It has been four long years. With the barrier between life and death so permeable, and the notion of victory so transient, much of Malton's populace has begun to wonder. Their one abiding question is simple: why? As factions gain power or splinter violently, as infections spread or bones knit, as sieges drag or storms of bullets cut swathes through the hordes, why? There is no end in sight - neither to the quarantine, nor the phenomenon causing it. The wall will not come down. The answer will not come. The dead will not stay dead, and the living will not stay living for long. So what point remains? What change is effected, what progress made? Retaking what belongs to the dead, actively striking out into the hordes, or simply maintaining a safehouse, become wearisome, grating - even futile. All will be for nothing. So the question remains. Why?
