Talk:Institute of Independent Studies
Might want to change that to "IndependEnt".--Quadalpha 02:26, 14 May 2006 (BST)
ISS or IIS?
You call it the Institute of Independant Studies, but you use the abbreviation ISS. Which is correct? Also, the correct spelling would be Independent. --Nfearnley 21:02, 23 June 2007 (BST)
Flare Tests
An easy way to use only a few flares but get lots of information would be to use more than one observer. Have one person stand 5 blocks away, have another person stand 10 blocks away, then have another person stand 15 blocks away. It allows you to get more information out of each test. --Nfearnley 21:04, 23 June 2007 (BST)
Various observations
Could be useful to collect here. I wonder, for example, how the distance is calculated if you're not in a straight line from the flare. For example, I just saw one flare:
A flare was fired 14 blocks to the east and 5 blocks to the south. (58 minutes ago)
If the distance is calculated by the Pythagorean theorem, that would correspond to a distance of 14.9 blocks. Question is, has anyone ever seen a flare at a distance of 14 blocks in one direction, and 6 blocks in the other? (total: 15.2 blocks)... That is, is one considered to be in-range if one is within a a circle of radius 15 blocks, or if one is in-range if the flare is within a 31-block square (distance between center and border: 15 blocks)? - But Pythagoras doesn't work using the UD blocks. 14 blocks diagonally is still 14 blocks on the flat. It's be better to say that a square 14 blocks N,S,E and W from you is where your flare could be seen. --Preasure 10:44, 7 July 2007 (BST)
- So 14 blocks east is as far away as 14 east + 7 north (=7 northeast + 7 east), also when calculating who are in range to see the flares? Ok, well, I didn't think of that... :) Bananaz 18:45, 7 July 2007 (BST)
