I'm amazed that this notebook is still blank and mostly intact after this city was overrun five years ago!  I'm probably going to have a hard time finding pens to keep writing with, but starting now, let this be a record of my journey through Malton, and a primary source history for future historians documenting the Malton Incident and the 2010 Military Intervention.

I'm right now in the Margaret General Hospital.  Unlike what seems to be every other hospital inside Malton, this one isn't named after some Catholic saint.  I was probably lucky to get out of Grigg Heights when I did, seeing as to how scuttlebutt said that a horde of 200 or so zeds was right at this moment pushing westward towards the hospital I was staying at, having cleared out the northwestern part of the city and begun to push southward, into mostly human controlled territories.  As it is, it seems this place won't be safe for very long, given how close it is to the front of the zombie hordes, and I suspect that the Cinema two blocks to the east might be filled with zombies.  I didn't dare freerun into it, even though it was lit, not when I was likely to break my neck trying to abseil down into that ruin.  In any case, I reckon I ought to be moving on pretty soon.  I'm also out of first-aid kits, though I'm not sure I want to stay here long enough to look for them.

This user is a Doctor and is probably off healing someone.

I operate two in-game characters, my (inactive) currently zombie Zmflavius, and my (active) doctor Zmflavian.

Zmflavian entered the city as a scientist attache, as part of Operation Form, (yet) another military attempt to retake Malton.

The borders were opened at the northwestern gate and though nobody was allowed out, for fear that they intended to smuggle zombies out, the military crossed the River Kevan and attempted to fight their way across the city to Greater Ridleybank, in order to attempt to "pacify" one of the zombie heartlands, and also to investigate the Blackmore Building, where the outbreak had reported started. In a departure from the traditional method of airdropping troops into the city, the military had this time, decided to open one of the gates in the quarantine wall, as it would have been easier to move two regiments of soldiers into the city that way. However, in a pitched fight in southeastern Ketchelbank, the military was eventually overwhelmed and forced to pull back, beating and shooting survivors in their way until the majority of the surviving soldiers had left through the gate in which they had entered. A large number of soldiers were left behind in the city, along with quite a few civilian attaches, mostly scientists consisting of doctors and some lab assistants from the Necrotech Corp.

Having left the city, the military was now forced to contend with an equally violent press, demanding to know why the military had failed to account for freelance survivor groups, which had blown up several tanks blocking the retreat of the military's units in western Ridleybank, and how the military had expected to take the Moggride Place Police Department and the Blackmore Building with only platoon-sized units, and how on earth they had expected to withdraw their troops with only a handful of trucks.

Zmflavian, fortunately, had not been one of the doctors which had accompanied the platoons sent into Ridleybank proper.

Being in the supporting line which mostly was in Yagoton, Brooke Hills, Richmond Hills, and East Becktown, he had managed to avoid being caught in the Ketchelbank/Ridleybank pocket but was at the back of the retreat, meaning that when the last military trucks left the city, he was still patiently waiting for the next evacuation truck, and down to his last two first aid kits, since his pistol had been dropped by accident while attempting to flee back to the hospital.

Worst of all, the dead were coming...
