Chapter 7
I had searched the top levels of the building with no luck in finding any type of transmitter. So I had stopped to think about where the Radio Transmitter would be if there really was one in here, there were multiple places. The main offices, basement, and reception areas seemed to be the most likely places. I had already gone through the main offices, and reception was on the first floor. The building was primarily used by Necrotech, but was probably also used by other businesses. There were quite a few stairs to go before I could reach the first floor, as I approached the staircase i took a brief look down, it looked like there were atleast 400 steps. I knew that i couldn't run down 400 stairs, but I could probably run down 150. I was off to a good start, a light jog, watching my step, and taking in the cold air of the concrete stairway. 10 minutes later i was beginning to tire and sweat, my knee's were beginning to hurt from the constant impact of concrete stairs on my feet. 5 minutes later I had decided to slow it down and walk, i only had about 100 steps left, my legs were starting to burn, and i was beginning to smell a horrible stench. As i got closer to the basement the stench got stronger, my eyes were starting to water, and it was getting harder to breath, I continued reminding myself that if I didn't get to this transmitter we could all starve to death, I kept going until the point that I couldn't breath anymore, it was just an overwhelming stench, it was unimaginable how bad this was... i had finally reached the first floor... I took a breif look around the room for something that would help me... there it was... a small fan... it was sitting on an end table in the lobby... i ran for it... and pushed in the power button... i heard the thrum of the fan... and then the next thing to do was open the doors... my vision was becoming blurred... i slowly walked over to the doors... i fell on the door just barely pushing it open... and took in a few deep breaths of air... my vision returned to normal, and i was no longer dizzy. I broke one of the windows in the door so air could flow freely into and out of the building, and the stench could flow out of the building also. Completely forgetting about the radio transmitter I went to investigate the stench... it must have been coming from the basement, i only have 2 sets of stairs to descend until i got to the basement... I should look for a flashlight first though, so i searched through the drawers of the reception desk and found a small metal flashlight and four sets of batteries, I turned on the flashlight and descended the stairs... i flashed the light on the bottom of the stairs... I was extremely shocked by what i had seen... it was a pile of dead bodies... I had suddenly thrown up... it was all over the stairs... I continued to the basement... i was on the floor... i looked at the pile of bodies and just ignored it and continued walking... i was not 10 feet from the pile when i heard fast movement coming towards me... i quickly turned around, pulled out my pistol, and shot right into the face of whatever was behind me... i flashed the light on it and it was a zombie with a bullet hole in the middle of it's face, that was a damn lucky shot... I shined the light on the pile of bodies... it was now smaller... i looked around... i heard low groaning sounds from all around the room... i was almost completely surrounded, the only place i had left to go was towards a desk... i looked at the desk... there was a computer moniter, a cup filled with pens... and what looked like a flare gun... i sprinted towards the table... the zombies let out loud groans and started after me... I got to the table and grabbed the flare gun... i shot towards them... completely missing all the zombies... it hit the pile of bodies ingnited it... i heard many loud groans, it must've been a planned ambush, i wonder how they managed that. I pulled the shotgun out of its place and fired into a zombie... it left a large hole in its chest... i pumped the shotgun and go ready to fire again... the room now stunk of burning flesh instead of whatever the hell that was... i fired again as the zombie i previously shot slumped to the floor and ceased to move... the shot took ones left arm off and got the one adjacent to it in on the left side of the chest... the one with the chest wound slumped to the ground... theres was now only one zombie left standing, it only had one arm left... i pumped the shotgun and got ready to fire... all i heard was a 'click'... i dropped the shotgun and reached for my pistol... i fumbled with the pistol and dropped it... it missed fired and hit a wall... i reached for my only remaining weapon, my ax... i charged at the zombie... i quickly lifted the ax over my head and swung down with devastating force... it went right into the brain of the zombie and was stuck... i kicked the zombie in the chest and the ax came free... the last zombie slumped to the floor dead. The transmitter obviously wasn't down here, if it was it probably wouldn't be in working condition, so it had to be in reception somewhere... i walked back up the stairs... before entering the reception room i peered into it... there were about twenty zombies wandering around the room and still more crawling through the hole i left in the glass.
The only thing that went through my head was, how am i going to get out of here alive?
Chapter 8
I had just sat well around the corner from the room filled with zombies, i was counting the hours. So far i had been sitting there for 6 hours, astonished that they hadn't found me yet, I was getting restless, so i reached into my pocket to see how much ammo i had left, I pulled my hand out of the pocket, there were four shotgun shells, their cool, smooth surfaces in my hand. I felt tears coming on, i was scared for my life. It was either i was eaten by these monsters, or i shot myself. I would much rather kill myself than be eaten alive, this was when i had to make a choice. I reached into my other pocket where i kept the bullets for my pistol. There was one bullet left, shiny and cold. I kinda chuckled at the idea of such a small thing killing me, especially when it was being shot off by me. I put the bullet into my clip, loaded the pistol, gulped... and as I was about to pull the trigger tears starting pouring out of my eyes and dripped off my face onto my shirt. I took in one final breath... and then out of nowhere... The sound of multiple rifles being shot off, it was coming from the lobby. I looked and it was a small military squad, armed with M16's. The entire room was cleared out, bodies lying everywhere. I heard one of them, probably the squad leader say "We've gotta get those documents out of the building, those are crucial for the cover-up". i thought to myself, what would they have to cover-up? Already a full city is under full quarantine, and has been left for dead. I thought they could possibly help me, no, they would probably assume i was in early stages of infection and would kill me on sight. I looked around for an extra shady area... there it was, just down the hallway. A dark corner. I crawled over to it... and lied down as if dead, now all there to do was wait. About 5 minutes later they walked down the other end of the hallway as if they knew exactly where they were going. I waited until i heard the sound of their boots echoing on the stairs. As soon as i heard the echo of boots on stairs i sprinted for the door, realising that even outside, i was vulnerable to any psychopath and zombie alike. I finally got outside, i didn't care if i ever got to that transmitter anymore, just aslong as i safely got back to the Bellamy Building. I was starting to run out of breath, and eventually had to walk, while i walked i loaded 2 shells into my shotgun and got ready for anything. The Bellamy Building was about 3 blocks away, not too far, about a ten minute walk. It was strangely, quiet. No groans, no maniacal laughing, no nothing. After i walked about 5 minutes, i realised, something had to be up, either the zombies left, or they are gathering, either by instinct, or something is controlling them like puppets. I walked faster... i readied my shotgun... and before i knew it... i was at the Bellamy Building. CHAPTER STILL IN PROGRESS
