External Image Links

Thanks for your help:

"To link to an image you just use this format Image:Name of Image. - Vantar 06:04, 26 August 2007 (BST)"

Thing is, that doesn't seem to work. It works fine for internal links, but not for external ones. I always ends up looking exactly like what you see up there: a link, but the image doesn't load. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I just can't seem to find any help that tells me how to do correctly. I'll continue digging and maybe I can "reverse engineer" some code somewhere... Cheers... --WanYao 21:19, 26 August 2007 (BST)

Alphabetizing

When you add or modify building pages that begins with "The" or "Club", it'd be helpful if you set up the categories so they come up properly on the category pages like Museum Category Page and the suburbs pages. The Hibbert Museum is an example. Thanks for fleshing out the wiki! --Tekka Maki 16:26, 2 May 2007 (BST)

I saw your change to The Ive Museum and the category info was still not quite right. If you put the "The" at the beginning, it will show up under "T" instead of "I". You can look at my change to see what I mean. --Tekka Maki 18:45, 3 May 2007 (BST)
Yeah sorry about that, I had been dropping the sort key in categorizes such as Museums and Buildings for awhile, mostly because all the pages in those categories start with "The" so they will all be in alphabetical order anyway just all in the T section of the Category. As for the Ive museum, simple copy paste error I overlooked thanks for catching it, just out of curiosity why are you adding ",the" at the end of the category labels with the way that the buildings are all named you don't really need it. - Vantar 20:36, 3 May 2007 (BST)
I don't think it matters for the building pages but on the suburb pages, there could be a The Something Building and Club Something, and then it would be useful. It's not a big thing either way but it doesn't hurt to put in the extra characters. --Tekka Maki 19:45, 4 May 2007 (BST)

Thanks for categorizing the locations I did in relation to that group. Is there any reason I couldn;t also add other categories relating to the locations use? --Seb_Wiers VeM 20:44, 3 May 2007 (BST)

No problem, add as many categorizes as you want along they apply to that location.

Uhh..Why?

Why are you creating pages, adding the templates, and leaving them? Aren't you supposed to finish them?--User:Axe27/Sig 20:38, 6 May 2007 (BST)

Right now I'm going thought the uncreated pages on List of Museums, I'm adding the location block and category information, a number of the people who collect the museum data have a tendency of leaving that stuff out when they are putting in the information about the museum type and until something major happens at these locations there is not much more to add about them - Vantar 20:49, 6 May 2007 (BST)
Alright,Thanks. --User:Axe27/Sig 20:56, 6 May 2007 (BST)

Fethed Computer

It's probably your power supply or your motherboard. Power supplies are cheap but tricky to put it, sorta, while you have to be very careful about replacing your motherboard. You should get the exact same model, hard with a 7 year old computer, or make sure all your stuff, especially your processor, will work with a new model you find. Also, replacing one is time-consuming and complicated. Of course, I only know this because of my power problems. Otherwise I wouldn't give a feth and thus know nothing. Stupid computers.--Lachryma 07:00, 13 May 2007 (BST)

Going only on the fact that it was been over 3 hours since my computer's last hissy fit I think I've fixed it, turns out it was a corrupt copy of Rainbow Six that was causing the shutdowns. If it happens again I'll look into power supplies. Thanks for your help, and grammartization of the safehouse supporter template. - Vantar 08:45, 13 May 2007 (BST)

Just so you know Grey and Twik are inactive, so you don't have to worry about them attacking you. Anyway if you could make your way to the forums and leave your impressions of the game, what it could do with, or without, then I'm sure that the creator would be happy to get some new input. He's always looking for different view points on the game, and at the moment it's only really two people giving him ideas. Location Blocks

It's not pretty, but I hope it helps. If you notice a "***FILL IN***" let me know at what location that it occured at so I can fix it up. There are *alot* of variation on street titles (Grove, Plaza ect) and so I don't know if I got them all. Of course you may need to fill in the data yourself around special buildings, but for the most part it should make your life easier. Also let me know if there is anything that needs to be corrected (eg a School labled as a Street =P) - If Jedaz = 12:19, 18 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3

WOW! This this rocks! You easily have saved my a few months of work with that thing. No major problems that I've found so far, but it dosen't seam to like generic locations like Factory 16,3. It enters it a factory(16,3) instead of a factory but even with that I can make a fully usable location block in under 30 seconds now.- Vantar 13:16, 18 July 2007 (BST)
Ah, thats easily fixable, that issue mainly came about because of my lack of knowledge about how the location blocks were done. Anyway before it was reporting a factory as just a factory which was less helpful. I'm glad that it helps so much. I'll let you know when I fix that, but for now, I'm going to sleep. - If Jedaz = 13:26, 18 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3
Farn excellent. A few minor tune ups needed (Dept => Department and St => St. for eg), but too easy! We'll get finished with the location blocks yet! -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 14:06, 18 July 2007 (BST)
Small bug with the categories, It adds an extra S to Arms to created the Category Armss and Categories that end in y get misspelled (Factorys instead of Factories), but still I just did half a suburb in 15 minutes. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vantar (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.
Ah, ok then, well thats solved now. What are the generic locations anyway? At the moment I've got Carpark, Factory, Junkyard, Wasteland, and Cemetery, are there any others that I missed? If you notice any more abbreviations let me know so I can fix it up. - If Jedaz = 03:44, 19 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3
Warehouses too. Cathedrals gives a ***FILL THIS*** message in the color section, I think it should be substituted for "church" -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 04:26, 19 July 2007 (BST)
Alrighty, I've got those as well. Let me know if I missed anything else. By the way do we want to categorise the pages by suburb and building type as well eg ? - If Jedaz = 06:46, 19 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3
That's a no to Dakerstown Warehouses Jed. The Category:Police Depts still needs to be changed to Category:Police Departments. Can we get some headers put in too, something like this (although take out the barricade policy and perhaps the current status, as it's not needed for empty blocks) -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 07:18, 19 July 2007 (BST)
Alright. I must have missed about the category of Police Departments, but thats fixed now. The headers are there now as well. Let me know if it needs changing. - If Jedaz = 07:28, 19 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3
Coolio. I'd put a subst: in on the PAGENAME, and make it a second level (rather than 4th level) header. Then it's pretty much a straight cut'n'paste anyone can do! Bravo :) -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 07:32, 19 July 2007 (BST)
Alright, done. I don't know how I accidently got a level 4 header, but I did =P Anyway I'm just putting in a function so that it has the other two headers (Barricade Policy and Current Status) for buildings and not streets, carparks, ect. - If Jedaz = 07:41, 19 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3

Yer a legend Jedaz :) Not a single red link in the Police Department category now thanks to this! -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 07:45, 19 July 2007 (BST)

Heh, thats good to hear. Anyway I just updated it again so that it recognize buildings (aka, the locations that can be barricaded) and give them the additional headers. - If Jedaz = 07:51, 19 July 2007 (BST) then pi = 3

You're spamming the wiki with tons of incorrectly indexed pages. All the "The" buildings shouldn't be alphabetized by the "The" in the building-type category. It makes the category useless. --Tekka Maki 05:16, 25 August 2007 (BST)

Deleting Pages on the Wiki

Hi, I thought I'd come here to continue the discussion on my page without clogging up the deletions page, and I didn't really know where else might be a good place to discuss this. I really just have two questions: first, how did my page end up on the "Special:Uncategorizedpages" page? Is that some kind of spider or bot that goes around and collects pages with only 1 link to them or something? Just wondering, since I obviously never linked it there. And second: why does this really matter? I mean, why is it important that a page be properly filed and categorized and not just "shoved into a filling cabinet," as you say? To me a wiki is like the net itself: tons and tons of uncategorized random stuff that just needs a good search engine to get around in. I mean, it seems like it would take dozens of people hours a day to monitor and remove all the garbage that gets spewed into a wiki, and it'd be a pretty thankless, never-ending job. Why not just ignore it and make your wiki smart enough to handle it? Like my page, for instance. What could it possibly be hurting, just sitting out there by itself? I mean, sure the name of the page would be taken if anyone else wanted to use it, but how many other people are honestly going to want to grab that namespace? What else does it possibly damage? Is this just organization for the sake of being organized? Don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to defend a position - just honestly asking a question here. And as for the page in question, I'll still be happy to move it - just let me know when and I'll go ahead and do it (especially since now I know better how to do things like that than when I originally made the page). Or if I need to leave it and let someone else move it, I can do that, too. Just let me know. --evilbob 19:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

The Specialpages are lists that the wiki automatically compiles. Special:Uncategorizedpages is made up of all the pages without a category. In order to be useful to users the wiki can not just be random uncategorized stuff for two reason. First the search function sucks and second the wiki is meant to serve as a guidebook to the game so if you know what type of information you are looking for you know where to look with out needing the search function.
As for having the wiki categorize itself, it can't be done be done to the same level of accuracy as a human. On the average day 5-7 new page are created without categorizes and I categorizes 10+ pages and it is as you said a pretty thankless, never-ending job (thats why I only do 10 a day, 7 months ago I was doing a 100 a day). Left alone without a category you page would not cause the wiki to explode or do any other damage but the problem is it won't be left alone, it will be joined by lots of other uncategorized pages and after awhile those pages cause problems (such as masking spam pages, page duplication, and the odd name space disputes). This isn't really "organization for the sake of being organized" but more of "organization because it works slightly better than disorganization".
The page will either be moved or deleted in around 12 days, judging by the current votes it has I would say it will be moved and not deleted. There is a special way of moving pages that leave the page history intact that can only be done by Sysops, so you can just leave it alone and it will be moved for you - Vantar 04:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

That note...

...about you being less active. Shouldn't you remove it? You seem quite active to me.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

NIV

I can link you to some good resources if you need it- but long story short, KJV is the ONLY true English translation of the Bible. All others have satanic implications; for instance, NIV refers to Jesus as god's "SERVANT", not His "SON" in several locations. One moment and I'll ahve those resources.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  03:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't attack the validity of the source- that's the BIGGEST flashing indicator of a weak mind- refute the points.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  00:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok nutjob, go join your friends causing misery on earth waiting for the rapture to slaughter us evil heathens/heretics. You ever wonder why suicide bombers do what they do? LOOK IN THE MIRROR, YOU ARE THE SAME. - Pardus 23:40, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually sometimes attacking the validity of the source is the best course of action to take, especially when it's, say, Fox News, for example. But it really doesn't help that the source you use contains examples of exactly what you are criticizing him for. Even then, comparing the Catholic church to Stalin and Hitler, and the inquisition to the holocaust kinda destroys claims of sanity, especially when they encourage the prosecution of not only other religions but transgendered people. When you talk about religion it should be because you believe, not because you want to use it as a sword to insult and mock other's beliefs.--Karekmaps?! 01:43, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
The KJV is flawed. One reason is because it retains the Apocrypha. --Pavluk A! E! 18:37, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
No, it keeps them... IN THE MIDDLE.... AS HISTORICAL REFERENCE, clearly marking them as apocrypha.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  00:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
I used NIV because it was the default bible on the bible search tool I was using, the pros and cons of the KJV are about the same as any other translation (anything coming from Aramaic to English by way of Greek will have translation errors -fact of life) so from now on if I need to use any scripture references I'm using Wyclif version and thats final- Vantar 19:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
KJV is the only valid translation in english. I have yet to hear you refute any of the points raised on that page.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  00:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
The webite also makes the assertation that the KJV in English is the only inspired Word of God available today. I honestly find it ridiculous. Do you believe in a God that would oppose the translation of his book into languages other than English? That'd be a pretty xenophobic God. --Pavluk A! E! 20:41, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
The whole virgin birth thing was one doozy of a translation error that came by way of greek. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 19:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Jesus IS God incarnate, he was born of a virgin birth, but the Virgin Mary ISN'T holy, nor did she remain a virgin. And I say to you three things, that will happen before it's all over. I pray that you repent when you hear of them coming to pass in the future.
1. Damascus shall be destroyed It shall either be completely leveled, or so much of its population devastated that no one shall call it a city ever again.
2. The Jewish Temple shall be rebuilt I called it. Trust me, it will happen.
3. An army of 200 million men shall attack Israel Never been an army that large in the history of history, but there will be one- and it will attack israel.

Speedy Deletions

Could you please use a heading when you add pages to the queue? It helps to keep things organised. --Hubrid Nox Mod WTF U! B! 15:40, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

sure no problem Vantar 22:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you

Well, my archive for old talk was moved and i saw you asked for that. I think the mistake i made was not using the ":" betwen "user" and "che13". if I made any others please tell me to avoid making those again, and also, I left a comment about it here becouse i really think users should know one of their pages has been moved, to fix the links he has to that page, and to understand why it was moved to avoid future errors when creating pages. -- Che -T GC X 09:10, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, it's good to see people who cares about the wiki, and the wiki users-- Che -T GC X 04:06, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Crabapple

We are honoured to have a category all of our own! However, would it be possible to have it changed to 'Crabapples' or 'Crabapple family'? The singular was originally established as the main term by a group of communist ruffians. Would you mind? (Incidentally, I may be slow if you reply to this, for which I can only apologise in advance!) --St. Ethelbert Crabapple 14:40, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou very much! Very accomodating of you sir! --St. Ethelbert Crabapple 17:15, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

No problem, since there is a good number of pages on your group now do you guys want a category of your own? Vantar 21:22, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

That would be nice, if possible.--Nuabreed 11:49, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

How about Category:Legion of the Octopope Vantar 23:32, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

The Brennand Building

Just stopped by to ask if I can remove the locations stub template from the bottom of This page. I feel it's completed for the current moment. --Kamden 01:06, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. --Kamden 01:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
The only reason why I put it there was because the page was using the locationblockmerge template instead of the locationblock template, I made the change and replaced locations stub with Category:Locations very nice page by the way Vantar 01:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I do believe it's as done as it'll get. --Kamden 01:32, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
