This has become quite a nice little catch phrase around here.  


Usage (normal): It is meant as a conversation ender. The message it conveys is "I've acknowledged what you have to say and have nothing to add. I appreciate that you responded."

Usage (sarcastic): It is still a conversation ender, however, when used as a response in an argument (rather than a discussion) it has the additional implication of "I have read what you have to say. I think you are an idiot and do not have the time to try to beat common sense into your thick skull while I secretly wonder how you function day to day without getting yourself killed by wolves or co-workers."

It is meant as a means of stopping the conversation from deteriorating into flaming, name calling, or arguing in circles.

Real World Origin: I was in an email "discussion" with a supervisor at work about certain procedures. I called her out on a few things that she had wrong getting a tone of righteous indignation in my email that honestly wasn't warranted. Her simple reply after a few exchanges was "Thank you for your input." It stopped me cold.

TYFYI only works if the person posting it actually ''STOPS'' responding. If you post it and then reply to a reply to it you are breaking the spirit of TYFYI and are truly a dumb ass.
