History
Rebus Plaza is dedicated to the memory of the Scottish detective Inspector Rebus, who after retiring from the Lothian and Borders Police chose to live in Stanbury Village, at the foot of the hill on which the Plaza stands.
Despite his retirement, hard-boiled ex-cop Rebus continued to solve crimes; with Ridleybank's notorious Allsop Arms at the end of his street, he was not short of vicious murders to ponder. It is thought that a contract was put on his head by several of Malton's street gangs, with the result that Rebus was found dead on a chilly spring morning, at the viewpoint now crowned by the Rebus memorial. The search for his killer(s) was halted by the advent of the zombie apocalypse, which diverted police resources to more pressing concerns.
