20080814 Give Ruin Age in ExMilReps
Swiers 05:54, 14 August 2008 (BST)
Suggestion type
improvement
Suggestion scope
External Military Reports
Suggestion description
Pretty much what the name says. The AGE of a ruin is now an important game factor, and can be determined from outside the building. In some cases, it would be VERY obvious from the air, as it is mentioned in the description that the ceiling is falling in!
Basically, the EMR's would have a section added that would mention the name of the building (in the reported suburb) that has been ruined the longest, and how long (in the same descriptive terms as the external description uses) the building had been ruined.
This would ONLY apply if that building has been ruined long enough for the damage to be seen from the air, such as buildings where the interior description says the roof is open and weeds are growing inside.

Keep Votes
- Keep - I was thinking the same thing myself... However, I'd just like to see a general description of some sort, which would act as an approximation of the ruin level -- not having the specific AP cost reported. --WanYao 06:09, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- in response to swiers below... i would actually like to see smaller "incriments" displayed... not just > or < than 50. i'd have to look at the almanac to see the different levels that are in game... but something following them a little more closely... for example, at least <25, 25-50, 50-75, etc.... about that level of differentiation. --WanYao 08:02, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - But only if there are no numbers involved. Just semi-cryptic visual descriptions based on the decay flavor.--Karekmaps?! 06:09, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- To both voters above- yes, that is the intent. It seem current external ruin descriptions fall in 3 categories; 'some time', 'several weeks', and 'months'. I think those (or phrases with similar meanings) would work well. Swiers 07:36, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Took me a second to remember what ExMilReps are, by the way. --Aeon17x 06:19, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Yeah, I had the same issue, might want to change the title when this passes. Yet another great idea from Swiers! Techercizer (Food) (TSoE) 06:33, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I like this a lot. Good flavor and logical, so a keep vote it is. --ZiPMH+LUE 07:03, 14 August 2008 (BST)

- Author's vote. Note that, according to Eastonwood_Ferals/Almanac the first major signs of roof damage appear at 50+ days; by the suggestion text that would be the minimum ruin age for this to have effect. Seems a decent cut off point. Swiers 07:54, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - 50 sounds good. Also do we know if roof cavings have any effect on dark buildings? It's a tad stupid if they don't....--xoxo 08:30, 14 August 2008 (BST)
- I'm pretty sure the building condtions are purely descriptive and have no game mechanics effect on whether a building is dark or not, etc. Heck, yu can't hear feeding groans in a junkyard either, so go figure... Swiers 08:35, 14 August 2008 (BST)

- Keep I see nothing wrong with it, and would it only be weeds? Why not have a tree grow into a ruined building and make it impossible to repair unless destroyed by a fire axe? --Riukken 12:45, 18 August 2008 (EST)

- Keep This is another logical thing for the military to report. It's not like they'd completely overlook the fact that the buildings are all caving in in the suburb. Padfu-Zomfu 12:08, 28 August 2008 (BST) Late vote struck. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 12:26, 29 August 2008 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - While this information may be interesting the first time you hear it, it would end up that in most suburbs it will always be the same building that is ruined the longest (probably a dark one) and in long held zombie territory the description wont even change. It'll mostly just be uninformative spam. Perhaps if it gave a random building that was representative of the average state of ruination instead? -- boxy talk • i 12:01 21 August 2008 (BST)
- It seems you get maybe 5 reports a day. That means an average of 1.5 reports per month about a given burb. Even if the building never changes, that's not "uninformative spam", because its so infrequent. This is also aimed more at the casual, newer player, who might hear such a report and realize that the burb is a long-dead, zombie held zone, and react accordingly. Granted, the wiki is an easier (and more likely source) for such info), and probably a random "representative" building would give the same info in most cases, and maybe better info for survivor held burbs with just a few "who cars" buildings. Either would be good by me. Swiers 16:44, 21 August 2008 (BST)
