Pole Mall's unique design came when in late 1996, just as the second Mall Boom was drawing to a close, and like many malls in Malton was enacted as a stopgap to a dropping economy. The West Grayside suburban committee discovered at that time that the local economy was tanking, badly. The auto industry had recently hit a massive slump in the local area, temporarily shutting down many of the auto repair shops that made up much of West Grayside's economy. In addition, the Malton Rovers had been stealing many fans away from WG's Clapton Stadium with their recent string of victories, pulling much-needed dollars northward to Floyde Stadium in Barrville. West Grayside needed money- and fast.

Pole Mall, though muted white on the outside and containing most of the staples of any Malton mass-shopping establishment, is by and large a gigantic Clapton Stadium gift shop- no other mall in Malton sports so much red, even a post-siege Caiger. Though the general mall decor is a fairly muted color that is easy on the eye, a duck into any of the sports stores or clothing stores will make you think you've walked onto the scene of a massacre. West Graysiders are immensely proud of the Crash- and of their mall. Pole Mall is also bracketed on several sides by tall, gray stone parking garages, which are angled largely in similar shape as the mall itself and often give the misconception that the entire mall is made of stone. Since the outbreak, most of these garages have collapsed after being damaged by various zombie hordes rattling through the area, and since upkeep of garages has never been high priority for survivors they remain collapsed today.

Pole Mall's North-West corner has fallen to the might of the [[Militant Order of Barhah]]. There are currently around 85 survivors spread throughout the remaining mall and rumours of several inside the stadium to the South-West. The number of casualties/barhah-enlightened is already in the high forties and rising with each wave of attack. The mall is completed dark now, the humm of a generator can't be heard anywhere. Basic Info:

  • Malls are an excellent place to find a wide range of items; the only major items that cannot be found here are revivification syringes and fuel cans. As such, Malls are frequently used as safehouses and fortresses by survivors. Zombies often check inside (when they can get in), and organized zombie groups sometimes lay siege to them. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point.

Pole Mall, or Pall Mall as it is known to the beleaguered locals, is a three-block shopping mall built around one corner of Clapton Stadium in the suburb of West Grayside. Pole Mall is unique in this manner, as all other malls have four blocks, with the exception of Lumber Mall, which has two blocks.

An inside view of the mall days before the outbreak

Designer Hitoshi Abe was called upon to solve the suburb's crisis - Hitoshi had designed Clapton Stadium ten years earlier, and now saw the problem largely as a matter of business. Other than a few clubs and bars to the south, there was almost nothing to do in West Grayside other than the stadium. The response; build an add-on.

With a quick surge of funding from the city, Abe set out on the fastest and most ambitious construction project of his long-standing career. After only six months of work, Abe proudly cut the ribbon and opened the doors to Pole Mall in early June. The mall was done in the same curving style as the stadium, nestled up close and connected by a series of short, flowing skyways. It looked natural and charming, almost as if it had been built with the stadium rather than ten years after, and it did the trick- within the next three months attendance at Clapton games had tripled, and the suburb's troubles were over.
