On May 31st 2007, the option to wear different clothing items was added to the game. When a character is wearing clothing, it will be displayed in their profile as follows: {{ud|''A non-descript survivor.''<p>'''Wearing:''' a police cap, a pair of black boots</p>}}

To be able to put on a certain item, it is necessary to stand inside an appropriate ''non-ransacked'' building, then press the "Settings" button.

==Common Colors==

When a clothing item has <colour> before it the choices are from a standard colours list:

If a building does not have all the available colours of a particular item it will be noted with an appendix stating which colours are available. Some places may contain unique colors not included in this list, e.g. ''khaki''.

==Damage to Clothing==
Most clothing can be damaged. Damage, if present, consists of one-word descriptions of the physical condition and/or the amount of blood present, e.g. somebody may be wearing ''a bloodstained police cap, a tattered and blood-soaked brown jacket, and a battered pair of white boots''. All clothing appears to have a chance of being ''blood-flecked'' if the wearer takes damage or dies while wearing it; further damage or deaths can make most items ''bloodstained'' or ''blood-soaked'', or eyewear ''blood-smeared''. Fabric clothing, e.g. jackets, can be ''ripped'', ''torn'', or ''tattered''; harder items, e.g. boots, can be ''scraped'', ''scratched'', ''scuffed'', or ''battered''; eyewear can be ''scratched'', ''cracked'', or ''broken''. In a few cases, items of clothing have been known to turn into ''a <color> rag'', but this is a very rare case and might be caused by a programming glitch. Also, in these cases, the info on what the item the rag was previously is lost (rags have their own [[Clothes Codes]]).

As of the May 28th update, clothes can become fuel soaked if a character is struck by a [[fuel can]]. This also removes any blood on clothing at the time. Some fuel soaked clothing can be ''charred'', if ignited by a [[flare gun]].
