I'm afraid there's no way to let only you and the sysops edit it, it's either everyone or only sysops. However, since it's essentially a group page that you own, you're the controller of what does and doesn't stay on the page. As for code, I'll be glad to help a fellow Irishman, just have a look around some of the group pages or event pages on the wiki (for example, this, this or this might interest you), and let me know what you like.
