| During the dot-com boom of the 1990's, Santlerville saw a sharp increase in white-collar jobs. When the bubble burst, commercial development in the suburb stalled, though the towers and office buildings remained as new industries took hold. Dowdney Mall, one of the very last malls to be built before the outbreak, was built at the start of this "commercial era", opened in 2001 during a massive gala to celebrate the reinvigoration of the suburb. The young urban professionals that worked here didn't move in, but they had an increased incentive to hang around when the nightclubs began appearing.
