Feeding the troll

Don't do it. And you know who it is. -- Spiderzed 01:45, 10 October 2010 (BST)

Sigh. I'm easily trollable, I know. Sorry girl, I can't help it, not my style to ignore people -_-
I know him? --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD
Oi! You're feeding it too! :P --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 16:50, 10 October 2010 (BST)
No, I'm asking it (the barcode thingy) to come and help me. HB can always use a lower bounty, so it should stop dilly-dallying with you and start serving me instead! -- Spiderzed 16:56, 10 October 2010 (BST)
Booo but I could use their bounty points, for the BHer leaderboard when we get it... why can they help you and not help me?!? Heh, no but really, you know they'll just make up an excuse for not finding you, which will take another long-winded post to keep the thread going. See this is why I wanted licence to shoot them instead. Nothing quite as short and to the point as a gentle headshot :) --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 17:22, 10 October 2010 (BST)
I have most deaths of all participants. I don't wanna hear any complaints that I'm "hard to find". (But on the bright side, I also have most kills along with Zippo - and I'll work hard on not granting him that title :D ) -- Spiderzed 17:47, 10 October 2010 (BST)

UDWitness w/ Chrome

Yeah, UDWitness requires a referrer. Chrome doesn't send one. It's actually quite ridiculous that it doesn't, seeing as how it's a W3C standards requirement. Anyhow, I'm willing to bet I will just cave and remove that part altogether. -   HaliphaxTCS 14:26, 19 October 2010 (BST)

Actually, I consider Chrome's behaviour correct, and FF et al to be rather iffy. The request to oddnetwork.org does not originate from any document fetched from urbandead.com, but instead from a brand new document created by window.open() and document.write(). And the script that caused this to happen isn't part of the urbandead.com document either. So I don't see why the newly created document should inherit an urbandead.com base URI. I don't think Chrome should change its behaviour here, and I don't expect it will any time soon.
Anyroad, I wrote an UDwitness extension for Chrome, bell me if you feel like trying it. It works, and it looks cute, with it's address-bar icon and stuff.
That said, I've stopped using UDwitness altogether, I'm afraid, the silly long URLs and now this finally did it for me :/ I only use dumbwit these days. Now if only that bloody thing would handle Unicode properly... heh. --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 19:33, 19 October 2010 (BST)
Too lazy for the bit.ly shortener? ;P Anyhow, I see your point about the referrer behavior with Chrome. Honestly, without any server-side intervention from Kevan, there's no way to verify that anything submitted is valid. I'm no fan of security by obscurity, so I'll most likely remove the referrer check altogether in the near future. -   HaliphaxTCS 21:12, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Yup, there's no way. I think iwit and dumbwit do some sort of validation on the actual content submitted. But that's a double-edged sword: being too strict with that may refuse screenies from people running the most intrusive add-ons (UDwidget and such).
Heh. I don't quite like shorteners. No way of telling where it's going to send you to. I don't think I'd click on a bit.ly posted by some random person I don't know... and probably even less on ones from people I know too well. Yeah I'm looking at you, Kemps :P --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 00:45, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

News from George Zip

Hey, it's me. We crossed paths awhile ago, and I'm proud to say that, through my various avatars, I've been tearing down or building up various parts of Malton pretty regularly. I think I'm even going to try another Escape next year, since we had so much fun this last June.

The reason I've come to you is that I'm in the need for a spot of advice, since I'm trying to set up a website (specifically a webcomic) and it's going to have a forum, dammit. I want to use simplemachines, since I've been using that alot from the receiving end and it's been good to me. What I need to know is, What files do I need to load onto the server to make this work? Feel free to direct me to another website if somebody's already got a writeup on this. Maybe the guy with the cartoon foxes and the chunky bacon? I dunno. -Captain Video 06:50, 22 October 2010 (BST)

Heey you.. wait what? "We crossed paths?" Stop pulling my leg and gimme a big hug, you plonker. This techie talk is best done in the DSS forum, though, see ya there. --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 20:27, 23 October 2010 (BST)

Red Army stuff

In case you missed it, I set up a hidden and password protected forum for the Red Army for communication on Organization XIII's forums (Link to sub-board here). Again, the board won't show up until either me or Yon adjusts your settings to view the board, so PM me or Yon (Yon is rayepenber on the forum) for settings adjustment and the password for the Red Army's sub-board. (Although I'm assuming you're jules...If so, I'll adjust those settings right away!) --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 18:43, 23 October 2010 (BST)

Oddness with Chrome.

Hi there Sophie. As suggested on the DSS phone, taking my info over here for you to peruse.

Every time I restart Google Chrome, the DSS phone comes up as "unactivated" and I have to reactivate every time.

This has occured on my work PC, my laptop at home and my main home PC.

Work PC : Windows Vista 32Bit with Google Chrome 7.0.517.41

Home Laptop : Windows 7 32Bit with Google Chrome 8.0

Home PC : Windows 7 64bit with Google Chrome 8.0

To answer your questions from before :

  • Make sure you are running the Chrome extension, not the Greasemonkey script (see wiki page).

I don't use Greasemonkey (I don't like it) and am using the pure Chrome extension.

  • Check you allow pages to store local data: Preferences -> Under the Bonnet -> Content Settings -> Allow local data to be set

Checked and verified this setting is in place.

  • Don't run this in incognito. If there's a chance you installed the phone from an incognito window, uninstall and reinstall.

Porn mode? :) I don't use it. I *want* my history saved, less typing to get to pages later.

So...anything I can try? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Icehawg (talkcontribs) 2010-10-25T13:44:39.

I'm working on this dude. It may be the Chrome version, as I write and test for Chrome 7, 'cause 8 isn't ready for my platform yet it seems. I'm looking for a way to test it on Chrome 8. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, will keep you posted. —Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 18:00, 26 October 2010 (BST)
No problem. Just as an FYI, I just had to re-activate without shutting down Chrome in between. I used the phone, hopped around to a mall then back to my location, logged out. Logged back in to phone someone with some info and it was at the activate screen. Weirdness indeed.--The Tall Cool One 18:03, 29 October 2010 (BST)

Sorted, cheers Axe. Bugger, hadn't been there in a while. I'm not too active right now, is the thing, moving this week :S --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 00:35, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Cool. Hows the thing developing? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:18, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Currently still deciding whether I should bother with fine grids or just bite the bullet and implement proper polygon geometry for maps and locations and movement, which may be a bit hairy but would neatly solve problems with ranged combat, lighting and visibility, and route plotting. Also deciding whether one should just "die" or "die from multiple gunshots to the chest and stomach and resulting exsanguination and hypoxia caused by pneumothorax, heart failure and brain damage". You know, for colour.
But it's hard to think of all this when the bloody airline mixes up your connection on the other side of the pond >: --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 19:33, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey, it's George Video. Could you drop back by the forum? I have a proposition. -Captain Video 23:09, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

First off, the email I use is of course a diversionary account. Its always wise to have one. Thats RL advice, lady. The only favor you will get from me today.

So, you get a counter offer. And it will be my first, last, and only counter offer. Honestly, thats not usually how we roll. Especially for a bunch of brit talkin' PKers. But, whatever.

You guys get two choices. Either the killin' continues or the killing stops. You have seen our crew, read our wiki. You say you have a better idea about who we are. Great. Well we don't have friends who are enemies. And we don't have enemies who are friends. DSS S2, and DSS in general can be friends, or they can be enemies. TZH is going to roll with it either way. Because you have attempted to be reasonable now, I am willing to forget the insults and bullshittery on your end (recall your responses to my extremely reasonable first post on the DSS webpage) to what was my first (and usually my only) attempt at diplomacy.

If the killin stops, we would be willing to consider the DSS friends. Like all of our friends, you get healing, revives, and safe houses at any of our HQ's. You also get the option of true alliance, in which we make your enemies our enemies when they are within our territory, and upon Whalberg's approval outside of our territory. We would let members of TZH know to back off by radio, forum, in game chat, and email if necessary. Being friends me no killing. You don't kill TZH members, we don't kill DSS members or DSS S2 members.

On the other hand, you can continue whatever it is you're doing. You can spout all you want about the kill ratio, but considering we are 10 times your number, and haven't made any attempt to hide, it makes sense that you are getting more kills. Oh, and our members have a very few select buildings they are in. So they aren't hard to find. We also have an AP pool 10 times the size of yours with a fantastic revive network, which makes your kills against us minimal in impact (in game at least). Oh, and while we are earning a valuable reputation in Buttonville, you are getting labled as PKers, and Papa reports that several people have made you KOS. So thats fun.

If you are our friends, you get treated with respect, like we treat all of our friends. If you are our enemies, you get treated like the pieces of shit you must be, otherwise you wouldn't be enemies! And you can then tell it to my nuts.

So, uh... your choice I guess. Glad you liked the wiki. BALLS TO THE MOTHERFUCKING WHALLS! <- Thats as "lightened up" as I get --Dhavid Grohl 03:54, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

No Sophie. You didn't try. You and your snob ass brit buddies did anything but try when I was civil to you. Civil to you after YOU started this. Remember that pus guzzler. YOU started this. TZH don't owe you shit. We aren't going to play this game with you. You're a sideshow, a distraction. Two characters, out of the (literally) hundreds that we hunt. Our characters have reported your whereabouts to other members no less than 14 times. 14 times we have found you, and 14 times we have killed someone else instead of you. Have fun with your count, and your screenies. You're absolutely hilarious, and I can always use the laughs. While you're doing your little routine, feel free to tell it to my taint. You'll find it right next to my balls, BALLS TO THE WHALLS!!! And remember, have fun, its a game! --Dhavid Grohl 05:19, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey, um...Sophie. While we're on this topic, this requires your urgent attention. Dave, you might want to look at it also since it involves you. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 05:21, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Meant to say, cheers for that Axe, most appreciated, you keeping an eye on the ball <3
Dave... blimey, really, fourteen times! And you've done bog all about it! You're like the Gandhi of Malton, peaceful resistance and all that :D Truly commendable, old chap :P Yup, I'll have fun with my count and my wee screenies, thank you! And I'm glad they're such a crack for you too, 'cause aye, it sounds like you can use the laughs. Luv to ya! --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 00:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Jesus H. This becomes a bigger and bigger waste of my time by the second. By the second I say! Sophie, I'm not angry. I haven't cared enough about this game to be angry since 2008. I didn't think anyone playing this game has cared enough since then. I am serious, it is a genuine shock to me that you still care. If you wonder why I curse, and yell, and whatever I will refer you to the Chapelle Show skit about "Samuel Jackson's Lager" in which a bystander asks Samuel Jackson why he is yelling. He responds "I'm not yelling, this is just how I talk!" (all the while yelling). Thats sort of what is happening here. You are making an ass out of yourself, and me by assuming that I am angry... when really, this is just how I talk. In this game at least. Now, take all of your meta garbage, and blow it directly out of your ass. ROCK AND ROHL! --Dhavid Grohl 05:51, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
...See, now this is something you all could be settling in some future Malton Manhunt events, even if they are for the fun. ;) --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 05:53, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh man, I'd love that, but Dave here is a right herbert, he just won't party :D
Heh, no but really, cheers Dave, for explaining this to me. Frightfully sorry for assuming too much, I get it now :) --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 00:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
... and actually, I just pinned it down, you know who remind me of, Dave? Not Sam L. Jackson, no, I'm afraid, but Kevin Kline in Wanda. Complete with the Brit bitterness! I can just picture you: "You asshole! You stupid, stiff, pompous, English...!" :D --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 02:10, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Replied to your email. Never saw Wanda. Don't hate the Brits. Bloody hell and what what. Just hate British snobs. Now, if you're implying there isn't another kind of Brit, thats on your head. --Dhavid Grohl 05:29, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Yup, replied to your reply at last, thank you so much, Dave. Sorry for the delay, again--busy like a squirrel on crack here. That's "A fish called Wanda", 80s comedy with John Cleese and Michael Palin, and Kevin Kline and Jamie Lee Curtis. Highly recommendable, check it out one day, you might get a crack at me likening you to Otto... sorry sorry :")
Oh hey, for people following this, if any: we're cool now, nothing to see here, move along. Balls to the whalls, even :P --Sophie ◆◆◆ CAPD 05:39, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
