The Cast's

There are five cast's the fire, earth, air, water and Ethereal cast and the kroot

The Fire Caste are the soldiers of the Tau Empire. but most with strength less than that of an average human. They do not train for close combat, due to the fact that they see it as barbaric. When hand-to-hand combat is unavoidable, it is generally entrusted to Kroot

The Earth Caste is primarily technicians; responsible for building the machines, protecting the dwellings that allow the Tau to survive. The Earth caste also includes artisans, scientists, and engineers.

The Water Caste is made up of diplomats and administrators. They are responsible for maintaining effective interaction between the castes, as well as communicating with and supervising the integration of alien species into the Tau Empire or dealing with alien species.

The Ethereals are the leaders of the Tau, and appear to combine the roles of priesthood and royalty in Tau society. Ethereals are obeyed without question by the other castes, It is not unknown or even uncommon for Ethereals to become adopted into a caste, dedicating themselves as leading that group in particular. This has often been met with approval by the senior Aun who believe it allows more in-depth leadership of the infrastructure.

the Kroot society is divided into tribes, known as Kindreds. Each Kindred is an extended family group of Kroot and is led by a Shaper, one Kroot with an intuitive understanding of the DNA absorption process all Kroot possess, and responsible for guiding the evolution of their Kindred. The Shaper, upon identifying a beneficial genetic trait, will instruct his Kindred to hunt and consume that animal. Often, Kindreds will band together, and the Shapers will form a Council, of which the most influential Kindred's Shaper will be made leader of the group. On rare occasions, a Chief will unite a large number of Kindreds underneath him.
