Although the large number of Necrotech buildings make New Arkham useful for scientists, the absence of police departments makes the area unattractive for survivors specializing in firearms skills. Because New Arkham is a long distance away from the mall, survivors here are at a significant resource disadvantage - survivors sometimes move out after acquiring Bargain Hunting. Aside from the aforementioned four Necrotech buildings, the west and south edges of New Arkham are particularly resource-poor and are thus prone to neglect by survivors and ruination by zombies. Even before the outbreak it was considered boring. Most people had simple office jobs. After children grew up, they usually left to find some place less dull. The only thing that New Arkham was ever famous for was that it was the youngest suburb in Malton, it was 37 years old at the time of the outbreak and is now preparing for 42nd birthday celebrations.

With nine dark buildings (five banks, three clubs, and one cinema), undead hordes and hunted outlaws have many places to hide. In recent times the suburb has fallen victim to rampant overcading which means survivors risk being caught in the open unless they find a rare entry point.

The survivor group Sons of Chester was founded at Club Chester and occasionally stop by to fix up their old building and get eaten, usually in that order. In late 2011, scrappy new zombie group People Before Pulses began a persistent and devastating campaign from the southwest corner of Malton, transforming the once placid, survivor-friendly suburb into a zombie paradise. Additionally, zombie group Clubbed to Death maintains an informal presence in the southwestern corner. In 2012, the Scurvy Scroungers have made a resurgence in the zone, adding to the zombie presence.

Historically, New Arkham was home to the New Arkham Free Zone a utopian project where the suburb would have no barricades and no killing, and would generally be an area where humans and zombies could cooperate in peace and harmony. The suburb was chosen due to its location in a corner of Malton and lack of resource buildings.

2024

January 18th

The NecroTech Countermeasure Squad has liberated the suburb from the zombie presence. Most resource buildings are intact and powered, with a small survivor population remaining. The suburb has been designated as 'safe.' --Mikhail Vicktor 23:02, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

2021

November 4th

About a dozen standing zombies scattered around the suburb. About 1/2 buildings is ruined, mostly recently. Almost all ruined buildings are empty. Looks like survivor population is small and struggles to keep a portion of buildings intact. --Jelito2008 (talk) 18:46, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
