Malton Radio Defense Network/Units

From The Urban Dead Wiki

There are two basic unit types in the Malton Radio Defense Network, each serving a different, and related, purpose. Strategic placement of these is intended to ensure that tactical information is communicated effectively and efficiently, aiding the people of Malton. Additionally, there is a Command Unit responsible for meta-level maintenance of the group, and the possibility of Auxiliary Units, as events warrant.

Satellite Unit

The makeup of a Satellite Unit is as follows:

One Satellite Broadcast Operator.
One Supply-Maintenance Officer.
One Defense-Maintenance Officer.
Any assigned Information Technicians.

The duties of the aforementioned positions is discussed in detail on the MRDN Positions page. Several protocols are, however, unit-specific, and are described below.

  1. The SBO is expected to sleep in their broadcast station.
  2. ITs are expected to sleep in their broadcast station in order to receive orders from the SBO.
  3. SMOs and DMOs are not to share a building with their SBO, as it is their duty to stay alive in the event of their SBO's death and rebuild the station accordingly.
  4. Broadcast stations are to be set up in railway stations, apartment buildings, and other buildings of little interest so as to lessen the chance of attracting undead attention.

Relay Unit

The makeup of a Relay Unit is as follows:

One Relay Broadcast Operator.
One Supply-Maintenance Officer.
Two Defense-Maintenance Officers.

The duties of the aforementioned positions is discussed in detail on the MRDN Positions page. RBUs are not assigned ITs. RBUs follow similar protocols to SBUs, as described below.

  1. The RBO is expected to sleep in their broadcast station.
  2. SMOs and DMOs are not to share a building with their RBO, as it is their duty to stay alive in the even of their SBO's death and rebuild the station accordingly.
  3. Broadcast stations are to be set up in railway stations, apartment buildings, and other buildings of little interest so as to lessen the chance of attracting undead attention.
  4. Broadcast stations are to be established in the safest of suburbs. Radio signals can be heard city-wide, so there is no need to endanger this critical link in the chain of communication.

Relay Broadcast Operators are superior in rank to the Satellite Broadcast Operators beneath them, and have some authority in SBU decision-making.

Command Unit

The Command Unit is a meta-level unit dealing with the infrastructure of the MRDN. It is composed of 5 selected individuals, among whom all decisions are made based upon majority vote. The Command Unit may be made up of individuals of any rank, all of whom are also part of either Satellite or Relay Broadcast Units. Command Unit authority does not extend into the realm of individual units, but deals with the Network as a whole. Set duties include:

  • Maintaining the duty roster and assigning new positions.
  • Establishing/updating all codes, ciphers, and communication protocols employed by the Malton Radio Defense Network.
  • Handling of relations with fellow human groups.

The nature of the Command Unit, however, ensures that new responsibilities arise as events unfold.

Auxiliary Units

Auxiliary Units will be formed at the discretion of the Command Unit. These may include, but are not limited to the following.

  • A roving IT strike intelligence/recruiting force.
  • Human group envoys for sympathetic survivors.
  • Radio intelligence/frequency monitoring units.
  • Strike Broadcast Station rehabilitation teams.

The specifics of these units will be detailed upon their creation.
