Organizing Penny Heights

Hi Lufio, I've seen your scans and read your posts and agree with your levelheaded approach and as a personal aside, I think you do good work. Just wanted to say hi and maybe get a dialog started. I think Penny Heights can be much more/better protected but there is such a lack of organization. Nowhere I looked have I seen a Standard Operating Procedure for 'burb security, zombie infiltration, etc...For example, what is our typical population? Defense strategies would change depending on those very numbers. Do we have an Elite Strike force for PH? Something like 100 members at level 15 or higher (Yeah, I know, I'm dreamin'...) I like the idea of superior force numbers brought to bear. How many doctors, gas men, Necro Techs, scouts, etc... do we have? What CAN we prepare for with what we have? I am inspired to think along these lines by what I saw at The Haslock Building & THEM. They really love pie up there!--Dr Mycroft Chris 20:13, 20 April 2008 (BST)

Hello there. Penny Heights is experiencing an artificial population boom right now. Normally, the biggest population centers are the two malls (50-75 in Joachim, 40-80 in Lumber), a mishmash of loners and groups. Other areas where residents congregate are the two hospitals (12+) where the Lumberjacks make their home and the newbie-accessible safehouses, Normandare Boulevard Police Department (6-12) and Hagger Square Fire Station (3-9), and the two NT Buildings (6-12). But with the horde of undead rampaging through Malton, we have a lot of refugees.

The older groups (e.g. the Lumberjacks, StarCake Faction) have plenty of L41 players, but they rarely participate in the Wiki pages for Penny Heights. They've got their own websites. The newer organizations make more noise, but I don't know what the levels are for most of their members. Organizing a suburb-wide response, other than huddle up in the Malls and NT Buildings, solely through the Wiki is not possible. It has to be done in-game as well.

Getting all those players to work as one is going to require a lot of AP. There are too many small groups with their own ideas that are quite vocal. There are also older groups that will do their own thing regardless of what's being shouted around on the radio. To get people to listen to your ideas, you have to air your propaganda on a daily basis. You have to out-shout everyone else and bombard the residents with your words. Thanks for your timely response. So, in peace time we're looking at a population of >200? Wow...that is not a lot. I also agree with your succinct summation of PH groups. Regardless, we should still have an easy to find & implement plan that is well known ahead of time. Perhaps we need to get a suburb wide forum operating with a rep from each group on it, or at least get all the key groups to agree on a direction and basic plans then get them to spread the word in game as well as lead by example. It's a nice idea but spies are generally a massive buzzkill in chatrooms. It just wouldn't work in practice. Currently, in my opinion everyone is getting along okayish (besides for BH and Dragonhead obviously), I for one was rather suprised at how well PH recovered from the dead once it took the suburb out. still, one thing that I have noticed is how many many many people herd together in the larger structures. In Lumber Mall people in the north almost outnumber the south by 3 to 1, so it's really uneven and there's not much that can be done with it. Simple psychology and common sense indicates the north is the best place to be, more place to run, but too many people are in single locations. As for a rep from each group on it, once again nice idea but not everyone would be for it. Lumber Mall Security host their own 'crimes' section which keeps track of griefers in the mall, but there are so many at times that it becomes impractical to post them in one place and then another. So one way which we try to help is to broadcast griefers details in the hope people will add, KOS and DNR when they see them. In my opinion it will be a long time till the whole of the suburb is organized, but because of its size and location it is a lot easier than somewhere such as Yagoton. Replacing NT scan with static

I thought if the building's NT equipment was offline, it would be better to reflect that, rather than leaving a very dated graphic up. It would be better if the template supported a flag indicating the status (status=offline|online) which overrides the filename--so people don't have to change the graphic link.

pennny heights news

Hmmm... thanks for bringing that to my attention... My rationale was that the blurb about PKer "catfighting" wasn't really news... There is a lot of controversy about PK stuff in the News, but I handle it this way: if there is a large spat of PKing, it's news. But a few isolated incidents, or a PK war involving only a handful (or two!) players is usually not news. I felt that post fell into the latter... The Zedapalooza info that was in there, too, I guess it got "caught in the crossfire"... If feel I was in error, please re-post the article... I'm certainly not infallible, and it's not solely one person's judgement to make -- but when I am on scene, I do make that judgement call... if you know what I mean? ... Re: No Comments in DangerReports

Those danger reports pertain to a suburb I alone maintain, evident by the fact I'm the only one thats updated it. If you dont think its enough information, hey you're right. But thats the level of information I choose to update. Otherwise there wouldnt be, even this sparse amount, information on those locations. If you can do a better job, go right ahead. More Badges!?!

Yes. Your wildest dream has come true. More ribbon badges are now available at NecroWatch. There are now 3 new ribbons for you to earn: Combat Recon, Morrish Sentinel, and Raines Hills Tour of Duty. Please note that only scans reported after January 29th, 2008 count towards Combat Recon (so as to be fair to newcomers). Of course right now 2 ribbons could be earned in one scan, so be sure to visit the Battle of Pitneybank before it's all over. Which shouldn't be anytime soon, mind you. Building updates

Stop switching things to unknown.

If we're not supposed to use the "unknown" tag, why do we have it? I tend to use it when I haven't actually entered the building in question at the time of the update. Scanning Made Easy!

Greetings Lufio. I wanted to take a moment to help provide additional information on posting scans, as you mentioned an interest. First off, I have no knowledge how iWitness works, per say, so I'm at a loss as to why it failed to record your scans. That, and when tables become distorted due to browser tools, are two main causes of unreported scans. Anyway, here are the steps you would take if, for example, there was already a scan image posted for an NT location (i.e. no static GIF):

1. Go to NT's location wikipage (i.e. The Whitlock Building).
2. Scroll down to the template where the scan is stored.
3. Click on the "Update" link below the image.
4. Now you're in the User:NTScan/(NT Building Name) wikipage.
5. Click on the scan image.
6. Now you're in the IMAGE:NTBuildingNecronet.png wikipage (for images).
7. Click the link named: Upload a new version of this file
8. Click the Browse button, and find the scan image on your computer.
9. IMPORTANT: Make sure the image names match.
10. Click the Upload button.
11. It will tell you there already is an image with that exact name! Well duh, we know. ;)
12. Select the first link, which states that you DO want to overwrite the old image.
13. After that you will find yourself back on the image wikipage (i.e. step 6).
14. IMPORTANT: Your scan image most likely will not appear until you click "Refresh" (browser).
15. Scroll down to the Links section and select User:NTScan/(NT Building Name).
16. Now you're back at the template wikipage for that NT location.
17. Click the Edit tab, to edit the wikipage.
18. In the line that starts with user= replace the old signature with yours.
19. IMPORTANT: The template adds "--" in front of all signatures, so you don't need to add it.
20. Save the changes.
21. Pat yourself on the back, you're done! :)

Keep in mind that these are the steps for updating the scan only. You also may want to look into update the NecroWatch/Recon wikipage whenever you scan from a building for the first time (only) and adding to your total scans on the Members list, since whenever you post a new scan for any location you get to add +1 to your total (this even allows for the same location being scanned multiple times, scans are scans).

Also these instructions are slightly different when reporting for a location that never has had a scan reported for it. In that case you have to actually upload a new image, and be sure to update the FileType value to whatever type of image file you uploaded. Its default is GIF, because that's the animated GIF file used for the "static" image.

Hopefully by being able to upload the images yourself you can avoid the iWitness tool altogether. I also hope this helps. :) --Mobius187 13:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

As an organization, NecroWatch requires absolutely no "group" affiliation or commitments, thus freeing you to act according to your own motives, desires, and goals. The only requirement from you as a NecroTechnician is the task of reporting NecroNet scans from facilities within your suburb(s). Even then you would have the choice of how often you complete this task or which facilities you would prefer to work with. If you are interested in joining all you need to do is confirm your membership by signing up here. Starting on January 1st 2008 all NecroNet scans reported to NecroWatch by licensed NecroTechnicians will count towards ranks with the ultimate prize of earning delicious cake.
