They were close. They were real close.
I could hear them as they walked across the frozen, remnants of the Rodgers Building. They moved slowly and methodically, scanning the broken, twisted steel frame for any signs of survivors. It wouldn't be long now. No, it wouldn't be long at all.
Zabrah hgrghrggarg graaghzz
Occasionally, one would stop, I would hear a series of clicks, and then a long, screeching moan as they destroyed another one. I wanted to do something; I wanted to help. But we were too few in number, and I was too weak and exhausted from a lack of food. All I could do was watch.
Grazghazg zabrah hgrghrg grzzahrah
Most were burned. The unlucky ones were pulled from the bombed rubble, stabbed with a long needle, and left to slowly rot. I watched as the poison traveled through their veins, slowly twisting their bodies from something beautiful into something grotesque and terrible. One by one, I watched as my former neighbors and comrades joined the humans to hunt the rest of us.
