Re: Edit Summaries

You mention in your summaries that you're trying to fix some broken boxes. What exactly is it you're looking to do? I'll see what I can wrangle for you. Strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others 14:42, 29 May 2010 (BST)

I think he's talking about the info boxes on the right side of the PK template. I'd edit it myself, but I'm loathe to edit user pages without explicit permission. Aichon 21:29, 29 May 2010 (BST)
If that's the case, JN, then removing the double brackets around the links (external links only like [like this], and not [[like this]]), and using <span class="stealthexternallink">[http://www.address.ie link]</span> around the links, will tidy it right up. I haven't logged in for a few days - messy connection - but thank you kindly, both. Hopelessly newbie mistakes. I'm using the PK template, as you mention, and can't seem to fathom the correct combination of square brackets - 0,1, and 2 result in a similar mess, and the PK template doesn't seem to be working with the span class command. I might try pulling it down and starting from scratch with the non-template code - it'd be a good exercise. This is my first wiki, after all. And Aichon, please feel free.--JN 20:22, 2 June 2010 (BST)
If you go to the template's code and copy that, that should let you mess around with it more. Or you could steal the code from another Knight who uses the same style as the template (unfortunately you're talking to two who don't...), and copy their page's code for you to tweak. Yeah, it's an issue with the template (I may go back and tweak the template at some point, since I wrote the darn thing, and the stuff you were trying to do should be supported by it). Anyway, in the meantime, I went ahead and used my knowledge of how the template is written up to circumvent the problem. Based on the changes I made, all you need to do is modify the box2tname and box3name fields however you want with those links. If at some point you change them to use links to other pages on the wiki, you made need to remove what I did for box2link and box3link, but otherwise, just leave those as they are. Marvellous. Thanks again, both. I'll play with the non-template code at some point in the future, as you suggested, M - but this is a great fix for now, A. After all, it wouldn't do for a student of the Philosophes to be running around the city demonstrating to all his ignorance of basic coding matters, would it? Birra, whose link you so kindly fixed, will see you at BB3 in a few days. --JN 09:09, 6 June 2010 (BST)

Contest entry

A fine taste in beer you have there. Tongue :P Strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others 22:27, 13 July 2010 (BST)

Oh, God forgive me - it's the only one around... --JN 22:38, 13 July 2010 (BST)
I genuinely like it. I'm more of a Peroni man, though. But I've a crate of it out back that I'll bust out in a tick. Strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others 22:40, 13 July 2010 (BST)
Now, I've heard many strange things in my life, but never an Irishman praising Italian beer. If you can ever get hold of it, try Birra Messina - it's a bit closer to the stuff we have at home, but still refreshing on a hot July day. Cheers! *clink* --JN 22:46, 13 July 2010 (BST)
Only place I've had Messina over here is in one particular Italian restaurant, but it was quite nice. I may be an Irishman, but half of my family are Italian (emigrated from Casalattico). So I'm a bit predisposed towards a good crisp tipple. Strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others 23:18, 13 July 2010 (BST)
Now, that must be a nice place to visit! Best of luck with the contest, looking forward to reading the other entries. --JN 06:58, 14 July 2010 (BST)
