I was a stockbroker...before it happened. Buying, selling, holding dumping - none of it matters anymore. My wife told me that if I stayed too long in that business, it'd rot my soul. Looking back on things, she was probably right. I'd already lost her even before the "Malton Incident."

I had a wife and two kids. I say "had" as if they don't exist anymore, but they're still here...in Malton. When it first happened, when the first insane creature bit into my wife and kids I could think of nothing but to take them and run, look for a Doctor, a Priest something...

All three of them died that night.

And came back.

Came for me.

When I first saw a Necrotech syringe used, I felt hope for the first time in what seemed like years.

I found my wife, found my kids. As all three of them came for me I stabbed them each with the green needle, one at a time. We were a family again. Except...they weren't at all happy about being revived.

My wife growled at me: "You're rotten inside." They stared at me with a loathing I'd never truly seen before (although it was probably there all along) and, hand-in-hand, they jumped from the 5th floor of St Anacletus' Hospital.

They were still a family - just without me...

When the remaining staff at St. Anacletus's Hospital finally brought me back to some kind of coherence 2 months had passed. I'd stare at the headshot corpses on the streets looking at the dead faces before they did their curious twitch that was the tell-tale sign of a stirring zed - I never did find them. They had moved out of Dulston a long time back and have never returned. I began to hunt the zeds myself.

For a time the only word I'd say when someone said anything to me was "rotten."

By the time I joined up with D.I.T.P.S everyone was calling me Rotten Ray.

I'll live with it. It's who I am now. The past is prologue.
