The End of Malton?

It looks to me like, in April, 2011, some person or group set out to destroy Urban Dead. They have registered many thousands of new players, probably through the use of bots, but most of the new players are inactive. However, about two thousand of them did become active as zombies. Since then, the balance that kept Malton swinging back and forth for years has dramatically shifted against survivors.

I started looking at the statistics and making notes about what I saw, and here are a few observations and conclusions.

  • The group responsible is The Dead.
  • It has 1,565 members, which is ten times more than any other group.
  • A random sample of suburb wiki pages reveals that it is in every suburb.
  • Its web page contains mostly images, but it has one cryptic remark: "Never forget June 6, 2011."
  • This last observation makes me think that the goal is to take down the game by June 6.
  • No matter how many real humans are behind the movement, they must surely have too many characters to handle.
  • Since members of The Dead are in every suburb, they can probably spy on and squelch any attempt to organize a counterstrike.

Various theories about the who and the why.

Therefore, I propose the following solution.

To see my solution, you must have the password, which will change every few days. Take the encrypted message below and paste it into the textbox at http://infoencrypt.com. Type in the password twice and read the message. Members of the group Squadron1111 know the password. If you are a legitimate pro-survivor, one of them will tell you what it is.
