I've noted that the current system isn't working so well, so new system. If you wish to leave a message, please use the "+" tab next to the edit button. In the header, put the subject you're asking about, and then sign your comment once you're done. Hopefully this will make it much easier for me to see what people add to this page. -- Odd Starter talk | Mod | W! 01:26, 27 February 2006 (GMT)

If you can't find a comment you've left here, I've probably archived it. You can find my Talk page archive at User talk:Odd Starter/Inbox Archive. If you need to continue that conversation, don't edit that archive - add a new message to this page instead.

Adbot Attacks

Do they come from the same IP or range of IPs? If so, just banning that might save some hassle. I was checking the recent changes log every two minutes for about an hour. Something has to be done. –Xoid STFU! 13:48, 15 May 2006 (BST)

If they came from the same IP, the week-bans would be getting them. (There is a method to my madness…) Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to see their IPs if they're logged in (the hazards of login-only editing on the wiki), so figuring out their IP range is impossible. Frankly, I don't think they're stoppable - fortunately, it's easy to mop up after them. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 13:52, 15 May 2006 (BST)
This has been raised before, but since Kevan is proficient with plenty of programming languages, I'm sure he could integrate one of those "human verification" things into the wiki's signup process. Alternatively, is there a way to insta-ban anyone who sign up with a name consisting of numbers only? (Admittedly, that might not last long if the adbot is relatively adaptive.) –Xoid STFU! 14:00, 15 May 2006 (BST)
This requires some significant coding (or, at least, some very specific searching to find someone who has already done the coding). And, of course, Urban Dead is not Kevan's only concern - It's certainly not his day job. And even more so the wiki. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 00:38, 16 May 2006 (BST)
True. One thing I noticed about the Adbot pages you reported; you left them untouched. While it's slighty more work, don't give the bastard who runs the program the satisfaction of getting his webpage to go up even one ranking — write over everything. Click on editing box, Ctrl + End, Ctrl + Shift + Home, speedydelete. Once you get into the habit, it's pretty easy. ;-) –Xoid STFU! 03:16, 16 May 2006 (BST)
I know, but then, number one, the google bot doesn't usually parse through here for another few hours or so, and number two it's daytime AEST, so I can be fairly certain of a quick response on M/SD... -- Odd Starter talkModW! 03:26, 16 May 2006 (BST)

You may wish to look into this; it may prove useful, or maybe not. Human verification thingamagig. –Xoid STFU! 11:37, 20 May 2006 (BST)

It looks cool, but again, not my decision - I don't have access to the code. --Odd Starter talkModW! 12:09, 20 May 2006 (BST)

Delete

Seen my draft? –Xoid STFU! 05:01, 20 May 2006 (BST)

Checked the current candidate? –Xoid STFU!

While I'm under the "Delete" heading… you said that you deleted Zerger corperation, but it's not dead yet. –Xoid STFU! 08:48, 22 May 2006 (BST)

Thanks for that. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 10:05, 22 May 2006 (BST)

I demand justice!

Look at this and this! Please ask/tell him to get it off. There's no telling what could happen if Mpaturet of Undeadinator sees it :P --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 05:44, 24 May 2006 (BST)

My signature

DJSMITH, can you please change the link in your Signature to the actual CDF page you belong to? Currently it links to a disambiguation page, and we'd like to disambiguate as many links as we can. -- Odd Starter talk • Mod • W! 14:25, 24 May 2006 (BST)

I actually fixed that when i noticed it went to a disambiguation page, but as I have alot of edits with my signature, and i haven't made very many new edits… it shows the old version --DJSMITHCDF 19:35, 24 May 2006 (BST)

Kevan

Just an idle question: how often does Kevan check the wiki? Do you know? --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 13:06, 25 May 2006 (BST)

Special:Contributions/Kevan could maybe give you a rough indication - it'll at least give you a minimum value. --Toejam 14:34, 3 June 2006 (BST)
I actually think he checks more often than that. I didn't use to think so, but I was more than suprised when I saw him in the process of reverting adbot's spam. I think that he comes on at least once every 3 days. –Xoid STFU! 14:39, 3 June 2006 (BST)

Policy Discussion Rework

take a look at this page. This is how the policy discussion page should look like. Comments ? --hagnat mod 02:28, 27 May 2006 (BST)

You do realize that by changing the names of the links to the pages i linked in the policy discussion page the pages i already created need to be moved to their new ones... right ? --hagnat mod 03:22, 30 May 2006 (BST)

New guide (possibly)

I've been working on an editing guide (User:BobHammero/Editor's Toolbox) that I hope can be added to the other wiki documentation if people find it useful. I thought you might be interested in this, so if you are, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at that page, let me know what you think, and make any changes that you think should be made. If you know of anyone else that you think would have some feedback for me, please feel free to pass this on to them too. Thanks. --Bob Hammero TW!U! 06:39, 28 May 2006 (BST)

Families of Malton

As a former member of the Outbreak Lexicon team I thought you might be interested in looking at and/or helping with the Families of Malton project. Conndrakamod T W! 01:48, 30 May 2006 (BST)

My bid for modship

I'm leaving this note because, as you may or may not know, I'm currently running for moderator. Although I don't know if you and I have ever spoken directly, I've certainly seen your contributions on the wiki, and since you seem like a very level-headed person, I'd appreciate it if you would weigh in on my bid, whatever your views might be. (If you're interested in seeing my other wiki contributions, I have a more complete list on my user page). Thanks. --Bob Hammero TW!U! 07:53, 1 June 2006 (BST)

While I'm fiddling with your page...

Tell me, has that new shortcut template gotten anyone's attention? –Xoid STFU! 05:53, 2 June 2006 (BST)

I've used it in a couple of places. Nice job! --Bob Hammero TW!U! 08:24, 2 June 2006 (BST)

That Policy You Are Planning on putting up

May soon be a moot point. If Kevan confirms something for me, we can legitimately remove all this trolling crap without a policy change. –Xoid STFU! 11:07, 5 June 2006 (BST)

Sigs

Okay, I finally discovered where you have to go to have those letters and links in you sig... However, I don't know what to write and I don't feel like fucking things up, so I'm asking first.

Say you want you sig to have "x" besides you name in small letters that links to, say, the UD wiki main page, what's the code? --Certified=Insane 01:28, 8 June 2006 (BST)

<small>x</small> , x or x should work, depending on how you want the text to show up. –Xoid STFU! 01:43, 8 June 2006 (BST)

Thanks! Oh, and incase I want more links or wathever later on, how do you put those little black squares that seperate the links, are they automatic or require another code? --Certified=InsaneUG 01:49, 8 June 2006 (BST)

If you mean the "little black squares" that are in, for example, my signature or Xoid's, they show up by putting &bull; where you want one. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 02:22, 8 June 2006 (BST)

Ruleset contradictions

UDWiki:Administration/Guidelines: fifth ban has infinite duration. UDiki:Vandalism: fifth ban has 1 year duration.

Which one of these is correct?
As a side note, Moderation/Guidelines needs a link to it on the front page, being a subdocument in Moderation Services.
Until its addition to Policy Documents, the page had a very low chance of being noticed by users - personally, I didn't find out about its existence for last six months or so (well, the period for which I am on the UD Wiki, anyway), until today.

Exposure

UDWiki:Administration/Policy Discussion/Move the Moderation Pages - Any way to get it some? –Xoid STFU! 14:55, 12 June 2006 (BST)

A weird case

What should be done about this? Everyone wants it gone, but it's already been changed and the offending copy archived (?). Cyberbob  Talk  17:43, 12 June 2006 (BST)

Amazing's user page

What do we do with the offensive copy? At the moment, it only exists in the page history. I propose that we make an Undeletion case for the deleted revisions to be restored, move Amazing's user page somewhere, delete the offensive revisions AGAIN, move what's left of his user page back to its original place and then restore the deleted revisions to their new home. Then, protect both of them. This would create two copies of the page - one with the revised version and one with the original. It would serve as a reminder to all about what is not tolerated on the wiki. Cyberbob  Talk  13:26, 22 June 2006 (BST)

Uh, Odd...

Amazing's user page has already had it's offensive revisions wiped by Brizth. What Cyber was asking you was "Should we go through the ridiculously complicated process above in order to archive those offensive revisions?", the reason being that it can serve as an example of what will not be tolerated on this wiki. –Xoid STFU! 17:30, 22 June 2006 (BST)

Oh. Well... Honestly, If you wanna do it, fine, go ahead. If you really think it's worth it, go ahead, if not, don't... -- Odd Starter talkModW! 01:26, 23 June 2006 (BST)

Boo...

It'll be a lil' while until I can demote you, if you are insistent upon it. It requires both Hammero and myself to be in agreement for it to be legal. –Xoid STFU! 06:37, 24 September 2006 (BST)

Cool then. Just wanted to get the major (ie interactive) issues out of the way before I depart again. -- Odd Starter T M W! 06:53, 24 September 2006 (BST)
