zombie groups, some of us can effect suburbs, but i feel the current balance is what draws people to the perma death maps. There are important results to your actions. But hey, Kevan stated last week he was doing a major update, and they're normally on saturdays, and with the entire country uncontrolled, what else is he going to do? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:14, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Never know WHAT that crazy man will come up with. Although I still think catfishing is his best game. -- 16:24, 7 May 2010 (BST)
As a quick aside, the Knights did have a reason for getting involved in the Battle of Krinks (recall that it wasn't actually a big drama magnet until we got involved): they were all ignorant. We hadn't seen a larger display of ignorance in a long time, so we responded in force to educate them all. It was only later that it became a well-known event. Prior to our involvement, it was just a small scale scuffle between dumb and dumber. IV PK
I agree mostly with you, cade-blocking pretty much killed siege play altogether, which is a shame, because those sieges are were definitively the highlights of urbandead. Sadly, nowadays most real conflicts revolve around PK battle's rather than actual zombie ones. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 21:30, 7 May 2010 (BST)
I had proposed a slight fix to cade blocking in Developing Suggestions that met with mild support. I'd take it to voting, but I want more input on the idea. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 22:55, 7 May 2010 (BST)
The suggestions system is ineffectual as an actual review system because I still reckon Kevan hasn't read it for a long time. He's been doing his own thaying now for so long that it just makes me think he's ditched the idea of suggestions and just does what he thinks is right for the game. Which is fine, but the game just not as epic as it used to be. -- 03:18, 8 May 2010 (BST)
I dont feel the suggestion system is ineffectual, just the voting system. Kevans implmented loads of suggestions that didnt make peer review. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:46, 9 May 2010 (BST)
You make some good points. It is still possible to have sieges with feral zombies and medium sized survivors groups, which probably reflects accurately on the genre. The organized hordes in UD are a type of telepathic, highly coordinated zombie that is particular to this game, and frankly should be able to smash through almost any survivor resistance. The game needs more feral zeds, spread throughout the map, to provide a more balanced challenge. Without this I too fear the game will degenerate into a survivor PKing game with a little zombie flavor.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 12:17, 8 May 2010 (BST)

NPOV

So apparently I do not know what non-point of view is. Can you please define to me what NPOV is exactly? I figured that a statement of fact is indeed NPOV, regardless of the subject matter. If I made a group whose sole goal was to kill babies, and I put "Wants to kill your babies" as a description for the group on the wiki, would that get banned as non-neutral garbage? Now, if I said "Wants to kill your babies because you're all douchebags," that I can see being POV and being subsequently banned. But a simple statement of fact, such as "They are waiting to add you to their list" isn't insulting or derogatory - it's simply what a group is waiting to do! Humor and wittiness are what makes this game fun, as the game itself is actually quite boring. All I'm really asking, I guess, is for you to tell me what exactly is wrong with stating a fact in a NPOV section, specifically here. Now I can see Dalton Riggs's statement "to hell with your list" being very biased and full of POV, but I think that the other two statements, mine and Cobra's, have nothing wrong with them. Simply because Eagle of Fire gets his panties in a wad when I tell him I'm going to kill him in-game doesn't mean that he should be given free reign to delete our posts, which incidentally have been there for months, and in the case of Cobra, years. Please use your all-knowing-unbiased-administrative-wisdom in this situation, as (with all wiki-edit discrepancies) I find it fuelled by absurdity. --alevins 05:44, 21 May 2010 (BST)

Wah! More panties bunching up -- boxy talkteh rulz 06:41 21 May 2010 (BST)
Honestly, I'd delete the whole section. NPOV isn't just about making factual statements, but about being fair with which facts are shared, where the emphasis is placed relative to what other topics are covered, and a whole lot of other matters. There are already group listings on every single suburb page, so anything more than that effectively amounts to group advertisements, and we have a page for that already. Plus, while I haven't checked yet, I'm willing to bet that a lot of the groups listed there aren't even active any longer, since they weren't cleaned up along with the Great Suburb Group Massacre. Long story short, practically everything about that section is POV. Aichon 06:51, 21 May 2010 (BST)
Those sections are supposed to be tongue in cheek "tourist info" type sections, where people can be a bit creative about what makes their suburb "special". Unfortunately some of the more "special" members of the community think that it's a good place to advertise their super cool groups, and how badass they are.
If you're not putting things that tourists may be interested in, then keep out of that section -- boxy talkteh rulz 06:56 21 May 2010 (BST)
I'm not sure I can bring myself to address every point you posted here, since I'm tired at the moment, and two administrators have already seemingly backed up my position. However, I'll clear some things up.
Firstly, I never said or even insinuated that you didn't know what POV or NPOV meant. Similarly, I won't be attempting to explain it for you, not just because of that but also because I don't have a blind, black and white opinion of POV, and if I did, it would be as what the Wiki states, but since it doesn't, I treat everything on a case-by-case basis.
You seem to be arguing with the notion that it's okay to have your entries there because there are similar posts like that on Yagoton and other suburb posts. You paraphrased that in your edit summary which you linked above, and as I explained in mine, that's why your edit was reverted. You say there's "nothing wrong" with Cobra and CT's entries, but you also assert that there's similar content out there and that's why the posts shouldn't be removed. I personally disagree, as, I explained, IMO the "war against POV" isn't solved by just keeping everything equal POV. It's by removing everything that is POV or changing it so it is NPOV. Since neither of us (or 99% of the wiki for that matter) involved in this metaphorical war, removing/changing everything isn't a goal but it sure is a long-term goal of the wiki to remove outdated and POV stuff on suburb pages, which is why I don't agree with your reasoning behind your edits. The length they've been up there is also irrelevant.
If you want a short answer from me over what should specifically be on the tourist section- it essentially mirrors Boxy's sentiment- that section is for roleplaying tourist attractions and I don't think 'get killed by X' is anything of the sort. Similarly, without sounding patronising, honestly, I think your groups are a bit better than squabbling over such a trivial recruitment/attention device. There are more than enough areas in a suburb page to cram subtle group references. I'd just suggest making this one a little more fitting. -- 10:34, 21 May 2010 (BST)
My problem wasn't with the removal of out posts, it was with the removal of our posts and the let continue of the Abandoned and Human Unity Revolution's posts - what seemed like anti-PK bias to me, anyways. Thanks to Boxy for enforcing the "war against POV" blindly without bias. --alevins 16:16, 21 May 2010 (BST)
You're going to have to re-iterate what you mean by "posts", because to me posts means news reports and I didn't remove any of those. I simply reverted your edit because it was wrong in the pov context, if you see POV happening feel free to take it off. -- 03:16, 22 May 2010 (BST)
