Not sure about that, the drama peaked around the whole Grim coup saga and has been steadily decreasing since. I've returned/lurked occasionally since I left, and it's become - and stayed - a lot less dramatic (which is good.) On an unrelated note, love reading my comments from three years ago. I had a question.

Well this User:Grimblackreeper has a talk page, but no user page. It was recently made, I think February, and there's no log of deletion for the User Page. Here is the page I stumbled on, and I was wondering what to do with it, put it up for speedy delete, or what cause of action should be followed?

Oh and another question, do you know how to configure an auto update for the UDTool? I'm really stumped and can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated Link, thanks. -- Denver  5MoC 06:39, 7 April 2009 (BST)

As for the user talk page, it doesn't really matter. Quite a few users have a {{WN}} posted on their user talk page, even when they don't have a user page. So, just leave it for now :).
I've done autoupdatable lists before. They aren't easy to do, but if you've got a large group, then they will save you some time.
You could try having a look at the zerg list (I stole my code of them,) and trying to figure it out that way.
I don't really have the time now for a detailed guide, but if you've got any specific questions, fire away. Linkthewindow  Talk  10:21, 7 April 2009 (BST)
Yeah, I can't really think of any I'm just hammering away at it. Oh, I can't seem to get the Text Rapist auto update to work on the FANNY/Ignore List. I already have the zerg liste auto update, but the ignore list isn't working for me. Does it work for you?
On a side note, I saw that you did the wiki info on Kevan's April Fools joke, do you need more screen shots of different location? Since I was in a Train Station and I took and iwitness here. Completely random, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. -- Denver  5MoC 17:19, 8 April 2009 (BST)
The Ignore List doesn't have an autoupdater, but it doesn't usually get updated the amount the Zerg Liste does.
Oh, and I'll throw that on the April Fools page when I'm less tired. It would be nice to have one from each location. Linkthewindow  Talk  08:24, 9 April 2009 (BST)
Yes it does at, the bottom underneath the "UDTool List" heading it says,"To have UDTool automatically update this list, include the following code in your UDTool list" and then it gives you a code, which I can't seem for the life of me to get to work. I just have it all working manually, I think I'm gonna keep it that way for now. :P -- Denver  5MoC 16:19, 9 April 2009 (BST)

So far my post has been removed, I've been reported for vandalism (which nobody bothered to tell me about), I've been warned and now the warning has been retracted. My question is did you interpret it as a joke, which was how it was intended, and if so do you have any issue if I undo the removal? Redundant Disclaimer

I've been looking at my archived promotion bid here, and the disclaimer bothers me.

It asks that the page not be edited, yet surely the fact that these bids are Protected from editing shortly after being created (and thus, impossible to be edited by anyone other than SysOps) shows that this disclaimer is not overly necessary.

As the SysOps are the only ones with the power, wouldn't it make more sense to warn them during the archival process? Granted, the disclaimer in its current state does not harm the wiki in any way, however anything which makes the matter clearer wouldn't hurt either, and would be an improvement.

If there is any reason why the disclaimer is the way that it is that I may have missed, then I would be glad to hear it. I'm just wondering why the page warns against doing something that is impossible.

I was thinking about taking this to Policy Discussion, but I thought I'd ask a current SysOp and see if I can get some answers before I pursue the 'official' path of inquiry. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 11:31, 19 June 2009 (BST)

I've got no idea - it was created before the history purge - it's old, and perhaps predates when sysops realize that they could protect things?
Ether way, there can occasionally be quite a gap between the actual archiving of the page (often done by a regular user,) and the protection (done when a sysop realizes it needs protection.) That's probably why the template is worded the way it is. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:35, 19 June 2009 (BST)
I may be off the mark cause I've had a few beers, but firstly, as Link. Secondly, Sysop's don't need to be warned not to edit protected archives because its common knowledge, knowledge that a sysop would have to know, had they made the position. Even the dumbest sysop would know that protected archives are done so for a reason. No point making a template for a public archive warning sysops not to protect it, and on one else. Just last week I went and protected archives arbitration cases from 2 or 3 years ago that sysops hadn't protected. Just an example of how things can be missed. Warning sysops not to *edit it, sorry. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 12:35, 1 July 2009 (BST)

Oh, OK then. I just bugged me, as all. I wasn't aware regular users were permitted to archive promotion bids. I thought that, being an admin page, that SysOps were only permitted to do it. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 01:28, 20 June 2009 (BST)

RE: Edit to the Danger Building page

Allow me to thank you for the welcome and I can assure you that these danger reports will serve their purpose in time with a helpful project that I am in the mere first stages of (well more of a prototype than a project).

In response to your initial question, there are two reasons that I removed the information:

  • Firstly, was that the group Black Mesa has not existed on the wiki for sometime.
  • Secondly and most importantly,I was under the impression that UDWiki:Location Style Guide was applicable for all location pages.

I understand your concerns and respect your authority on these matters, however, I would like a second opinion on this subject or a link to a page that supports what you have previously stated. This request is not made from any contempt for you or the rules, it is just that I am now confused with local editing practices. I will gladly halt the editing of the Urban Dead wiki until this matter is clarified (so as not to make the same mistake twice).--Matthew Kuper 15:20, 20 June 2009 (BST)

I see your points. But, what if a two groups are trying to claim the same location as their own? Or, a groups location page conflicts with role play flavor of that location (i.e. The Danger Family). Are group locations first come first serve or a messy free-for-all? I guess I have questions of group/location legitimacy issues rather than humor issues (of which I completely understand).
Perhaps an easy solution would be to create The Danger Family as trenchies.
I would like to thank you for all your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matthew Kuper (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Listen You

I'm going to tell you the same thing I've told Boxy and everyone else: Leave me the hell alone. I'm not causing you or anyone else any grief, so why must you always hunt me down like a worthless animal? Its not fair, I was always unjustly banned by Grim and even now that he's been proven a fascist freak like I always pointed out, I'm still here having to sneak on using a multitude of socks just to update my group page. Its pissing me off and if I'm going to continue to be treated like a vandal, then a vandal is what you'll get. Leave me alone and you won't even notice me. Its obvious by now you can't stop me anyway. And Suicidal Angel promised he'd take action to make this right. Can't I be given a fair chance, especially now that Grim's judgement has been proven unsound?

I await a REPLY, not a banning. If you have any honor you'll at least give me that much. Angelfood Cake 03:03, 5 July 2009 (BST)

Boxy said:
As I said here, "Izumi has always been a "real" vandal, editing group pages, other people's posts, even after plenty of warnings, and then comes back after the ban and does the exact same thing again, and when she gets done for it, as she had to, she starts spamming the forum with dozens of alt accounts. She's not someone who we want back, given that the first bloody thing she did was vandalise the wiki again with throw away accounts. Don't encourage her, FFS"

And if you're here to whine about Grim - I'm one of the few post-Grim sysops, so there's not much point. Linkthewindow  Talk  03:19, 5 July 2009 (BST)

You're also one of the post Izumi users, so you don't know the entire story. I'm serious when I say this, it wasn't all her fault. It was also part of the past ops team the way she turned out.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 03:55, 5 July 2009 (BST)
Are you going to talk to me, person to person, or simply ignore me? Have some decency. If you agree I promise to to edit any other area than your talk page until you hear me out, then you can ban me if you still feel its necessary. Can you please hear me out? Celestial Runeseeker 05:19, 5 July 2009 (BST)
If you're serious about having an audience with a sysop, email SA or another sysop who you think may be fair (not me since I hardly know the full story and am simply doing my responsibility under policy.) Don't spam the wiki up with over 9000 alt accounts and troll people. It's hardly helping your case. Linkthewindow  Talk  05:41, 5 July 2009 (BST)

She wouldn't have nearly as much reason to be mad at the admin team if the past team had acted maturely and in a more correct manner. She's tried emailing me, seeing as I'm one of the older users who actually knows whats going on, but the attempts I made failed because everyone just blindly seemed to want to follow boxy's opinion on the matter. But that was way before this latest spree. I kept trying, but it's hard to work with someone who loses it too easily and starts pulling this shit. I really don't have the time or patience to deal with this anymore. About the best that can happen is Izumi either stops trying to come back, or she waits and makes an account with the same name as one of her team members and uses it. We can't just outright ban all of the Valkyries under the suspicion that it may be Izumi, but I doubt she's going to be patient enough to do that.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 01:21, 6 July 2009 (BST)
Angel, you don't understand. I didn't want to do it this way either. But I've been waiting for nearly 3 years. I couldn't sit idle anymore. So I tried emailing Boxy. Here's his reply: "I'm sure you actually believe that you're the one being reasonable in all this. Now stop emailing me, and go annoy someone who actually thinks you are worth having back on the wiki. Surely one of them has their email link activated on the wiki." Martyr 01:29, 6 July 2009 (BST)
You know boxy isn't going to make a move to work with you. You know that. But now you have to know that yet again you created multiple harassive accounts instead of working with me to push the idea of you coming back. I tried to help you yet again last time, what happens? You up and disappear. I can't help you if you won't talk, and you've shown me time and time again the moment you get banned you bring out the sock machine. You keep asking for help, yet you keep doing these things that show that you don't care about the consequences. I can't help you if you're going to keep this shit up. "Linkthedildo"? Was that even fucking necessary? You didn't have to do that. I absolutely can not and will not help you because you have shown me time and time again that there is no point, because you can't simply keep from jumping in hot. You think you're not going to be banned by the people who are just following rules when you blatantly broadcast who you are? You think being antagonistic yet again is going to help? No, it's you who doesn't understand. Most of us could tolerate giving a former vandal a chance to redeem themselves, but few of us will freely give that chance to people who are still committing vandalism. Fucking with Bob's page? Sure he's a dick. But that's still vandalism and you know it. There is nothing any of us can do when you're clearly vandalizing, and to be frank none of us really want to help anymore.
Also, before you start claiming how we're all assholes and just want to hunt you down, remember that I've tried to help you on multiple occasions. Remember that quite a few users are just trying to follow the rules the best they can in a situation where they can't know everything due to a history purge. Remember that some of those that are in the know have tried to refer you to the right people. Izumi, you fucked up again. Follow my god damn advice for once and stop with the alts. They're doing nothing but digging your hole deeper and you know it.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 01:55, 6 July 2009 (BST)
"You know boxy isn't going to make a move to work with you."
Quite the contrary. I made many polite and helpful emails to her over the years, 3 of them in the past few days telling her what she needed to do to get back, before finally sending her one telling her to stop emailing me, long after it became clear that she was just going to continue demanding to be let back her way -- boxy talkteh rulz 03:19 6 July 2009 (BST)
And I had no idea that you've done so. What I said was based off of what I knew and/or remembered, most of that came from her, and all she's ever said is how little you were trying to help her. I apologize Mr. bawxman.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 03:38, 6 July 2009 (BST)
S'ok, I was pretty sure she'd be quoting my email out of context sooner or later, because she threatened to post that bit in her last email to me -- boxy talkteh rulz 03:50 6 July 2009 (BST)
'Scuse me, but if I may interject...and I'm going to anyway, Boxy, you should be ashamed. You did not oh-so-helpfully give me pointers as you claim to have done in your above statement. You told me to find another sysop to help me, which I have done, after of course scolding me for making alts. Then you told me to stop emailing you. Here's the conversation in its entirety:

I'm sure you actually believe that you're the one being reasonable in all this.

Now stop emailing me, and go annoy someone who actually thinks you are worth having back on the wiki. Surely one of them has their email link activated on the wiki.

Well honestly I've never had to throw one before. Usually people listen to reason, not arbitrary bureaucratic nonsense. At any rate how am I supposed to motivate the community to do anything if I cannot even speak with them? Can't I have some sort of account that is limited to a talk page, or something? That way I could at least speak with SuicidalAngel.

I've told you how to go about it. It's not up to me, but the community. That's if anyone is even willing to put their arse on the line to start a policy discussion on your behalf, after the shit you continually pull.

What I'm referring to is that before Grim even got involved, I had an email discussion with you and clearly warned you of the consequences of continued vandalism. You ignored that, instead choosing to use a sock puppet to avoid my short (48hr) ban.

You keep saying you'll change, but your actions speak louder than your words, which have become worthless, to me.

I don't see to what you are referring, "being reasonable with me". Using socks is the only option I've ever had, and that's to simply be heard, not to get away with anything else. Whatever "threats" I may have made, you and I both know I can't truly accomplish anything of meaning using sockpuppets alone. My only intention always has been to convince the community I'm not a threat. My frustration pushes me in other directions at times, but I assure you I only want to come back so I can update the Lockettside Valkyries and Lockettside suburb pages when necessary. You are a sysop. The "options" you speak of are illusions. You are one of a few with any real authority, if you used it to do what is right here I doubt anyone would complain. In fact, in my experience onlyyou and cyberbob ever had any real problem with me, other than of course Grim, and we all see now how much his opinions mean.

I tried being reasonable with you 2 years ago, and all you did was come back to the wiki and commit exactly the same type of vandalism again, and then go on your sock puppet spree when caught.

Threatening to constantly vandalise the wiki to make us forget your past isn't going to get me to let you back. If someone make a policy discussion asking for you to be allowed back, and the community shows that they are prepared to give you another chance, then I will respect that, otherwise I have no option but to enforce current policy.

You're right. I have screwed up. Its just so frustrating...you can't possibly understand. You have to know that I'm honestly trying to do the right thing. All I want is for all this bad stuff to go away but its so hard...few people have been willing to listen to me from the beginning...I sent emails to countless people, sysops that don't even exist anymore...Hagnat, Karek...just to name a few. Most wouldn't even reply. I've been trying to find the right way to go about this...but I lose my temper and do stupid shit, and wind up back at square one. No, Linkthedildo was not necessary. But when someone is ignoring your pleas for help and continually swinging the banhammer...even if they are simply following protocol...it gets annoying ya know? I just want to know what I can do to make this go away. I waited for you last time like you said, but nothing happened. I can't wait forever...Martyr 02:04, 6 July 2009 (BST)
Karek is probably the one of the best sysops we've ever had. The biggest problem he had with your situation is that you'd create socks that were vandals, not the socks themselves. Hagnat was part of the admin team that I've stated before to be lacking. I've put a vote, because we have precedence for things like that now. This is the last time I'm involving myself with this affair, after the vote is done, I'm done.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 02:14, 6 July 2009 (BST)

There's a few reasons. Like if they forgot their account, but want their edits to be shown as theirs. Or when people go to ask the guy a question, they're asking the right account. Just a few little reasons, and it's been done before to top it off.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 02:34, 6 July 2009 (BST)
I know that this #REDIRECT [[User:{{subst:Jason 'Fock'n' Stafam}}]] is what I need, however it just seems to link to an image on the old page instead of redirecting to the new, or simply prints that exact text on the page. Is the existence of ' in my username causing the problem, or am I just too stupid to format it correctly?--Jason 'Fock'n' Stafam 10:02, 6 July 2009 (BST)

Im looking at completely revamping the zombie skills page. Mainly because I don't like it. I was thinking about retaining the existing main page, but making each skill its own sub page, so we can drop a lot of the stuff on the one huge page into individual stuff. Something like Feeding Groan in Detail All existing links would redirect to the main page, but it would be more of a hub. Have a look at my sandbox, where I've mocked up the initial pages and let me know what you think. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 12:28, 5 July 2009 (BST)

The numbering thing isn't an offical change - it's more just useful so people can link to exact cases (not the first one involving the user from the top of the page.) The only change is that we now add the {{Verdict}} template to cases (so finding out what the actual verdict is made easier. Linkthewindow  Talk  22:48, 21 July 2009 (BST)
Ah, okay. I'll remember to do that next time. I'm used to the wiki doing the automatic numbering, so that the top case against a user is the default name, then the second has a 2, and the third a 3, and so on. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 22:50, 21 July 2009 (BST)
If you let the automatic numbering system apply, every time a new case for the same person is added to the top, all the ones below it have their number increased by one. This means that if you link to a specific case, and another case against the person is added afterwords, your link will point to the wrong place -- boxy talkteh rulz 22:58 21 July 2009 (BST)

Correct location for policy discussion?

I was wondering, where is the correct place to initiate a discussion of vandalism reporting policy? Is it UDWiki:Vandalism:Discussion? I only ask as I'm surprised that that page currently doesn't exist. As for why? The lack of notification that you've been reported, unless you're fastidiously checking the vandalism reports is, in my opinion, quite disagreeable. --Roorgh 09:10, 5 August 2009 (BST)

I may soon apply for sysopship. What would be your opinion on the matter? (And in fact, if you're reading this, and aren't link, what would be YOUR opinion?) I've made a substantial amount of edits of recent, primarily to the suburb pages. I've been archiving news posts, which I'll be doing again on the 12th, and I'm in the process of adding icons to the headers of the suburb pages. Although I've been trollish in the past, I've worked on it recently, and would do even more so if I were to run for sysop. So, what do you think? Should I run, or not?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! How much do you like drama, especially the silly sort of which we now encounter with the 2 "Cool" group trollin' up and down the wiki? --Bob Boberton TF / DW Littlemudkipsig.gif 20:26, 4 September 2009 (BST)
Personally, I think that the whole 2 cool thing has been allowed too much leniancy, especially with ALiM. Sure, it should exist still, but it shouldn't be anywhere near as prominant. They've turned large numbers of locations pages that were stubs in to stubs with a vague reference to prostitution. However, as it stands, unless there was a massive overhaul, they should just be kept to themselves. On the note of drama as a whole, I'm opposed to it, naturally. Drama should always be avoided, especially silly kinds.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 20:35, 4 September 2009 (BST)

Abbreviation Help

I've recently created a group page, and was wondering how to make the abbreviation redirect to the group page. --Bhuwannabe 19:41, 6 September 2009 (BST)

There's a pretty simple guide right here. If you still have problems with that, just say, and I'll help set up the redirect.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:47, 6 September 2009 (BST)

A/RE

Dananz' and Cheese's reevaluations are due to be processed. Community opinion looks pretty clear on both of them, to me -- boxy talkteh rulz 17:07 11 September 2009 (BST)

Because I have reason to assume he's just petty enough to think he can get away with enforcing a ban on users participating in a page based for discussion and knowing he's a touchy bitch when it comes to me I feel like saving you guys drama, I'm going to comment here instead and then consider proposing a policy in a similar vein to perform the same basic function without the major obstructive issue of nonsensical words that can only be used for banning unsuspecting users for not going through enough motions. There's some very massive issues when it comes to trying to assign page ownership principles to images, the biggest being that images are page elements not pages, ownership would essentially just lead to duplication of large space files that can actually cause server problems. The proposal there is largely counter to the purpose of the policy. The statement that signatures like his aren't currently banned under the sig policy is actually well established as false, they always have been and it has been enforced as such in the past. The idea behind the sig policy is that it needs to be easily identifiable to readers who is making what comment. The rest is sorting what has been determined to be excessive, useless, and distracting to the actual page content. That is the purpose to all wiki sig policies and is an ideology represented by the extents of wikipedia's equivalent that goes so far as to limit code length for user convenience and templated sig limitations as a functionality issue. Basically, as it works out the policy will have an issue with the claimed intent of it, it'll actually cause more problems with wikilawyering to get users banned for not knowing enough wiki rules instead of making it easier on the users to insert creative and interesting content to the wiki. Better to just modify it to not limit content particularly and to develop a guideline page that's raised in profile on what's generally considered non-constructive in a signature and taking a soft warning approach to it that focuses on discussion of how it can be done in an non-obstructive manner. --Karekmaps?! 13:45, 17 September 2009 (BST)

Strike time

I am hearby requesting a striking of a ban from my vandal record as i have reached the requirements as per policy. I will be placing this request on an assortment of your peers talk pages so as to insure that this time, my striking isn't mysteriously postponed so as to further tarnish my record despite no wrong doing on my part. xoxo 08:47, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
