Chapter 1: FAK

“UbuDubu! Anthony Farrant!” I yelled over the sound of gunfire and growling. “Get over here! We have to leave!”

I jumped out of the window to the street below. My comm-rads followed as I led them down towards the hospital. We passed streets filled with debris and dead bodies as well as buildings in the same state. I pushed through the garbage knowing that my group could use some first-aid kits. Anthony caught up to me leaving UbuDubu barely safe from the war-zone inside our former base. Anthony and I walked side-by-side keeping our eyes open for a sneak attack. When UbuDubu finally caught up with us we were within eye-shot of the hospital. This was when a trip to a large building got dangerous.

"So CR?" Asked Anthony. "How are we going to get into the hospital?"

My name is CRS5. Well, at least that’s what I go by in these tough times. Everyone settled on calling me CR though, because it was easier to say. That’s also why I just call Anthony Farrent by his first name. In times of outbreak, nicknames save you time. Time is vital.

"Well, since you two don't know how to travel from building to building," I replied. "I think I will just go in. We'll meet up in that school, alright?"

I pointed to a school across the street. Anthony and UbuDubu slinked into the building. After about five minutes went by without any outbursts, I entered the cinema that we were all hiding behind. I clambered up the stairs and into the bathroom. Oddly enough this was the only room that had a window in it. I smashed the window with a crowbar. I measured up the distance from the window of the cinema to the hospital in my mind. I then jumped from this window to the first floor of the hospital. I noticed a few people sleeping in the corners of the room. There were four First-aid kits laying around. I picked them up silently and left the hospital through the window I entered.

The streets were silent still. I slipped over and into the school that was potentially my groups new base. I was greeted by Anthony's and UbuDubu's warm welcomes. They reached out for a first-aid kit. I gave UbuDubu two, because he was the most injured out of the three of us. We all sat in the principal’s office and patched ourselves up. I looked strait into the lamp that should have given us all light. There wasn't a portable generator in this building, which made it perfect for avoiding unwanted attention. As we all finished healing ourselves with the first-aid kits I heard a noise coming from down the hall.

"Hey Guys," I whispered. "I'm gonna go see what that noise is."

I stood up and gently opened up the door. I reached for my crowbar which was sitting on the floor. The sound I heard started getting louder. I rounded the corner and saw a staircase. My legs worked down the stairs regardless of my fear stopping me. I heard the door to the principal's office close. I jumped and when I hit the floor the sound echoed. A deathly scream came from down the hall. I ran to the very bottom of the stairs. I saw three zombies trotting toward me. I started up the stairs and twisted my ankle. I screamed in pain. I rolled down three stairs and stopped at the zombies' feet.

"Guys!" I managed to yell. "Get down here!"

I reached around for my crowbar, but saw it two steps up. I kicked one of the zombies in the chest and it lost it's balance. The other two clawed at me, and nearly ripped off my left leg. Out of nowhere came a bullet that went clear through a zombie's head. I rolled over and saw UbuDubu with his six-shooter at the top of the stairs. I climbed up slowly as Anthony pulled out his shotgun and finished off the zombies. When I got to the second step I grabbed my crowbar and rolled over to close my wound.

"I guess we should have saved you another FAK," said Anthony Farrant smiling. Anthony didn't have a very good sense of humor.

"Help me up!" I yelled as I turned and glared at Anthony.

Anthony and UbuDubu ran down the stairs and picked me up together. They carried me back to the principal's office. UbuDubu sat my legs down on a chair and cleared off the desk. They sat me down on the desk and they each sat on the floor. I stretched out my good leg and rested my head on my hands. I then stared at my two group-members.

"So," I said ending the silence. "How are we going to get a first-aid kit?"

"Well," replied UbuDubu with an un-easy look on his face. "I know that there's a church nearby."

"Great," I said happily. "Churchs usually have FAKs."

"There's just one problem," UbuDubu said with his head turned to the side. "It has at least twenty PKers in it."

PKers are "person killers." They often kill for a reason whether it's a grudge, or a rivalry thing. Every once in a while they kill for no reason though. Those are the people who are most dangerous to our city. People like me and my group worked hard to protect the people of Malton, but PKers made that a difficult job.

"Uh," I moaned. "Play it safe. Don't let them get you. If you feel in danger at all, leave."

"Okay," UbuDubu and Anthony Said in unison. They left the room and I heard them go down the stairs.

I felt the top of the desk looking for something. I didn’t have any particular item in my mind I just searched. All I could find were unsigned papers and school related stuff. I felt around below the desk for what I could reach. There wasn’t a weapon tapped to the bottom like I was hopping for. As I looked at the wall, I saw pictures of the former Principal’s family. They were so happy and peaceful. I felt a strong pull towards that picture. I reached out for it as far as I could, but it wasn’t far enough. I turned to the side and fell off of the desk. I screamed in pain as I hit the hard floor with my injured leg. Looking down, I noticed it was completely bent under my body. I struggled to get it back into a natural position, in hopes it wouldn’t have to come off. I opened a drawer to the desk and looked through it. I noticed some gauze that could be used for my injury. I wrapped it around one particularly bloody spot on my knee. Then I rested my head back against the desk to preserve what energy I had left.

After I rested for about twenty minutes I heard a sound. This sound was similar to the one earlier. I turned toward the door and rolled onto my stomach. I pushed myself forward with my arms. Once I made it to the door, I closed it as softly as I could so I didn’t attract the zombies. Then I turned all the way around I saw my crowbar sitting by itself, right next to the desk. I crawled over and grabbed my crowbar. Turning over I saw dents appear in the door and I heard the sound of rotten flesh hitting the metal door.

I braced myself as the last zombie smashed the entire door down. They all approached my slowly and moaned hauntingly. I pulled up my crowbar and when the first zombie got close enough, I smashed it’s skull. It fell dead half on top of me half on the floor. Three zombies attacked me at the same time. I swung my crowbar at the first zombie, but the other two were too much. They clawed at my legs and arms and the closest to me bit my shoulder as I dodged my neck out of the way. I got dizzy instantly and my eyes rolled back in my head. All of the sudden I got the worst headache I had ever had. I threw up and got a major head rush. Then I saw spots in front of my closed eyes. I slowly fell to the side away from the zombie and my head hit the floor. It took me a few seconds to realize I was dieing. I panicked and tried to flail my legs and arms, but I didn’t have enough energy. Finally I died.

When I awoke I stood up fine. I had only slight memory of what had happened before. I looked around and saw everything in very dull colors. I saw a mirror in the corner of the room and I was blood-stained. I realized that I was zombified. I heared a sound coming from the hallway. I walked toward the door and stood at the door waiting for my prey to come close.

When Anthony and UbuDubu came into view, I realized I had to be revived. I stood with a questioning look on my face as my former group came back to the room. They stopped and looked at me, then at each other. Anthony dropped the first-aid kit he was carrying. I backed away from them to show them I was actually me. They looked back at each other.

"I guess we needed more than an FAK," said UbuDubu.

"I'll say," agreed Anthony.

Chapter 2: Revive

“What are we going to do?” Asked UbuDubu nervously.

“Um,” replied Anthony. “Lets just lead him to a revive point. I think there’s a cemetery right around the corner.”

“Alright lead the way Anthony.”

Anthony left the principal’s office quickly and UbuDubu followed. I limped out of the office and came to the stairs. UbuDubu was at the bottom but Anthony was nowhere to be seen. I took one small step and fell down the stairway. When I rolled to the very bottom, I got up and continued toward the main exit. When I finally made it to the door I walked out and saw some familiar buildings. I couldn’t quite recall what they were though. Faces were easier to remember then locations.

“Okay where is the cemetery?” Asked UbuDubu.

“Uh, let’s see here,” said Anthony, pulling out his map. “Looks like the closest one is east.

Anthony started going east quickly. I tried to keep up, but Anthony moved to fast. UbuDubu stayed behind with me and we moved east at a reasonable pace. As we walked down streets UbuDubu had to stop to kill the occasional hostile zombie. Eventually we came to a building that was barricaded to heavily to enter. I was confused and tried to enter the building regardless of knowing I couldn’t.

“CR!” Yelled UbuDubu. “You can’t get in!”

I turned toward UbuDubu and stood still for a few seconds. I heard a loud pop and UbuDubu screamed in pain. He ran over next to me hiding lamely behind a trash can. We both looked around for where the gunfire came from. I then turned and started heading for the cemetery again. I had lost my focus due to my zombie’s attention span.

UbuDubu followed me realizing that I was heading for the cemetery. I looped around the building and continued east. UbuDubu got in front of me leading me in the right direction. I looked around and realized that Anthony was gone. I turned around and looked behind me. I saw a zombie following us that looked just like Anthony. UbuDubu and I turned and started toward the cemetery again. Zombified Anthony followed me as I followed UbuDubu.

Finally we reached the cemetery. Now came the hardest part, waiting. This was my first time dieing, so I was unaware how long I would have to wait. I slowly fell over and laid there in preparation for the revive needle. Anthony fell down next to me. I heard UbuDubu leave the cemetery looking for shelter. I turned my head looking to see if there were any people coming. I was never good at waiting, even as a human. I finally saw a human come and he stabbed Anthony with a needle. Then he stabbed me.

I awoke to a moldy smell. The smell I always hatted before I came to Malton. I slowly stood up and brushed myself off. I looked around and noticed a building that looked suitable for a temporary safe-house. I took my first step and my knees locked up. I looked down and saw my leg was still torn up. No-one had used a first-aid kit on me yet. I forced myself to stumble over to the building. I fought through the barricades and sat down right inside the building.

“CR!” Yelled Anthony. I turned to greet him.

“Hey Anthony,” I replied softly. “Gimme an FAK.”

Anthony passed me a first-aid kit. “How are you feelin’”

“I’m fine,” I said healing myself. “How did you get killed?”

“Well, I was pretty far ahead of you guys and I saw a guy kill a zombie from a window. I waved at the guy and he shot me. I ran over to the sidewalk and entered the building he was in. He noticed me and chased me out. Then he shot me again.”

“I think we saw that guy. He shot UbuDubu.”

I stood up and searched the building I now recognized was a church. I couldn’t find anything helpful and I didn’t have any weapons after the fight in the principal’s office so I continued searching. I came to a wooden cross and holy water. I picked them up and shook my head. I turned to the other two in the room.

“How many religious people do you think died by trying to kill the zombies with wooden crosses and holy water?” I asked frowning.

“Probably about half of them,” replied UbuDubu.

I threw the holy water at the floor. It shattered and the water splashed everywhere. I paced around looking for a weapon again. I walked down the pews looking down each aisle. When I finally reached the end of the church, I decided to give up. I turned around and faced my comrades. They were searching for first-aid supplies. You can never have to many first-aid kits. I walked back down the rows of pews to my spot in the corner. Sitting down I found that the pain in my leg was gone. What is wrong with this city?

“Guys,” I said, breaking the silence. “We can’t stay here long.”

“Why not?” Anthony asked, turning to face me. “Safe-houses are hard to come by in Malton.”

“I don’t have a weapon and the barricades will be torn apart by zombies easily.”

“Well, okay. Where shall we go?” UbuDubu chimed in quickly.

“I think that a fire department would be our best bet.”

“Okay,” said Anthony, pulling out his map. “It looks like the closest one is north of our location.”

I stood up and walked over to the barricades. I jiggled them for a while and managed to get out of the church. Anthony and UbuDubu caught up and started following me north. There was oddly a lack of zombies outside as we traveled to the fire department. We stayed close to the buildings to avoid PKers. After we traveled north for about twenty minutes, we found ourselves at the entrance to a fire department. UbuDubu and Anthony noticed that the doors were left wide open.

“Great,” I said in a sarcastic voice. “Now that means there are either zombies in there, or it used to have zombies in there.”

“Yup,” said UbuDubu and Anthony in unison.

“Well,” I said. “Anthony, you go in first, then I’ll go in, then UbuDubu will go in.”

“Okay.”

Anthony poked his head in the building and looked around. He swiftly entered and signaled for my to follow. I entered and looked around. I noticed that the fire engines were gone and a lot of the building was covered in blood. The perfect example of a zombie apocalypse. We all searched around for a fire axe or some other kind of weapon. We all entered the first room we saw. I went off on my own in a corner and found a crowbar. I grabbed it and lifted it into the air to show the others.

“Guys!” I yelled. Then I heard echoing.

We all turned toward the door and saw zombies pouring into the room. I gripped my crowbar tightly and braced myself for the bunches of zombies charging at me. The crowbar felt comforting. Like it was part of me and I was part of it. The first zombie tried to claw at me, but I ducked beneath it’s hand. Then I swung my bar at the zombie’s head. I nearly ripped it’s head off, but cracking it’s skull was enough to kill it. I spun the crowbar in my hand to clean off the blood. Then I prepared for the next zombie. I swung at the next few zombies getting very lucky as I killed them all.

After the last of the zombies trickled in, they were all done. I dropped my crowbar and raised my hands above my head. I yelled again to make sure there were no zombies left in the building. After about a minute went by without a zombie coming, I picked up my crowbar. I put my crowbar in a loop that I made in my belt and picked up a dead zombie. I carried it outside of the building and dropped it in the middle of the road. I continued to clear out the dead bodies and with the other guys’ help finished quickly.

I started pushing desks and chairs in front of the door. I was barricading this fire department, so we could stay in it. Anthony helped as UbuDubu searched the upstairs for any zombies we missed. When we finished barricading the door, we went upstairs to join UbuDubu. When we got there we saw him sitting over a pile of weapons. He was smilling and he looked up at us.

"take your pick boys," said UbuDubu in a cliche military voice.

Anthony and I ran over to the weapons. There were AK-47's and M16's. I looked through carefully and found an M1 Garand. Then I searched again and found lot's of spare ammo. I picked them up and loaded up the gun. I took it up to eye level and pretended to shoot with it. then I took it back down to the hip. I looked at UbuDubu questioningly.

"Why would someone leave these weapons here?" I asked slightly shaking my head.

"I don't know," replied UbuDubu. "But I'm glad they did."

"Well," I said yawning. "I'm gonna go to bed."

"Night," the two said together.

I walked to the far corner of the room and laid down. I tossed and turned until I found a comfortable posistion. I put the safety on my M1 Garand and hugged it as a drifted to sleep.

Chapter 3: PKers

“What should we do with him boss?”

“Well let’s see. He stole three of our weapons, he’s sleeping in our base, and he’s alone. Three reasons to kill him now and ask questions later.”

I heard the sound of the two people talking as I woke up. I gripped my M1 Garand and hoped they wouldn’t just shoot me. I heard their footsteps getting closer to me. They were going to kill me with a melee weapon. I rolled over and tried to shoot them. As I tried I realized I still had the safety on. One of my enemies pulled out a fire axe and swung at me. I rolled out of the way and turned off the safety on my gun. The other person pulled out a pistol and shot me in the arm.

“Ahhh!” I screamed. “I’m gonna kill you!”

I stood up avoiding the fire axe and unloaded eight shots in the general direction of the man with a pistol. I turned to the man with a fire axe and reloaded. He swung at me again and this time nicked my face. I whipped my face off and fired. When I had unleashed another eight shots, I looked at the two men dead on the floor. I dropped my M1 Garand and looked for more spare ammo. I got two clips to replace the ones I used in my self defence.

I looked around and realized that Anthony and UbuDubu weren't here anymore. I looked down the stairs for any sign of them. There was blood splattered at the bottom of the stairs and on the wall farther down. I walked quietly down the stairs being careful not to make any sound. When I reached the bottom, I turned and saw a dead body laying close to the doorway. I inspected the body and I didn’t recognize them. I picked up the dead body and cleared it from the room.

When I entered the building again, I thought about why Anthony and UbuDubu would leave so suddenly. They seemed to kill one of the PKers, if that was the body I saw. Why wouldn’t they warn me about the PKers? We had never made any set-in-stone agreements about our group, but I thought we would stay together at least.

I searched the entire building again for UbuDubu and Anthony. Even seeing their dead bodies would be relief enough. After the third time of searching I decided they were gone. I grabbed my M1 Garand and found my crowbar upstairs by the pile of weapons. Then I noticed the two dead bodies weren't there anymore. I looked around and noticed a closet just big enough for a human... or a zombie.

I readied my Garand and opened the closet door all the way. There was nothing in it. I breathed a sigh of relief and turned around. A zombie stood less than five feet away from me and was coming closer. I pulled my weapon up to eye-level and right as I pulled the trigger, the zombie grabbed the barrel. I lost control of the gun and dropped it. I grabbed my crowbar from my belt and swung at the zombies head. I missed and the zombie grabbed my wrists. I fought hard trying to shake loose of the zombie’s grip and finally fell over pulling the living-corpse down with me.

I stood up with the zombie holding onto my ankle. I shook my leg as fast as I could and finally broke free. I set my leg down and felt a searing pain. When I looked down, I saw that I had gotten clawed by the zombie. I limped over to my crowbar I dropped and picked it up. I swung at the zombie’s head three times and finally killed it. I then carried the body out to the street and dumped it.

I decided to get moving rather than to look for the last zombie. I entered the fire department and went up to the second story. There was a window on the north side, so I walked over and jumped through the window into the next building. This building was a police department. I found a pistol with spare ammo on a table and picked it up. I put the safety on and placed it in my pocket.
