Category talk:WikiRantings
It'd be a good idea to use this category to set forth any personal views one has on various wiki-related topics. Partly because of the way the wiki's structures are set up, people's views about this wiki and its approaches to things really only get expressed in quite emotionally-charged situations, and it'd be useful to be able to say what you think in a more peaceful, less argumentative environment. For one thing, it's easier to get people on the same wavelength as you if you can talk to them before they've expressed an opinion, or better yet, before they've even made up their minds. And even if they don't agree with you, they can at least see where you are coming from, and so make better compromises. Also, if you spend the time to write an entire article about something, hopefully you can include more nuance and depth in your opinions than you would in, say, a reply to somebody, and that means more effective communication. It also means that other people will be more willing to accept that what you say is what you genuinely think, and not just what happens to be convenient for you in the heat of the moment.
Of course, WikiRantings don't have to be rants, and it's often going to be better if they have a more balanced position instead. --Toejam 20:39, 17 September 2007 (BST)
