'St Swithin's Day, if Church is dead
Full forty days shall rule the zed
St Swithin's day, if Church secure
For forty days humans endure.'
What?
St. Swithun's day, before the Malton Incident, was a harmless festival celebrated by the Christians of the city, the idea being that if it was sunny on the 15th of July, the weather would be fair, and if it rained, the weather would be dull. Since the outbreak, it has somewhat fallen by the wayside. However, in late 2008, the trend was bucked. Several people devised a new way of celebrating St. Swithun's day in a manner more fitting to the current situation.
Again, what?
There are four Churches of St. Swithun in Malton; one in Heytown, Lukinswood, Spicer Hills and Yagoton. The status of the Church on July 15 would be seen to be symbolic of not just the state of the suburb, but of the state of Malton as a whole. If most stand intact and powered, humans can expect to prosper. If most of them are ruined, then zombies can revel in easy times ahead. Hence, if humans want to demonstrate their power, or zombies seek to destroy a figurehead, look no further than each of these Churches. If it's a case of two apiece, it's assumed that it'll be about equal.
