You see a stone statue of a soldier with a rifle in his hands slightly covered in moss with a gold plaque with the inscription "True heroes need not question there actions"

History

Roger Kinsman was born in 1915 in Willamsville. His father, William Kinsman, was a factory worker and his mother, Mary Kinsman, died at childbirth. Roger went to London to study medicine in 1933. He graduated in 1941 and married his childhood sweetheart Stephanie Mason. They had a son, Rodrick Kinsman, in 1942. However soon after Roger was drafted into the Royal marines and sent abroad. In OPERATION IRONCLAD on May 5th Roger was sent with his regiment to Madagascar. When he landed he and his platoon survived to the battle of Tananarive. At Tananarive Roger was a sergeant first class when his platoon met opposition from a office building which was the enemy's communications post. Roger led the charge in and was able to destroy the communications post. However half of his platoon was dead and enemies were closing in. An evac helicopter was on the way. Roger told his second in command Cpl.Alan Garcia to get the soldiers out.Garcia told him he would die and to not be a hero Then reportedly Roger said "True heroes need not question their actions" Garcia got the soldiers out but Sgt.Kinsman died of multiple bullet wounds at the age of 27. He was awarded an honorary knighthood by the king and the victoria cross for saving 20 men and taking down a major target and perhaps affecting the outcome of The battle of Madasgascar. Then in 1950 the mayor of Malton commisioned a statue to be built of the hero in East Becktown.
